The best next Rolex GMT-Master II bezel color would be orange and blue: a vivid, easy-to-distinguish pairing that was proposed as an untried combination in 2021. That is a design preference, not a claim about Rolex’s 2026 catalog. The question is worth revisiting because a GMT bezel is both a time-zone tool and one of the watch’s strongest visual signatures.
What the GMT-Master II bezel does
Rolex describes the GMT-Master II as having a triangle-tipped 24-hour hand and a bidirectional bezel with a two-colour, 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert. With the bezel in its neutral position, the 24-hour hand points to a reference time against the bezel’s graduations. Rotating the bezel shifts that reading, allowing the wearer to display an alternative time zone. The two colored segments distinguish the bezel’s daytime and nighttime halves. Rolex’s GMT-Master II overview explains the function and the model’s color history.

Which color pairings Rolex has introduced
Rolex’s official overview records these modern two-colour ceramic bezel introductions from 2013 through 2023:
| Introduction year | Bezel colors |
|---|---|
| 2013 | Blue and black |
| 2014 | Red and blue |
| 2018 | Brown and black |
| 2022 | Green and black |
| 2023 | Grey and black |
Names such as “Pepsi” and “Batman” are collector shorthand rather than official Rolex model names. The colors are the useful description when discussing the bezel itself; nicknames can be convenient, but they should not be mistaken for Rolex’s nomenclature.

Why orange and blue is a compelling next choice
Fratello raised orange and blue as a possible next Rolex GMT bezel pairing in an article dated August 19, 2021. At that point, the combination had not appeared on a Rolex GMT-Master II bezel, according to the article; that observation is historical, not a statement about the current lineup. The original 2021 prompt makes the case for considering the pairing.
As a design proposal, orange and blue has several strengths. The colors are far apart visually, which could make the two halves easy to tell apart at a glance. They would also look distinct beside Rolex’s recorded blue-and-black and red-and-blue combinations without abandoning the high-contrast, two-color character of the GMT bezel. Whether the result works best with a particular case metal or dial would depend on the execution; there is no measured legibility comparison in the cited sources.

A useful preference is more than a favorite pair of colors. Consider how each proposal would perform as a design, rather than treating these criteria as laboratory results:
- Day-and-night distinction: Would the two segments remain visually distinct when the watch is read quickly?
- Contrast: Do the colors separate clearly from one another and from the dial?
- Distinctiveness: Does the pairing add something different from the blue/black, red/blue, brown/black, green/black, and grey/black combinations Rolex has introduced?
- Fit with the watch: Would the colors feel balanced with the case metal and dial, rather than looking like an isolated bezel choice?
- Changing light: How might the color impression shift with lighting and viewing angle? Collector discussions mention such variation, but those comments are personal observations, not standardized tests.
What collectors’ preferences can—and cannot—tell you
Collector language can help explain why a combination appeals: forum participants discuss familiar names such as “BLRO” and how colors appear under different lighting. But the cited Rolex Forums poll is informal. It does not establish a representative measure of what Rolex buyers or watch fans broadly prefer, and it provides no statistic worth treating as a market result. The forum poll is best read as a snapshot of discussion, not a scientific ranking.
My pick
Orange and blue is the strongest next-color proposal because it would bring a clear new identity to the bezel while preserving the two-tone division that supports the GMT reading. The choice remains subjective: Rolex’s published history establishes which ceramic pairings it introduced through 2023, while the 2021 orange-and-blue suggestion is a design prompt rather than evidence of a forthcoming release.
