What Xiaomi announced in October 2023
A report published October 25, 2023, said Xiaomi had teased a product called the Xiaomi Wrist ECG Blood Pressure Recorder and expected to unveil it the following day. The event was also expected to feature the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro, HyperOS, and Xiaomi Watch S3. The product name and event timing come from that pre-launch report; they do not by themselves confirm a completed launch or final retail product. Gizmochina’s October 2023 report used “smartwatch” in its headline, but the described device is more specifically a wrist-worn ECG and blood-pressure recorder.
How the reported blood-pressure measurement worked
The report described an oscillometric method for measuring blood pressure and pulse, with an airbag and pressure functions in the strap. Oscillometric monitors detect pressure oscillations as an inflatable cuff or similar structure changes pressure. That description suggests a wearable with an inflatable measurement component, rather than a watch estimating blood pressure from optical sensors alone.
The report also said the device could collect wrist ECG data, display systolic and diastolic readings, show color-coded risk levels, and take measurements automatically. “Automatic” is not specific enough to establish whether readings were scheduled, repeated within a session, or taken in the background. The report did not provide a measurement sequence, accuracy range, calibration instructions, supported wrist sizes, or evidence that the device offered continuous monitoring.

What its reported Class II status means
The October 2023 coverage associated the recorder with China’s Class II medical-device certification. That is a claim about the Chinese regulatory context; it does not mean the product was FDA-authorized, cleared for sale in the United States, approved in Europe, or authorized worldwide. Regulatory classification or registration is distinct from published measurement accuracy, and authorization in one jurisdiction does not automatically confer market access in another.
Chinese regulator listings show wrist ECG and blood-pressure recorders can be categorized as Class II devices. For example, the Guangdong Medical Products Administration listing concerns a Huawei device, not Xiaomi’s. It provides context for the device category but does not verify Xiaomi’s registration details. The available coverage does not give a registration number, full approval document, or independent validation study for Xiaomi’s specific recorder.

What was reported about the package and manufacturer
The report attributed the following package information to Beijing Municipal Drug Administration records:
- Watch and strap
- Airbag
- Charging base
- Mobile-app software
These are reported package contents, not independently confirmed contents of a final retail box. The same coverage named Longqi Electronics (Huizhou) Co., Ltd. as the manufacturer. It does not establish the precise legal or commercial roles of Longqi and Xiaomi, so the manufacturer attribution should not be taken to mean Longqi designed the entire product or Xiaomi manufactured it directly.

What the announcement did not establish about accuracy or medical use
The reported features make the device noteworthy as a proposed wearable with an inflatable blood-pressure measurement system, but the available coverage supplies no accuracy figures, error range, or comparison with a validated upper-arm monitor. It also does not specify how the strap should be fitted or positioned, whether calibration was required, or whether the readings were intended to guide clinical decisions. A certification claim alone cannot answer those performance questions.
Wrist readings can be sensitive to positioning and movement. Until product-specific instructions and validation are available, do not assume this device would perform like a validated upper-arm monitor or provide dependable passive readings throughout the day. For consequential home readings, follow clinician guidance and use a validated monitor with the correct cuff fit; discuss unexpected readings with a healthcare professional. A home monitor can support tracking but does not diagnose hypertension by itself. Do not wait for a wearable reading if someone has chest pain, severe shortness of breath, signs of stroke, or another emergency.

The report said the intended users were adults, including people monitoring hypertension and older users. It did not document ECG lead configuration, arrhythmia or AFib detection, or other health features such as oxygen, sleep, temperature, or glucose tracking. It also did not establish caregiver access, data export, app compatibility, cloud-storage practices, or the device’s full contraindications.

The date supported by the pre-launch report is an expected unveiling on October 26, 2023. The available evidence does not confirm that the event proceeded as described, establish a China sales date or retail channel, or verify a final product name or price. It also does not establish global or U.S. availability, FDA authorization, or European availability. A planned announcement and reported Chinese regulatory status are not evidence that consumers in another country could buy or use the device.
