Neither tracker is the better buy for everyone. The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 makes more sense if you want the lower-cost band with the longest advertised battery life and basic tracking. The Fitbit Charge 6 makes more sense if you need built-in GPS, NFC, and Google services, and you are willing to accept a Google Account requirement and documented GPS reliability complaints. The rest of this guide explains where each claim comes from and what it means for your daily use.
Quick answer by buyer type
- Choose the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 if you mostly want step, sleep, and heart-rate tracking, you usually carry your phone when you run, and you want the simplest battery routine.
- Choose the Fitbit Charge 6 if you run or cycle without your phone, pay with Google Wallet, use Google Maps or YouTube Music controls on your wrist, or want a band that can connect to compatible gym equipment.
- Be cautious with either if you need precise distance tracking for serious training, as both the GPS situation and the battery claims need a closer look below.

GPS: built-in is not the same as dependable
GPS is the largest hardware difference between these two bands. It determines whether a run or ride is recorded accurately when your phone is at home.
Xiaomi Smart Band 9
The Smart Band 9 has no built-in GPS, so distance and route data for outdoor workouts depend on your phone being nearby and connected. For walking, gym sessions, and most daily activity this is a reasonable trade for the lower price. It is a poor match for anyone who wants to leave the phone behind on a run.

Fitbit Charge 6
The Charge 6 has built-in GPS and GLONASS, so it can record a route without your phone. The limitation is performance. TechRadar’s November 21, 2023 review reported location signal loss during runs when the band was worn tightly, and noted that fit can also affect heart-rate readings. Android Authority’s review, which tested the band for three weeks, reached a similar conclusion and said GPS performance made the tracker hard to recommend for serious distance training. These are individual reviewers’ test results, not a controlled comparison or an official product limitation. If accurate distance matters to you, wear the band with a looser fit during outdoor runs and compare its route against your phone or a dedicated GPS watch during your first few sessions.
Battery life: what the numbers measure
The battery figures are the most misleading part of the comparison, because each manufacturer measures under different conditions.
Rank #2
Xiaomi’s “up to 21 days”
Xiaomi’s figure is a typical-use maximum for the Smart Band 9, not a guaranteed result. Wareable’s October 2024 review reported roughly one week of runtime with continuous tracking enabled and one to three hours of exercise each day. That is one reviewer’s usage, and it is the more realistic expectation for a buyer who keeps the always-on tracking features switched on.
Google’s “up to 7 days”
Google’s figure for the Charge 6 is also a maximum. Google says always-on display and SpO2 use require more frequent charging, so the figure is best read as a baseline for lighter use. Android Authority reported its own battery results under its always-on-display usage, which should not be treated as Google’s advertised maximum.
Rank #3
- Stunning images, smooth touch: Immerse yourself in brilliant clarity with the large 1.72-inch AMOLED display.Vacuum filling sealing technology enables symmetrical 2.0mm ultra-thin bezels, expanding screen-to-body ratio from 66% to 73%. Enjoy incredibly smooth and seamless interaction with crisp, color-accurate images, right on your wrist.
In practice, both bands give you a battery life you can plan around, but the Smart Band 9 has the longer advertised ceiling and the Charge 6 has more features that drain the battery faster.
Health and sensor features
Both bands track heart rate with an optical sensor. The Charge 6 adds electrical sensors compatible with Google’s ECG and EDA Scan apps. Those apps are features that let you record an electrical reading or a skin-response reading for review; they do not diagnose or prevent illness, and neither band should be used to make a medical decision on its own. The Smart Band 9’s official specifications instead emphasize a standard accelerometer, gyroscope, and ambient-light sensor set. Sleep and health data quality is a common complaint in reviews of both products, so judge the features by how well they fit your routine rather than by the feature count alone.

Phone compatibility and setup
Check your phone before buying, because the published minimums differ by source and by date.
- Xiaomi Smart Band 9: the Xiaomi global page lists Android 8.0 or iOS 12.0 and above, and the band uses the Mi Fitness app.
- Fitbit Charge 6, 2023 announcement: Google said the band works with most phones on Android 9.0 or newer or iOS 15 or newer, and requires a Google Account and an internet connection.
- Fitbit Charge 6, regional specifications page (accessed October 8, 2026): Google Health app setup requires Android 11.0 or iOS 16.4, and a Google Account is required.
The 2023 launch figures and the current regional page do not agree. For the Charge 6, treat the regional page as the current requirement for your market, and confirm it in the Google store listing for your country before you buy. Some Fitbit features also need the Fitbit mobile app or a paid subscription, as Google noted at launch.

Enjoy incredibly smooth and seamless interaction with crisp, color-accurate images, right on your wrist.
Water resistance
Both bands are rated for swimming-level splashes, but neither should be described as waterproof. Xiaomi lists 5ATM for the Smart Band 9. Google says the Charge 6 is designed to comply with 5 ATM under ISO 22810:2010 when manufactured. Google also warns that the band is not waterproof, that resistance can decline with wear, damage, repair, or disassembly, and that it is intended for shallow water rather than high-velocity or high-temperature water. Those limits apply to both devices in practice: take them off for hot tubs, fast water sports, and showers with very hot water.
Smart features and ecosystem
The Charge 6 is the stronger choice if you are already invested in Google services. Google’s announcement describes Google Wallet, Google Maps, and YouTube Music controls on the band, and its specifications page lists NFC. Google also names NordicTrack, Peloton, Concept2, and Tonal as compatible exercise-equipment examples for real-time heart-rate display. Google’s comparative marketing claim that the Charge 6 has “our most accurate heart rate on a fitness tracker” is a company statement, limited in its footnote to other Fitbit fitness trackers as of fall 2023 and excluding Pixel and Fitbit smartwatches. The Smart Band 9 is more focused on core tracking and the Mi Fitness app, and its official specification page does not list NFC or payment features.
Price and value
Prices in older reviews are historical and should not be used as a current value judgment. Wareable’s October 2024 review listed the Smart Band 9 at £34.99, and reviews at the Charge 6’s launch reported a price around $159.99. Check the current price in your country before deciding, since regional pricing and availability change over time.
Which one fits you
- Pick the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 if your budget is the first constraint, you run or cycle with your phone, and you value the longest advertised battery life.
- Pick the Fitbit Charge 6 if you want GPS without your phone, NFC payments, Google service controls, or compatible connected-gym equipment, and your phone meets the current Google Health app requirements for your market.
- Look at a different device if accurate outdoor distance is your main goal, since neither band is a dependable substitute for a dedicated GPS watch in that case.
If you are still undecided, compare how often you leave your phone at home when you exercise. That habit will tell you more than any individual spec.
