The watch was presented to Maggs by Hublot; it was not identified as Richard Branson’s watch. The feature pairs a photograph of Maggs with Branson with an interview about the Beard Season campaign.
What watch is Jimmy Niggles wearing?
Time+Tide identifies the watch as a Hublot Big Bang Red Magic Carbon. In the accompanying interview, Maggs says Hublot presented it to him after his proposal for the brand to support a 2015 London exhibition of portraits of bearded people reached Jean-Claude Biver. Hublot invited Maggs to its Nyon headquarters, where he received the watch.
The feature does not provide an exact reference number, price, technical specifications or current availability, so the model name is the limit of what can be confirmed from that account. Read the Time+Tide feature and interview.
Who is Jimmy Niggles, and what is the Million Dollar Beard?
Jimmy Niggles is the persona Scott Maggs used for his beard and campaign work. In the 2016 interview, Maggs says he started Beard Season after his friend Wes died from melanoma at 26. The beard was a way to start conversations and encourage people to get skin checks. As Maggs put it: “We’d grow beards, and every time anyone asked us about them, we’d tell them about Wes, and challenge them to get a skin check.”

The “Million Dollar Beard” name referred to a fundraising idea: Maggs said the beard might be sold for $1 million, with the money intended to support free skin-check sessions and build the campaign. That was a proposed target, not a formal valuation of the beard or a claim that the money had already been raised in the 2016 interview.
What was Richard Branson’s connection?
Maggs told Time+Tide that he met Branson in Sydney and later heard from Branson’s office that he supported Beard Season. Maggs said Branson wrote about the campaign and became an ambassador. The watch story’s Branson connection is therefore the campaign and the photograph—not ownership of the Hublot, which the feature identifies as Maggs’s.

Maggs also estimated in the 2016 interview that Branson’s Virgin post reached 30 million people. That figure is Maggs’s estimate in that account, not an independently verified audience measurement.
How did the fundraising story develop?
The 2016 interview presents the million-dollar beard sale as an idea and fundraising goal. A later profile by The PR Hub reports that the Million Dollar Beard Ball reached the charity’s million-dollar fundraising target. Keep those points in sequence: the later reported result should not be read back into what had been achieved when the Time+Tide feature appeared. The PR Hub’s later profile of Scott Maggs also connects his work with Skin Check Champions.

Why the title says “Video”
The matching Time+Tide item is an article with images and interview text. Its accessible page does not establish a distinct video asset, so it is most accurately described as a watchspotting feature rather than a confirmed video.
