Start with the display: turn off Always On Display (AOD), lower brightness to a comfortable level, and shorten screen timeout. If the watch still drains quickly, review wake gestures, notifications, and Wi-Fi use. Power saving can stretch a low battery, but it also limits connectivity, syncing, and other functions. Health-tracking and workout-saving options vary by model and can reduce the data or features you get.
Samsung does not publish a universal number of minutes or percentage of battery saved by each setting. The best adjustments depend on which features you are willing to give up, and menu names can vary by watch, software, phone, and region.

Start with display settings
The display is a practical first place to look. Samsung says AOD uses battery because it keeps the clock visible continuously. Switch it off if you are comfortable waking the screen with a gesture or touch, and reduce brightness only as far as you can still read it easily.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTurn off Always On Display and adjust brightness
On the watch, open Settings > Display. In the connected phone app, the path is Galaxy Wearable > Watch settings > Display. Look for Always On Display, Brightness, and, if useful, Auto brightness. Available controls vary by device or provider. Samsung’s display instructions cover Wear OS models including Watch4, Watch5, and Watch6; newer watches may present different options. See Samsung’s display-settings guide.

Shorten screen timeout and review wake gestures
A shorter screen timeout reduces how long the display stays on after you interact with it. The same Display menu may include Screen timeout, Raise wrist to wake, and Touch screen to wake. Disable a wake gesture if it often activates the display unintentionally; keep it if it is important to your normal use or accessibility. Not every model offers identical choices.
Reduce screen wake-ups from notifications
A notification can light the screen, vibrate, and exchange wireless data with the phone. In the Galaxy Wearable app, open Watch settings > Notifications > Advanced settings. If you do not need them, turn off automatic detail display or Turn on screen when notifications received. You can also disable wrist alerts for apps that do not need to reach you immediately. Labels may differ by software version. Samsung describes these notification behaviors in its battery-drain guidance.
Limit unnecessary wireless searching
Samsung notes that repeated Wi-Fi searches or difficulty connecting to a weak network can use significant battery. Turn off Wi-Fi when you do not need it, rather than disabling every connection by default.
On LTE/3G models, Samsung Australia’s guide also describes turning off mobile networks. That disconnects an LTE watch from its carrier network, so features that depend on that connection may stop working. Disabling Bluetooth disconnects the watch from the phone; apps that need a connection may also stop working. Use Samsung’s Australian battery guidance as region-specific advice—the page applies to Australian-variant devices.

Use Power saving when its trade-offs suit you
Power saving is useful when you need to extend the remaining charge and can accept reduced functionality. Samsung’s general path is Settings > Battery > Power saving; some versions also offer a Quick Panel shortcut. Depending on the model and software, it can turn off Wi-Fi, AOD, and wake gestures while limiting CPU performance, background network activity, location, syncing, brightness, and screen timeout.
Samsung Canada’s description of the mode says the home screen becomes grayscale, performance is limited, and Wi-Fi and mobile data are turned off. In that described mode, only Bluetooth-based calls, messages, and notifications remain. Check the description on your own watch before enabling it, particularly if you rely on mobile connectivity or background syncing. Samsung’s Canadian guidance and Gulf guidance explain battery-saving behavior; settings and availability can vary.
Check health-tracking options before changing them
Watch7 and Watch Ultra: Limit health features
Samsung’s Watch7 and Watch Ultra guide describes a model-specific option called Limit health features. It disables workout auto-detection, high- and low-heart-rate alerts, background heart-rate monitoring, and movement and respiration tracking during sleep. Samsung says a sleep score will not be calculated while the option is enabled. The guide also says it is on by default for the models it covers, so do not assume that every Galaxy Watch has the setting or the same default.

Manual-only heart-rate or stress tracking
Samsung Australia’s guide suggests setting Heart Rate or Stress tracking to Manual only as an option for its Australian-variant devices. This is not a universal menu or recommendation: availability depends on model and region, and manual-only tracking means you may no longer receive the continuous measurements or alerts you use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Watch Ultra: Treat Exercise power saving as a workout trade-off
Exercise power saving is exclusive to Watch Ultra in Samsung’s cited guide. Find it at Samsung Health > Exercise > Settings > Exercise power saving. When enabled, it makes GPS and heart-rate recordings less accurate, turns off Bluetooth, blocks all network connections (including calls and messages), removes the audio guide, and restricts wake behavior. Leave it off for a session where workout accuracy or connectivity matters more than battery duration. See Samsung’s Watch Ultra guidance.
If battery life remains poor
Keep software current
Samsung recommends keeping watch software current in its regional battery guidance. An update is general troubleshooting, not a guaranteed battery-life fix. Samsung Australia also says Power saving disables software updates while it is active.

Very hot or very cold conditions can shorten battery life or damage the watch, according to Samsung’s Gulf support guidance. If runtime remains unexpectedly poor, temperature is a separate factor to consider alongside settings.
Choose settings by what you need to keep
| Adjustment | What it changes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Turn off AOD; lower brightness or shorten timeout | Reduces continuous or unnecessary display use; the watch may be less convenient to check at a glance. | Most owners looking for a first adjustment. |
| Disable an unnecessary wake gesture or notification screen wake | Reduces avoidable screen activations; alerts or gesture-based convenience may be reduced. | Owners whose screen wakes more often than they want. |
| Turn off Wi-Fi or mobile network when not needed | Reduces wireless searching or network use; connected features may stop working, and an LTE watch loses its carrier connection if mobile network is off. | Owners who do not need that connection at the time. |
| Enable Power saving | Limits several functions, which can include connectivity, performance, location, syncing, and display behavior. | When extending a low battery matters more than full functionality. |
| Limit health features or set tracking to Manual only | Reduces monitoring; alerts, continuous measurements, sleep tracking, or sleep score may be unavailable, depending on the option and model. | Only when you understand which health data you will lose. |
| Enable Watch Ultra Exercise power saving | Restricts workout accuracy and connectivity, including GPS, heart-rate recording, and calls or messages. | A workout where those trade-offs are acceptable. |
The table compares effects, not measured savings: Samsung’s reviewed support guidance does not quantify the runtime gained from any individual setting. For precise labels and model coverage, consult Samsung’s display guide, Canadian battery guide, Australian guide, and the relevant Watch7 and Watch Ultra guide.
