The Xemex XE 5000 is a family of automatic watches, not one fixed specification: documented versions include a 44 mm chronograph with an ETA Valjoux 7750 and a 40 mm day-date with an ETA 2836-2. The phrase “perlage polished metal face” is not confirmed as an official model name or finish, so identify a specific watch by its reference number and photographs rather than that description alone.
What does “Xemex XE 5000” identify?
XE 5000 refers to multiple configurations. Xemex catalogue material describes the line in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes and documents chronograph references 5500.03, 5501.03 and 5503.06. A separate 40 mm day-date example is reference 5100.03. These variants differ in movement, size and dial layout, so specifications for one should not be assumed to describe another.
The Xemex catalogue describes the design this way: “The crown is recessed in the convex case.” That design detail does not, by itself, identify a reference. The available model records do not verify “Stylin’” or “perlage polished metal face” as factory naming or a confirmed finish.

The table separates catalogue and model-record descriptions from details reported by an individual owner. The 5100.03 review’s statement that its day and date are “highlighted in white and is clear to read” is that reviewer’s assessment, not a general specification for all XE 5000 watches.

What movement is in a Xemex XE 5000?
It depends on the reference. The documented XE 5000 chronographs use the automatic ETA Valjoux 7750. The 40 mm day-date reference 5100.03 is reported with an ETA 2836-2 and a modified rotor. A listing that says only “XE 5000 automatic” does not establish which movement is inside; ask for the reference and movement information.
How to identify the watch in a listing
- Ask for the reference number. Compare it with the documented chronograph references 5500.03, 5501.03 and 5503.06 or the day-date reference 5100.03. Do not infer an exact reference from “perlage” or “polished metal face.”
- Request clear photographs. Check the full dial, case back and crown. The dial layout should make the distinction between chronograph counters and a day-date display apparent; the case-back image may help verify markings.
- Confirm the movement and dimensions. The documented chronographs are 44 mm and use the ETA Valjoux 7750; the reviewed 5100.03 is 40 mm and uses an ETA 2836-2. Treat a mismatch as a reason to ask for clarification, not as proof of a particular fault.
- Check strap fit and compatibility. The 2012 owner review says its day-date rubber bracelet may need cutting to shorten. This is one owner’s observation, not a universal fit rule. Confirm the bracelet or strap length and attachment for the exact reference before purchase or ordering a replacement.
What to know about water resistance and a used example
The catalogue and model descriptions give 50 m water resistance for the documented variants, but a published rating describes the model specification, not the present condition of an older individual watch. Seals can deteriorate, and the available records do not establish the condition or service history of a particular specimen.

Before exposing a used XE 5000 to water, ask an independent watchmaker to assess its condition and water resistance. A seller’s reference to the original rating is not a substitute for checking the watch itself.

The available documentation supports a varied XE 5000 family, with identifiable chronograph and day-date configurations. It does not establish that “Stylin’ Xemex XE 5000 Automatic Watch With Perlage Polished Metal Face” is an official reference name, confirm a perlage finish on a particular watch, or verify current retail availability. For a specific purchase, the reference, movement and photographs are more useful identifiers than the descriptive phrase.
