The WT Author Nº 1973 is a colorful automatic dive watch with a Miyota 8217 movement, a 43.5 mm steel case and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. Those figures come from WT Author’s product listing, not an independent performance test. The model launched in 2021 in five dial colors, but WT Author now says it is no longer producing timepieces, so new-watch availability is unclear.
What is the WT Author Nº 1973?
The Nº 1973 is a mechanical diver from British watch brand WT Author. The brand describes it as “Designed and assembled in-house by WT Author”; its listing says the watch itself was assembled in the UK and its Miyota movement in Japan. The model’s name refers to 1973, which the sponsored launch feature identifies as the year the British Ministry of Defence first issued soldiers the G10 NATO strap.
The launch feature, published by aBlogtoWatch on April 13, 2021, is explicitly a sponsored post. Its design commentary and descriptions of the watch’s readiness for demanding conditions are advertiser viewpoints, not independent test findings.

Fit and wrist presence
The 43.5 mm diameter, 14.45 mm height and 49.5 mm lug-to-lug length make the Blue listing’s measurements important to check against a wearer’s wrist and preferred fit. The 46 mm figure includes the crown protector, so it is a different measurement from the stated case diameter. A 22 mm lug width is common enough to make replacement straps straightforward to shop for, but it does not guarantee that every bracelet end link or aftermarket buckle will fit.
Movement, construction and what the specs establish
WT Author lists the Miyota 8217 automatic caliber with a 40-hour power reserve. The brand’s listing specifies hours, minutes and central seconds; it does not list other functions, so they should not be assumed from the movement name alone.
#1 Best Overall
- JAPANESE AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT WITH SELF-WINDING PERFORMANCE - Reliable mechanical precision.
- SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL WATCH WITH PREMIUM DURABILITY - Scratch resistance and excellent clarity.
- STAINLESS STEEL PROFESSIONAL DIVER WATCH DESIGN - Rotating bezel, luminous markers and bold styling.
- BUILT FOR ADVENTURE, TRAVEL AND DAILY STYLE - Performance and timeless diver aesthetics.
The sapphire crystal, screw-down caseback and 200 m / 20 ATM rating are substantial stated specifications for a diver-style watch. They remain manufacturer claims: the reviewed material contains no independent pressure test or comparative data for accuracy, lume duration, or long-term reliability. The word “capable” should therefore be read as a description of the published specification, not proof of performance in a particular use case.
Dial colors and design details
The launch feature described five dial colors: blue, green, black, yellow and orange, with each color limited to 100 numbered pieces at launch. Those are historical launch details, not confirmation of present stock. On the Blue listing, WT Author specifies a satin blue dial, applied tuning-fork-style markers, light-green lume and polished steel hour and minute hands. The sponsored launch feature also describes an orange minute hand and a quick-reference 24-hour subdial as series design and function details.

Strap and bracelet options
WT Author’s product page lists both a 22 mm G10 NATO strap and a 22 mm Jubilee bracelet. For a replacement or alternate look, a 22 mm G10/NATO strap is the clearly supported size to search for. Confirm the actual strap width and hardware before buying; the listed lug width alone does not establish compatibility for every buckle or bracelet end link.

Is the WT Author Nº 1973 still available?
WT Author’s current homepage says, “While we’re no longer producing timepieces, we remain grateful for your support throughout the years.” The brand’s Blue product page still displays a £495 figure, but that page display does not establish that a new watch can currently be ordered at that price. Resale availability from collectors or retailers is also unconfirmed.

Servicing an Nº 1973
WT Author says the watch can be maintained by the brand directly or by another service provider. Because the listed caliber is a Miyota automatic movement, an owner seeking independent maintenance can ask a qualified watchmaker whether they service that movement and can source any required parts. No particular service provider is established here.
