Jay-Z was reported wearing a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime at the 65th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 5, 2023. Watch coverage identifies the photographed model as a Ref. 6300G. That is an editorial identification from event images, not a confirmation by Jay-Z or Patek Philippe.
Which Patek Philippe was Jay-Z wearing?
Monochrome Watches identifies the watch in the Grammy photographs as a Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime 6300G. British GQ also identifies Jay-Z with a Grandmaster Chime, while Hodinkee covered the appearance. The specific reference should therefore be described as reported by watch outlets, rather than independently authenticated. Monochrome Watches’ identification and British GQ’s coverage are based on the event appearance.

Hodinkee reports that Jay-Z changed watches during the event. The photographed Grandmaster Chime appearance should not be taken to mean he wore that watch throughout the ceremony or during the performance. Hodinkee’s Grammy watch coverage discusses the change.
What makes the Grandmaster Chime 6300 distinctive?
Patek Philippe’s 2016 technical release describes the Ref. 6300 as a manually wound watch with 20 complications. Its double-sided design has a dial on each side of a reversible case, allowing the wearer to turn the case over to view the other face. These are specifications for the documented Ref. 6300 family; they do not authenticate the watch in the Grammy photographs.

The manufacturer documents a three-gong chiming mechanism with five modes: grande sonnerie, petite sonnerie, minute repeater, alarm with time strike, and date repeater. The listed functions also include a second time zone and an instantaneous perpetual calendar.
Technical figures in Patek Philippe’s 2016 release
For Ref. 6300, the manufacturer lists 1,366 movement parts, 108 jewels, a minimum movement power reserve of 72 hours, and a 30-hour power reserve for the striking mechanism. These are manufacturer-published specifications in the 2016 Ref. 6300G technical release.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the 6300GR-001 the same watch as the reported 6300G?
No. Patek Philippe’s current product page documents the 6300GR-001, a two-tone variant, while the Grammy coverage identifies the photographed watch as a 6300G. The 6300GR-001 page specifies a 47.7 mm diameter and 16.07 mm thickness for that variant; those dimensions should not be transferred to the 6300G without separate documentation. The manufacturer’s 6300GR-001 product page describes its own reference and specifications.
