1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFirst, identify exactly which hand is affected and check the instructions for your watch’s model and caliber. A retrograde seconds indicator is not the same as a chronograph hand that resets to zero, and there is no universal reset sequence. Observe the hand through its full operating cycle; if it stops outside its normal return, repeatedly misses its starting point, or behaves abnormally, use only an adjustment stated in the correct manual or arrange qualified service.
Identify the hand and watch before using the controls
Note the watch’s brand, model and caliber, then establish what the affected hand does. It may be a running retrograde seconds indicator, a stopwatch or chronograph hand, or an ordinary seconds hand. Their mechanisms and controls differ, so a reset procedure for one type may be wrong for another.

- Running retrograde seconds: moves along a limited scale and returns to its starting point at the end of its cycle.
- Chronograph or stopwatch hand: indicates elapsed time and may be designed to return to zero when stopped and reset.
- Ordinary seconds hand: typically travels around the dial rather than returning across a short scale.
Find the manual for the exact model and caliber. If you cannot identify the watch or locate the right instructions, ask the manufacturer or an authorized retailer before operating unfamiliar pushers or changing crown positions.

A retrograde hand pauses at the end of its scale before returning; that endpoint can look like a fault if you expect continuous motion around the dial. Watch it for the complete cycle described in the manual. The H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Retrograde Seconds, for example, returns every 30 seconds. That timing is specific to this model, not a general interval for retrograde watches. Its October 2024 operating instructions identify the movement as HMC 250 with an Agenhor-designed module. If the hand completes the expected cycle and returns normally, its endpoint pause is part of the display’s operation. If it remains stopped beyond the model’s stated cycle, returns inconsistently or interferes with another hand, treat that as a possible problem rather than assuming it is a normal feature.
Use an adjustment only when the exact manual specifies it
For a Seiko 7T82 stopwatch hand
The Seiko 7T82 manual includes a “STOPWATCH HAND POSITION ADJUSTMENT” procedure for returning its stopwatch hands to zero. It also gives a built-in IC reset procedure for after battery replacement or an abnormal display; afterward, the owner must set the time and adjust the stopwatch-hand positions. These instructions apply to the 7T82 movement, not to retrograde seconds indicators generally. Follow the manual’s sequence and control descriptions exactly: Seiko 7T82 manual.

For other retrograde chronographs
Use the instructions for the specific watch, including the stated order for stopping, resetting and operating its pushers. Hublot’s retrograde chronograph manual describes controls for its own model and allows a reset-to-zero offset of no more than one second between its two hands. That model-specific allowance is not a tolerance for other watches. Hublot directs service and repairs through an approved retailer or after-sales center: Hublot Chronograph Retrograde user manual.
Do not try the Seiko procedure on another watch, or repeatedly press controls in an attempt to discover a reset sequence. If the manual does not provide an owner adjustment for the affected hand, stop there and contact the maker or a watchmaker familiar with the movement.

Know when to stop troubleshooting and seek service
Stop operating the complication and seek manufacturer-authorized service or a qualified watchmaker experienced with the movement if the correct owner procedure fails, the hand repeatedly misses its return point, it appears loose or catches another hand, or the watch has been exposed to an impact or moisture. Seiko’s 7T82 troubleshooting lists strong magnetism, drops, hard impacts and vibration among possible causes of related stoppage, timekeeping or stopwatch-reset issues; it recommends retailer help for other problems. Seiko 7T82 troubleshooting. For abnormal movement instructions covering Seiko 1B21, 1B22 and 1B32 watches, see Seiko’s abnormal-movement guidance.
Do not open the case or attempt to reposition the hand based on the symptom alone. The available owner instructions are model-specific and do not establish a universal repair method. Opening a watch can also compromise water resistance. H. Moser & Cie. says the crown must be secured for full water resistance, recommends authorized specialist checks and advises authorized cleaning and service at least every five years; follow the care instructions for your own watch rather than applying another model’s service interval.
