The idea began with a watch, expanded into jewelry, and later helped shape the Happy Sport line.
What are Chopard Happy Diamonds?
Happy Diamonds is Chopard’s watch and jewelry collection built around freely moving diamonds. In the original design, the stones sit in small capsules between two sapphire crystals. Their movement catches and shifts the light as the wearer moves.

Chopard traces the idea to sunlight on water at a Black Forest waterfall. The Fondation Haute Horlogerie credits designer Ronald Kurowski with developing the concept: he sought to recreate the unpredictable effect of water droplets on a dial.
How did the original watch look?
The first Happy Diamonds watch, launched in 1976, was a cushion-shaped men’s watch with 30 moving diamonds, according to the Fondation Haute Horlogerie. The diamonds’ capsules had bevelled bases that let them spin freely between the sapphire crystals. The watch received the Golden Rose of Baden-Baden award.

That origin matters: Happy Diamonds did not begin as a women’s watch or as a pendant collection. Its core was a watchmaking idea—letting diamonds move—before the design spread into other forms.
How did Happy Diamonds become Happy Sport?
In 1985, Caroline Scheufele presented a jewelry interpretation of the concept. In 1993, Chopard introduced Happy Sport, a separate watch line that brought the moving-diamond idea together with steel. The Fondation Haute Horlogerie describes it as the first watch to pair steel and diamonds.

Happy Diamonds and Happy Sport are related, but they are not interchangeable names: Happy Diamonds is the original collection and design concept; Happy Sport is the later watch line.

Anniversary coverage published in September 2026 reports a mix of heritage pieces and new designs. Wallpaper* says Chopard brought back pieces under the Happy Diamond Heritage name: two watches, a signet ring, cufflinks, a tie pin, and a pendant. It also reports new Happy Sport watches and Happy Diamonds pendants. The renewed pendant design is rectangular, a shape introduced in 2006, with more open space around the moving diamonds.

Villa88 reports that the 2026 Happy Sport The First returns in 26mm and 33mm versions, and that the anniversary jewelry includes seven pendant designs. These are reported launch details, not a guarantee that every piece is available in every market. The reports do not establish all regional references, prices, or launch dates.
How to check current models and availability
For a current US-market snapshot, Chopard’s Happy Diamonds collection page lists Happy Diamonds Icons pendants in ethical gold with diamonds. That is a US assortment, not a complete picture of inventory elsewhere, and listings or stock can change. For a specific anniversary piece, confirm the reference, local availability, and provenance with Chopard or an authorized retailer.

Why the moving-diamond idea still defines the collection
The anniversary story is not just about a design repeated across decades. Happy Diamonds made the stone’s movement part of the watch’s visual action: the diamonds shift with a gesture rather than staying in a fixed setting. Caroline Scheufele, Chopard Co-President and Artistic Director, described the effect in Wallpaper*’s 15 September 2026 anniversary article: “A diamond is beautiful on its own, but when it is free to move, it comes alive. It dances with the light, follows every gesture, and seems to have a personality of its own.”
