The Longines Record stands out because Longines presents the collection as automatic watches with silicon balance-springs and COSC chronometer certification. That pairing gives the line a clear technical identity, while its classic styling and range of sizes make it more than a single-spec watch. The details—including power reserve, price and fit—depend on the exact reference.
What makes the Longines Record distinctive?
Longines describes the Record collection as combining precision and elegance, and specifies silicon balance-springs and COSC chronometer certification for its automatic watches. Those are meaningful features: the balance-spring is part of the movement’s regulating system, while chronometer certification is a formal designation. They are manufacturer-reported specifications, however—not proof that every individual watch will keep a particular rate on a wearer’s wrist.
That distinction matters when assessing the collection. The Record’s case is strongest as a consistent technical proposition—automatic movements, silicon balance-springs and chronometer certification—presented in a traditional dress-watch style. No independent rate testing or statistical performance results are established here, so a precise real-world accuracy claim would go beyond the available evidence.
Record specifications vary by reference
The collection name does not imply that every Record has the same dimensions or power reserve. These two Longines listings illustrate the differences:
#1 Best Overall
- Automatic L844 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date. 24 hours hand with time zone mechanism
- Stainless steel with double safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
| Reference | Case | Power reserve | Water resistance | Configuration and local displayed price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| L2.821.4.72.6 | 40 mm; stainless steel | Up to 72 hours | 3 bar | Date, sapphire crystal and steel bracelet; CHF 2,150 displayed on Longines’ Swiss site when accessed in 2026. |
| L2.320.4.87.6 | 26 mm; stainless steel | Up to 45 hours | 3 bar | Date, sapphire crystal and steel bracelet; $2,650 displayed on Longines’ US site when accessed in 2026. |
These are manufacturer specifications and local displayed prices, not independent measurements. The prices apply to different references in different markets, so they are not a like-for-like price comparison; listings and prices may change.
How to choose a Record reference
Start with fit, not the collection name
The cited examples span 26 mm and 40 mm, a substantial difference in wrist presence. Try the case on if possible, or compare its diameter with a watch that already fits you well. The dial, bracelet or strap, and overall styling also vary by reference, so check the specific configuration rather than assuming the collection has one standard look.
Check movement details and reserve for the exact model
The two examples list reserves of up to 72 and 45 hours. If you plan to rotate watches, the reserve may affect whether a watch is still running when you return to it. Confirm the exact model’s caliber and published reserve on its product listing; do not carry one reference’s figure over to another.
Read the water-resistance rating literally
Both examples are rated at 3 bar. That is the listed rating; it should not be treated as a swimming recommendation without model-specific guidance from Longines or a qualified watch professional.

Compare local listings and availability
Longines’ Swiss and US product pages show the cited references in those markets, but they do not establish worldwide inventory or the collection’s long-term status. Check the relevant regional Longines site or an authorized retailer for current pricing and availability.

For buyers drawn to a conventional, elegant automatic watch, the Record’s appeal is the combination of a clearly stated movement specification and chronometer positioning across the collection. The silicon balance-spring and COSC certification give it a more specific technical story than styling alone, while references in different sizes offer different ways to wear that idea.

- Automatic L687 movement, hours, minutes, small seconds with 24 hours indicator at 9 o'clock. date indicated by the half moon central hand. Moon phase display at 6 o'clock. Case, hours, minutes, small seconds with 24 hours indicator at 9 o'clock. date indicated by the half moon central hand. Chronograph mechanism : central 60 seconds hand, moon phase display with 12 hours counter at 6 o'clock, 30 minutes counter with day and month display at 12 o'clock. Transparent case back with sapphire crystal
- Stainless steel with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
The sensible caveat is to judge the watch by its exact reference and keep certification separate from expectations about an individual watch’s daily rate. Longines’ specifications establish what the brand says it sells; they do not substitute for a current accuracy test or a promise of identical performance in every example.
