Your Fitbit history that has already synced is tied to your account, not just to the tracker. Set up the replacement with the account that holds your history and you can continue viewing that synced data. The important precaution: confirm the old Fitbit’s last sync before removing it, because Google says readings that have not synced are deleted when you remove the device.
What transfers—and what does not
When you replace a Fitbit, the new tracker does not itself carry your history over. Your account is where you view data that has synced. Add the replacement through the account associated with that history to continue using it.

Do not assume that a different or newly created account will inherit the old account’s history. The guidance here supports using the account that already holds the data; it does not establish an automatic transfer to another account.
| Situation | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Readings synced to the account | View them through the account that holds the history. |
| Readings still only on the old device | Google says these are deleted if you remove that device before syncing. |
| Replacement added using a different account | Do not expect the old account’s history to appear automatically. |
Before removing the old Fitbit, confirm its last sync
- Keep the old Fitbit paired and nearby. Open the Google Health app while the device is close to your phone.
- Check that it has synced. Google says Fitbit devices sync automatically throughout the day when nearby and when the app is opened; you can also start a manual sync. Check the device’s “last synced” time in the app. See Google’s Fitbit syncing guidance.
- Wait for a recent successful sync before removing the device. Google warns that data not yet synced is deleted when a Fitbit is removed from the account. A reset or account change should not be treated as a way to recover readings that never synced.
Set up the replacement with the account that holds your data
Use the same account that contains your Fitbit history, then add the replacement in Google Health. Google’s setup flow uses Connections, then Add device; follow the prompts to pair and sync the new Fitbit.

Replacing a device is different from moving a Fitbit account to Google
Adding a new tracker and migrating a legacy Fitbit account are separate actions. Google’s migration page says, “You’ll keep all historical data that you choose to move to your Google Account.” That statement concerns historical data selected for migration; it is not a promise that readings still unsynced on a device will be included. Google also says account migration cannot be undone once completed. See Google’s account migration instructions.

As of October 12, 2026, Google says Fitbit account support ended on May 19, 2026, and its migration help refers to beginning deletion processing for some data on July 15, 2026, for accounts not moved. These service dates concern legacy account access and migration, not ordinary replacement of a tracker. If you have not migrated, check Google’s current privacy and account notice for the options that apply to your account.

Removing an old tracker from the account is not the same as deleting the account. Google’s Fitbit privacy policy says most account information is deleted within 30 days after account deletion, while complete deletion may take up to 90 days. That separate account-deletion timeline should not be confused with switching devices or disconnecting a tracker: Fitbit Privacy Policy.
