Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor longer battery life, start with the display: turn off Always-on Display, lower brightness, shorten screen timeout, and limit unnecessary screen wake-ups. For privacy, separately review your phone’s location permission for Google Health and revoke connected apps you no longer use. These changes solve different problems, and the available settings depend on your Fitbit model and whether you use a Google Account.
Start with your Fitbit model and account
Fitbit menus and features vary by device family. Identify your model before following a setting path, then use Google’s device navigation guide to find the equivalent controls on your device. A setting may be absent if that model does not support it.

Also establish whether you use a Google Account for Fitbit. Google’s Fitbit privacy FAQ says Google Account users are covered by Google’s Privacy Policy and the FAQ. It states that Fitbit account access ended after May 19, 2026, and that deletion processing for data in accounts not migrated to Google was scheduled to begin July 15, 2026. Those dates have passed; do not rely on old Fitbit-account instructions. Check the current controls available for your own account in Google Health.
Which settings can improve battery life?
Google’s battery guidance lists settings and habits that can reduce power use. Its runtime figures are estimates: actual battery life varies with settings, features, use, environment, and other factors.

Turn off Always-on Display if you can tolerate a dark screen
Always-on Display keeps the clock visible and can substantially shorten runtime. Google lists up to 7 days for Charge 5 and Charge 6, but up to 3 days with Always-on Display; continuous built-in GPS is listed at up to 5 hours for those models. Its table also lists up to 3 days with Always-on Display for Inspire 3, Sense 2, Versa 2, and Versa 4, and up to 2 days for Luxe, Sense, and Versa 3. These are Google estimates, not a promise for an individual device.
If you prefer the always-visible clock, keep the feature and accept more frequent charging rather than sacrificing a display behavior you value. If your Fitbit offers screen timeout, shorten it so the screen goes dark sooner after interaction.
Dim the display and avoid unnecessary wake-ups
Lower brightness or enable auto brightness where offered. If arm movements frequently light the screen when you do not need it, switch from motion-based wake to manual wake where your model allows. A static clock face may also use less power than an animated one; Google cautions that animated faces can require more frequent charging.
Trim notifications and vibration
Disable app and phone alerts you do not need. On supported devices, Do Not Disturb and Sleep Mode can mute notifications and prevent the screen from waking; Sleep Mode may also dim the display. If your device offers a Sleep Mode schedule, set one. An unscheduled mode may not turn itself off automatically.

Choose GPS based on whether you carry your phone
On Charge 4, Charge 5, and Charge 6, Google documents phone GPS and built-in GPS options. Phone GPS uses a nearby phone’s location capability and can preserve tracker battery; it requires the phone to be with you and the relevant location permission. Built-in GPS records a route without relying on phone GPS, but uses more power. Google lists up to 5 hours of continuous built-in GPS for these Charge models, an estimate rather than guaranteed workout time. See the GPS guidance for supported options and requirements.
Reduce optional feature use, not essential health tracking by default
Consider limiting music controls or apps, on-wrist calls, contactless payments, GPS use, or SpO2 tracking if you do not need those features. Keep the functions that matter to your workouts and health routine. Turning off heart-rate tracking is not a general battery recommendation: it changes a core health feature, and Google’s listed battery tips do not advise disabling it as a standard fix.
Which privacy settings should you review?
Battery settings such as screen timeout do not control what data apps can access. Privacy controls instead govern specific permissions and sharing routes; changing them does not turn off all health and wellness data collection.

Review Google Health’s location permission
On your phone, review the location permission for the Google Health app and turn it off if you do not want location-dependent features to access location. Google says precise geolocation may include GPS, device sensors, Wi-Fi access points, and cell tower IDs when permission is granted; approximate location may also be derived from an IP address.
Rank #3
Location permission changes can affect route recording and connected GPS. If you use phone GPS for workouts, removing the app’s location permission may prevent that feature from working as intended. GPS and location settings are therefore a practical trade-off between route functionality, phone location access, and tracker battery use.
Revoke third-party app access you no longer need
Review connected apps and remove access for services you no longer use. This stops that connected-app sharing path; it does not erase all Fitbit or Google Health data. Google also describes data-sharing connections through platforms such as Health Connect and Apple Health. On Android, Health Connect sharing can be managed in Google Health or Android settings.
Use current account-specific controls for data export or deletion
Before exporting or deleting health records, confirm which account you use and follow the current in-app controls for that account. Google’s privacy FAQ describes the Google Account experience and the 2026 transition for legacy Fitbit accounts; older instructions may no longer apply.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to choose changes without losing features you value
- Need the clock visible at a glance? Keep Always-on Display and look first at brightness, timeout, animated faces, and notifications.
- Want the longest practical runtime during workouts? On a compatible Charge, use phone GPS when you are carrying your phone; use built-in GPS when independence from the phone matters more than battery life.
- Do not want route recording? Turn off location access if you do not need location-dependent features, understanding that connected GPS may stop working.
- Want less sharing with another service? Revoke that app’s connection rather than changing a display or battery setting.
- Use health features regularly? Keep the sensors and tracking functions that support your routine; reduce optional features first.
Google’s current battery table also includes Fitbit Air, with an up-to-7-day maximum based on 2025 testing on pre-production hardware and software using default settings and a median user battery-usage profile. That is a vendor testing figure, not a guarantee or an independent comparison.
