The Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Landeron pairs a vintage-style, two-register chronograph with restored Landeron 248 movements. Its two dial references differ in color and scale, while published accounts disagree on key movement details and even case diameter. The prices found for the watch date to 2020; they are not current quotes.
What makes the Historiador Landeron distinctive?
Cuervo y Sobrinos presented the Historiador Landeron as a modern interpretation of a historical bi-compax chronograph. The design has two registers arranged opposite one another: small seconds and a 45-minute chronograph counter. Period-styled dial details and a sapphire exhibition back put the restored vintage movement and its appearance at the center of the proposition.
The model also draws on the brand’s Havana history. On its official Historiador collection page, Cuervo y Sobrinos says: “Cuervo y Sobrinos wanted to recognise Dr Leal’s contribution to Havana’s architectural renaissance by naming its classical collection of watches, Historiador (Historian).” The statement refers to Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, Havana’s official historian, whose work contributed to the restoration of the brand’s Havana boutique. White or black dial: what changes?

Both versions were reported as limited to 100 pieces per dial by Monochrome in its 10 June 2020 review. That figure does not establish that either variant is easier to find today. For a visual comparison, consider which dial gives you the contrast and scale you prefer, then assess the individual watch’s condition and provenance. Case dimensions and specifications: published figures differ
Reviews do not agree on the case diameter. Monochrome gives 40 mm, while Escapement calls its reviewed example 41 mm; both report a height of 12.5 mm. These are publication-specific figures, not a resolved specification. Confirm the dimensions of the exact watch you are considering, particularly if case size is decisive for fit. Water resistance is reported as 50 m. Treat that as the model’s published specification, not assurance that a pre-owned or previously serviced example remains water-resistant. Its actual condition and the status of its seals need to be established for the individual watch. Monochrome’s review.

The Landeron movement—and a material specification conflict
The Landeron 248 is central to the watch’s appeal: the reviews describe restored vintage movements, and the brand-affiliated account says the 1960s movements retain their original patina and look. But the available sources disagree on how the movement is configured and described. The official manual calls CYS 4008 automatic; both reviews describe a hand-wound Landeron 248. Do not treat either winding description as settled without checking the specific watch with Cuervo y Sobrinos.

Because these accounts conflict on winding, jewel count and reserve, ask the manufacturer to confirm the configuration for the reference and individual watch. Using the chronograph
The manual says the upper pusher starts the chronograph. It also says the lower pusher stops and resets it, and that reset is possible only after the chronograph has been stopped using the upper pusher. The listed functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, a tachymeter, central chronograph seconds and a 45-minute counter. The manual’s inclusion of a tachymeter sits awkwardly beside reports of a telemeter scale on the black-dial version, another reason to confirm the details of the particular watch rather than assume every published description applies identically. - Reference and dial: match the watch to 3146.1W (white) or 3146.1N (black), and confirm the scale and details on the actual dial.
- Movement configuration: ask Cuervo y Sobrinos or a qualified watchmaker to identify the movement and confirm its winding type and specification; published accounts conflict.
- Condition and provenance: establish the watch’s service history, completeness and seller details. Vintage movement condition cannot be inferred from the model description alone.
- Water resistance: do not assume the reported 50 m specification applies to an aged example. Ask for its present condition to be assessed.
