The Breguet Marine 5517 is rated to 10 bar (100 m). Occasional surface swimming is a reasonable inference from that specification if the watch is in good condition and its crown is fully screwed down—but Breguet’s cited materials do not explicitly endorse swimming. The rating is not a guarantee that every 5517, especially an older or unchecked one, is still watertight.
What water-resistance rating does the Marine 5517 have?
Breguet lists the Marine 5517 at 10 bar (100 m) in its current product specifications. The model’s instructions for use state that the watch is guaranteed water-resistant to 10 bar (100 m) only when its crown is in position X1, the screwed-in position.

Is it safe to swim with a Breguet Marine 5517?
For occasional surface swimming, the 10-bar rating makes the Marine 5517 generally suitable as a cautious practical inference, provided the watch is properly sealed and in confirmed good condition. This is not an explicit swimming approval: Breguet’s cited model-specific materials give the rating and crown condition but do not list swimming or other activities as approved uses.

Do not treat the “100 m” figure as a promise that a particular watch remains sealed. Water resistance can depend on the condition of that individual watch, so its age, service history, damage, and crown operation matter to the decision.

What to check before exposing it to water
- Lock the crown: The manual makes the crown’s screwed-in X1 position a condition of the 10-bar guarantee. If you have unscrewed it to wind the watch or set the date or time, return it fully to X1 before water exposure.
- Consider the watch’s condition: If its service history is uncertain, it has visible damage, or the crown will not screw down correctly, keep it out of the water until a Breguet boutique or authorized dealer has checked it.
- Take condensation seriously: Breguet says condensation indicates that the watch is no longer watertight. If you see it under the crystal, contact a Breguet boutique or authorized dealer rather than swimming with the watch.
- Arrange periodic checks when exposure is frequent: Breguet advises an annual water-resistance check by an authorized dealer for watches used for water sports or often exposed to water and moisture. See its care and maintenance guidance.
Does the rating cover diving or every Marine 5517 variant?
The cited Breguet materials establish the 10-bar rating, but do not provide activity-by-activity guidance. Do not infer that the watch is suitable for scuba diving from the rating alone.
Breguet lists Marine 5517 versions with different case and strap configurations, including rose gold, titanium, and white gold. The product pages list 10 BAR for the configurations cited, but check the exact reference and the condition of the specific watch rather than assuming every example has the same history or current sealing.
