Before buying a pre-owned Vulcain Skindiver Nautique GMT, confirm the exact GMT variant, inspect its condition, and ask for proof that its time, date, and independently settable 24-hour hand work. Vulcain’s 200 m rating is a specification for the model—not evidence that a particular used watch is still water-resistant. If you plan to swim or dive with it, require a recent pressure test for that watch.
Confirm it is the GMT—and identify the exact variant
The Skindiver Nautique GMT is distinct from the standard Skindiver Nautique. Vulcain specifies a Soprod C125 automatic GMT movement for the GMT, with a date and an independently settable 24-hour hand. Its black GMT listing gives a 38.3 mm diameter and 12.2 mm thickness. Check Vulcain’s black GMT product page against the seller’s description and photographs.

Vulcain also lists a blue GMT variant. It has a semi-gloss dial, white Super-LumiNova markers, and an exhibition caseback; the manufacturer identifies it as a limited edition of 100 pieces. Its listed diameter, thickness, water-resistance rating, and power reserve match the black GMT listing. See the blue GMT product page and verify that a listing’s dial and caseback agree with the claimed variant.

Vulcain’s standard blue Skindiver Nautique page describes an ETA 2824 movement, 38 mm case, 38-hour power reserve, 20×16 mm dimensions, and a unidirectional bezel. Those details do not establish the GMT’s movement, bezel, or strap fit.
Compare the seller’s watch with the GMT specifications
Vulcain’s current product listings give the following specifications for the black GMT. They describe the model, not the condition or measured performance of a used example.
| Feature | Black GMT listing | What to verify on a used watch |
|---|---|---|
| Case | Vertically brushed 316L stainless steel; 38.3 mm diameter; 12.2 mm thick (Vulcain listing) | Check for deep scratches, dents, uneven refinishing, or damage around the case and lugs. |
| Bezel and crystal | Bidirectional ceramic bezel; double-domed sapphire crystal (Vulcain listing) | Look for chips, cracks, marks, and uneven or loose bezel action. |
| Caseback | Screw-down, polished 316L stainless steel (Vulcain listing) | Inspect for damage or signs of opening. The blue GMT has an exhibition caseback, so match the back to the claimed variant. |
| Dial | Matte black with white print (Vulcain listing) | Check that the dial and markings are consistent with the claimed version and show no visible damage. |
| Movement and functions | Soprod C125 automatic GMT; hours, minutes, seconds, GMT, and date (Vulcain listing) | Ask the seller to demonstrate the time, date, and 24-hour hand setting. |
| Frequency and power reserve | 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz); 42-hour power reserve (Vulcain listing) | These are published specifications, not a test result for the individual watch. |
| Water resistance | 20 ATM / 200 m (Vulcain listing) | Request a recent documented pressure test for this watch before relying on it in water. |
Ask for sharp, well-lit photographs of the dial, caseback, bezel, crown, clasp, and the bracelet or strap. Request reference markings and paperwork where available. Confirm that the watch shown in the photographs is the one being sold, rather than relying on stock images.
Test the GMT and date operation
Ask the seller to demonstrate the functions, ideally in a continuous video or during an in-person inspection. Vulcain describes the GMT hand as independently settable; its product copy says this lets the wearer track a second time zone. The key distinction is that the 24-hour hand can be set independently, not necessarily the 12-hour hand.

- Have the seller show the watch running and the seconds hand moving.
- Ask them to change the date and confirm it advances correctly. Avoid making calendar adjustments if the seller cannot explain the watch’s setting procedure.
- Ask them to set the 24-hour GMT hand independently and show that it moves as expected relative to the main time display.
- Ask whether the crown screws down securely and whether it shows damage or unusual resistance. Do not force a crown or setting control.
In a July 31, 2024 hands-on article about the TOC-Rosaspina limited variant, Fratello’s Balazs Ferenczi described a terminology debate: “According to some, this is not a ‘true’ GMT because you cannot set the 12-hour hand independently.” That comment concerns how people use the term “true GMT”; it is not a formal standard. The practical buying check is to verify the independent 24-hour-hand function specified by Vulcain. Ferenczi’s article also reports 38 mm diameter and 44.5 mm lug-to-lug for that TOC-Rosaspina edition; do not treat those edition-specific figures as official dimensions for every GMT variant. Read the Fratello hands-on article in that context.
Do not assume a used watch is still water-resistant
Vulcain lists 20 ATM / 200 m water resistance for the GMT. That is the manufacturer’s model specification, not a current test certificate for a particular pre-owned watch. Age, damage, or previous opening can affect an individual watch’s seals.
If you intend to swim or dive with it, ask for a recent, documented pressure-test result tied to the watch. If there is no suitable documentation, arrange a test with a qualified watch service provider before exposing it to water. Do not infer present water resistance from the printed rating, a seller’s assurance, or an apparently secure crown.

Ask for the original dated warranty card or guarantee, proof of purchase if available, and service invoices. Compare the reference and any serial information on the watch with the documents. Ask the seller to put known faults, previous repairs, and the items included in the sale in writing.
- Confirm exactly what is included: box, papers, bracelet links, accessories, and the fitted bracelet or strap.
- Ask when the watch was last serviced and whether supporting invoices are available.
- Check the seller’s return period and conditions, including who pays return shipping and whether inspection or testing affects eligibility.
- Get any watch-specific warranty claim in writing, then confirm its validity, transferability, and geographic coverage with Vulcain or the named provider for this particular watch.
A retailer’s general warranty policy does not prove that coverage applies to a pre-owned watch bought from that retailer or elsewhere. Uhrenschmuck24 states in its FAQ that it provides the official international manufacturer’s warranty on branded watches for at least 24 months, subject to product-specific terms and exclusions. That is the retailer’s published policy; it does not establish active or transferable coverage for a specific secondhand watch.
Compare like with like before deciding on price
Compare listings for the same GMT reference and dial/caseback variant, not just any Skindiver Nautique. Consider condition, demonstrated operation, service and pressure-test records, included accessories, seller return terms, and any confirmed watch-specific warranty. Check recent completed sales for that exact variant; the sources cited here do not establish a current completed-sale range, so a reliable fair-price figure cannot be given.
Be cautious about assumptions concerning replacement straps or bracelet fit. The 20×16 mm dimensions cited for the standard non-GMT model do not establish compatibility with the GMT. Confirm the exact fitment for the watch’s reference before buying a replacement.
