Its appeal is specific—period styling and a one-button chronograph—not a modern medical function or a restartable stopwatch. The available documentation supports a review of its design, mechanism, and published specifications, but not firsthand claims about wrist comfort, pusher feel, or accuracy.
What the Longines Pulsometer Chronograph is
Longines introduced the Heritage Pulsometer Chronograph in 2015 as a revival of a vintage model. The company described it as a single-push-piece chronograph with a pulsometric scale in its 3 June 2015 announcement. The reference discussed here is L2.801.4.23.2, not a new 2026 release.

The watch’s central idea is legible and historically grounded: the chronograph times a set number of pulses, and the pulsometer scale translates that interval into a heart-rate reading. It is a mechanical measuring aid, not a medical monitor or a substitute for clinical assessment.
How the pulsometer scale works
Start the chronograph as the pulse count begins, then stop it when the specified number of beats has been reached. The chronograph hand’s position against the pulsometer scale indicates the corresponding rate. A contemporary 2015 account describes taking a reading after 30 pulses; the count and scale must be used as designed for the reading to make sense (Time and Watches’ 2015 coverage).

This is a period instrument concept rather than a continuous heart-rate display. The scale gives a quick estimate from a timed count; it does not establish health status or provide medical advice.
Movement and chronograph operation
Longines’ instruction manual maps the L2.801 family to calibre L788 and lists a 54-hour power reserve. The manual also explains the single-pusher sequence: press once to start, press again to stop, and press again to reset. The control is operated through the crown (Longines instruction manual).

The key operating limitation
Once the chronograph is stopped, it cannot be restarted or continued without resetting. That makes the mechanism less flexible than a conventional chronograph with separate start/stop and reset controls. The manual describes timing events up to 30 minutes, with results readable to one-fifth of a second.
That trade-off suits a simple, sequential timing task: start, stop, read, reset. It is not the right architecture for someone who expects to pause and resume the same timing run.

Case, water resistance, and what is confirmed
A retailer lists reference L2.801.4.23.2 with a 40 mm stainless-steel case and 30 metres of water resistance (Chrono24 reference listing). These are retailer-listed details, not freshly confirmed manufacturer specifications in the available Longines manual. Verify the dimensions, water-resistance rating, and service condition for the particular watch being considered.
Because the evidence here does not include direct inspection, it cannot substantiate claims about how the case wears, the dial’s legibility at different angles, strap comfort, or the feel of the crown pusher. Those are useful points to assess in person or through a detailed, reference-specific inspection.

How it differs from Longines’ 2026 monopusher chronographs
Longines’ 2026 Master Collection Chrono Monopusher models are separate watches, not a renaming or update of the 2015 Heritage reference. The Swatch Group announcement describes two 41 mm models with pulsometer scales and manually wound calibre L799.5 (Swatch Group announcement).
| Detail | Heritage Pulsometer Chronograph L2.801.4.23.2 | 2026 Master Collection Chrono Monopusher |

| Case size | 40 mm, as listed by a retailer; verify the exact example (Chrono24) | 41 mm, as announced by Swatch Group (Swatch Group) |
| Movement | Calibre L788 family; 54-hour reserve in the Longines manual (Longines manual) | Manual-winding calibre L799.5, per the Swatch Group announcement (Swatch Group) |
| Dial and chronograph comparison | 2015 Heritage design; single-pusher sequence and limitation documented in the Longines manual | Announced with a pulsometer scale; a full side-by-side assessment is not established by the announcement |

The comparison is useful for keeping the references distinct, but it is not a complete evaluation of their finishing, proportions on wrist, or day-to-day performance.

Price, stock, and buying checks
Current retail or pre-owned pricing, inventory, and the range of available conditions for L2.801.4.23.2 are not established here. A launch-era price reported in 2015 is historical context, not a reliable guide to today’s market value.
Before buying, confirm the exact reference and inspect the individual watch rather than relying on a broad model-family description. In particular, check the chronograph’s start-stop-reset behavior, the condition and service history, and whether the seller can substantiate the listed case and water-resistance details. Water resistance on a decades-old or previously serviced watch should not be inferred from its original listing alone.
Review verdict
The L2.801.4.23.2 makes most sense for someone who values a vintage-inspired Longines chronograph and understands the deliberate constraint of its single-pusher mechanism. Its documented L788 family, 54-hour reserve, pulsometer function, and sequential chronograph operation give it a clear identity. The main practical caveat is decisive: after stopping, the timer must be reset before another run can begin. Current value and condition depend on the individual listing, so they need to be judged separately from the watch’s historical specifications.
