What it does depends on the watch’s model and module: an analog-digital watch may use its hands for the time and an LCD for other information, while a symbol may report a status or measurement. The module number and matching Casio guide are the reliable way to identify a particular feature.
What “dial feature” can mean on a Casio watch
The phrase does not name one specific Casio function. It may describe the main analog hands, an LCD display, a smaller dial, or a symbol that appears on the face. On Casio’s AQ240 series, for example, analog hands and a digital display share the face. That arrangement is one example, not a description of every Casio watch.

Some Casio smartwatch faces can also be customized or changed to show different information. Because layouts and functions vary, a small dial or icon cannot be identified reliably by appearance alone.
How an analog-digital Casio display works
On an analog-digital watch, the hands show time while the LCD can present additional information. Depending on the module, the LCD may cycle through several readouts, and the hands may be movable to uncover it.
#1 Best Overall
- RETRO 1980s-INSPIRED ANALOG-DIGITAL DESIGN The Casio AQ-800E-7A reimagines the iconic AQ-450 design from the 1980s with a modern vintage aesthetic. A separate analog dial and LCD display combine classic watch styling with convenient digital functionality, while the grid-pattern dial, simple bar indexes, and angular case create a distinctive retro look.
- SLIM, LIGHTWEIGHT CASE WITH STAINLESS STEEL BAND Measuring 40.7 × 32.1 × 8.7 mm (L × W × H) and weighing 52 grams, the AQ-800E-7A has a slim profile designed for comfortable everyday wear. The case features a resin/chrome-plated construction and resin glass, while the stainless steel band with adjustable clasp fits approximately 150–205 mm wrists.
- DUAL TIME & 1/100-SECOND STOPWATCH Keep track of another time zone with the Dual Time function, while the 1/100-second stopwatch measures elapsed time with a capacity of up to 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds. These practical functions add versatility without taking away from the watch's clean vintage appearance.
- DAILY ALARM, HOURLY TIME SIGNAL & EVERYDAY CONVENIENCE Stay on schedule with a daily alarm and hourly time signal. The watch also features an auto-calendar, 12/24-hour format, and separate analog and digital time displays showing hour, minute, second, PM, month, date, and day.
- WATER RESISTANT & POWERED BY SR920W BATTERY Designed for everyday wear, the AQ-800E-7A features water resistance for routine situations such as rain and hand washing. A SR920W battery provides approximately 3 years of battery life, while quartz accuracy is approximately ±30 seconds per month.
Digital information can cycle on the LCD
In module 5759, a designated button cycles the digital display contents. The same guide documents a feature that shifts the hands aside to make the LCD easier to read. The controls are specific to that module; do not assume another Casio uses the same buttons or sequence. Casio module 5759 operation guide
Module 5628 cycles its display among the day of the week, month and day, hour and minutes, and seconds. After changing the digital time and date, its guide says to adjust the analog hands to match. Casio module 5628 operation guide

Hands may shift to reveal the display
For module 5759, Casio documents a hand-shift function that temporarily moves the hands away from the LCD. The hands can be returned, and if left shifted they resume normal timekeeping automatically after about an hour. This behavior is documented for module 5759, not as a universal Casio feature. Do the hands and digital time stay synchronized?
That depends on the module. Module 5628’s guide directs the wearer to adjust the analog hands after changing the digital time and date. Module 2358, by contrast, explicitly treats its digital and analog timekeeping as separate, requiring each to be set separately. These examples show why a general instruction for “Casio watches” may not fit a particular watch. Module 5628 guide · Module 2358 guide

- WORLD TIME function includes 31 unique times zones, 48 cities, and features a daylight saving on/off & Home City / World Time City Swapping

What do the small indicators mean?
Indicators can show states such as PM, daylight saving time, an active alarm, or an operation in progress. Their meanings are model-specific. For example, module 5759’s guide identifies a PM indicator and a flashing indicator associated with shifted hands; the appearance of a similar symbol on another watch is not enough to establish that it means the same thing. Check the guide for your module before changing a setting or interpreting an icon. Casio module 5759 operation guide
When the dial shows a measurement
Some Casio displays report sensor-based measurements rather than ordinary time or status information. Module 3582 calculates relative altitude from barometric pressure. Casio recommends calibrating it against local elevation information and advises carrying another compass to confirm readings during serious trekking or mountaineering. Those cautions apply to the documented measurement functions; they should not be generalized to every watch dial. Casio module 3582 operation guide

Solar charging through the watch face
On module 5736, a solar panel integrated into the face generates power when exposed to light. Casio warns that clothing covering the face reduces power-generation efficiency, even if the blockage is partial. This is a feature of that solar model, not a feature of all Casio dials. How to identify your watch’s dial feature
- Find the model or module number. Check the watch markings and its paperwork or packaging. A module number is essential when looking up button operations or indicator meanings.
- Open the matching Casio operation guide. Use the model or module number to locate the correct guide; do not substitute instructions for a similar-looking watch.
- Look up the specific display, symbol, or function. The guide explains what the item indicates and, where applicable, how to change the display or setting.
- Follow the guide’s adjustment instructions. In particular, check whether that model requires analog and digital time to be set together or separately.
