The CasiOak Galaxy was a hand-painted collaboration between IFL Watches and The Dial Artist, built on Casio’s G-Shock GA-2100. In a March 2021 interview, Time+Tide identified The Dial Artist as Kit Alexander, an art-and-design lecturer who customized watches by hand. The project drew attention and sold out in its reported limited run, but “the hottest G-Shock on the planet” is headline hype—not a measured ranking.
Who is The Dial Artist?
Time+Tide’s March 9, 2021 interview names The Dial Artist as Kit Alexander, an artist who was also teaching art and design. Alexander said his watch-customizing work began after he painted the dial of a Seiko he already owned. People on a Reddit watch forum asked how he had done it, then began requesting custom work.

Alexander described bespoke painting as a continuing part of his work. His own rainbow-painted watch—and the response to it—helped inspire the CasiOak project, after which IFL Watches approached him about a collaboration. A later Fratello article uses the name Chris Alexander for an artist in another IFL collaboration; that is a separate source’s wording, and the available accounts do not resolve the difference.
What is the CasiOak Galaxy?
It is a customized Casio G-Shock GA-2100, not a standard factory-color version of the watch. The Galaxy design adds hand-painted rainbow-colored markers and bezel lettering, with a dial intended to evoke a galaxy. The underlying GA-2100 supplies the recognizable watch platform; the distinctive artwork comes from the custom treatment.

#1 Best Overall
- {"bullet_point1":"clip-on"}
- The rugged watch's 45.4mm case is expertly crafted from fine resin mixed with carbon fiber, an innovative composition that is lighter and more durable than resin
- The smooth black dial features an analog-digital display and double LED light feature, for easy visibility in the dark
That distinction matters if you are looking for one: buying a standard GA-2100 does not get you the Galaxy paintwork. G-Central’s March 8, 2021 coverage also identifies the collaboration’s base as the GA-2100.
How was the Galaxy made?
In the 2021 interview, Alexander described unpacking batches of watches, disassembling them, laying out the components, and painting one color at a time. He said the finish involved three or four coats and that the work could take a couple of weeks. He characterized the process as handmade: “everything’s still done by hand.” These are his descriptions of the process, not independently timed production figures.
Rank #2
- Case size (L× W× H): 48.5 × 45.4 × 11.8 mm
- Case and bezel material: Carbon / Resin
- Construction: Shock Resistant, Carbon Core Guard structure | Band: resin band
- Weight: 51 g
- Water resistance: 200-meter water resistance
The labor-intensive approach is central to what made the Galaxy different from a stock GA-2100: the color and dial effect were applied as artwork rather than supplied as an ordinary factory configuration.
Why was it called “the hottest G-Shock on the planet”?
The phrase captures the launch’s buzz, not a verifiable global ranking. Time+Tide described the Galaxy as going viral and becoming a social-media hit, but the available coverage provides no measured market-wide statistic or comparison proving it was objectively the hottest G-Shock.

There is, however, a concrete reason the watch attracted attention: it paired the instantly recognizable GA-2100 shape with vivid, hand-painted details and a limited collaboration. Alexander told Time+Tide that an initial 50-piece trial run sold out in less than 48 hours. He later said, “200 pieces were made and put online. And yes, they are sold out.” Those are figures he gave in the 2021 interview, not a current inventory report.

The documented status is historical: Alexander said the 200-piece Galaxy run had sold out by the 2021 interview. That does not establish whether a piece is available now through resale, nor does it establish a current price or the availability of custom commissions. Check directly with a seller before treating any listing as current.
Rank #4
If you want the underlying watch rather than this custom edition, look for a standard G-Shock GA-2100 and check that the listing describes the exact model being offered. It will not include the Galaxy artwork unless the seller is explicitly offering a customized example.
