The G-Shock GM-5600 is the square 5600 with a hard stainless-steel bezel cover over its resin case. Its digital functions match the basic 5600, and it is a conventional battery-powered watch. Casio’s 5600-series comparison does not list solar charging, Bluetooth/app connectivity, automatic time adjustment, or world time for it. The steel bezel changes the look and adds weight; it does not add new features.
What the bezel changes
Casio describes the GM-5600 as using a hard stainless-steel bezel cover over resin. The base model, GM-5600-1, is listed with a resin and stainless-steel case-and-bezel construction and a resin band, so the metal is an outer accent rather than the whole case. Its product page also lists an inverted display for this model (Casio GM-5600-1 product page).
Compared with the DW-5600, the case material difference is the steel bezel cover. Both are resin-cased square models with resin bands, so the GM-5600 is the closer look to a metal-accented 5600 without moving to a full-metal case.
What stays the same as the 5600 core
The GM-5600-1 keeps the functions people expect from the square 5600 line, as listed by Casio:
#1 Best Overall
- Shock resistance
- 200-meter water resistance
- Stopwatch and countdown timer
- Alarm and hourly signal
- Full auto-calendar, listed through 2099
Casio lists a CR2016 battery for this suffix, with an estimated life of approximately two years (see the battery section below). Source: Casio GM-5600-1 product page.
Size and weight against its siblings
The table uses Casio’s Middle East & Africa 5600-series comparison for dimensions, weight, and feature listings, with the product pages used to confirm the GM-5600-1 and GM-S5600-1 figures. “Not listed” means the feature does not appear in Casio’s comparison chart; it is not a statement that the watch definitely lacks it.

Against the DW-5600
The GM-5600 is 0.7 mm longer and 0.4 mm wider than the DW-5600, but 0.5 mm thinner (12.9 mm against 13.4 mm). Its listed weight is 20 g more (73 g against 53 g), about 38 percent heavier. Casio’s listing does not break down which parts account for that difference, so the bezel is the only construction change named for this comparison.
Rank #3
- Case size (L W H): 49.6 43.2 12.9 mm
- Metal-Clad Construction: Features a stainless-steel bezel with polished hairline and mirror finishes for a sophisticated textural appearance

Against the GM-S5600
The GM-S5600 is the smaller metal-covered option. It is 5.8 mm shorter, 4.8 mm narrower, and 2.0 mm thinner than the GM-5600, and it weighs 23 g less (50 g against 73 g).
Against the GMW-B5000
The GMW-B5000 has a nearly identical footprint (49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm) but is listed at 167 g, which is 94 g more than the GM-5600. It is the full-metal option in this comparison.
Rank #4
What the GM-5600 does not add
Casio’s comparison lists solar power, Bluetooth/app connectivity, automatic time adjustment, and world time for the GW-B5600 and GMW-B5000. It does not list those functions for the GM-5600 or the DW-5600. For the GM-S5600, the chart lists no solar or Bluetooth/app function and does not state automatic time adjustment. If you need solar charging or phone-based time setting, the GM-5600 is not the model to choose; the GW-B5600 covers those listed features at 53 g in a resin case.
