The York & Front Burrard is a compact, understated automatic that its reviewer found easy to wear every day. Thor Svaboe’s Fratello hands-on (published April 8, 2022) rates it highly, and the specifications that matter for daily wear, including the 38 mm case, the no-date dial, and the 20 mm lugs, support that reading. Whether it suits you depends less on whether the watch is well made and more on whether you want a no-date field watch in this size and price band. The verdict below is the reviewer’s personal judgment, based on one watch, not a lab test or an owner survey.
What the review does and does not establish
The Fratello article is a hands-on impression of a single example. It describes how the Burrard looks and wears, and it draws a favorable conclusion. It does not measure timekeeping, test water resistance, or compare the watch side by side with competitors under controlled conditions. Where this article repeats a number, it is either the reviewer’s measurement of the watch he handled, or a manufacturer specification that the reviewer and the brand both report. The difference is noted where it matters.
The reviewer’s own closing judgment is the strongest single statement in the piece. He wrote: “This Canadian debut, the York & Front Burrard, has me searching for faults, but they are annoyingly missing.” That is an enthusiastic personal view, and it should be read as one reviewer’s opinion.
Size and wrist fit
At 38 mm wide, 44 mm lug to lug and 12 mm thick, the Burrard is a modest watch by current standards. The lug-to-lug figure matters more than the diameter for fit. A 44 mm span can sit comfortably on a wrist that would find a 42 mm or 44 mm watch with longer lugs overhanging. The 12 mm thickness is the other factor: it is not thin, so a shirt cuff will see it, but it is not so tall that it reads as a tool watch on a dress wrist. The reviewer’s view is that the proportions read as versatile, which is consistent with the case dimensions.

Wrist fit is still personal. If you have a small wrist, check the lug-to-lug measurement against a watch you already wear before buying. If your wrists are larger, the 38 mm face will look proportionate rather than large, but it will not fill the wrist the way a 40 mm or 42 mm dial would.
Dial and movement
The reviewer handled the black-dial version and notes that a white-dial option is also offered. The dial uses applied numerals and syringe hands, with BGW9 Super-LumiNova on the hour and minute hands and a red-tipped seconds hand. Those choices give the dial a classic field-watch legibility, and the lume is a practical benefit if you wear the watch to bed or in low light.

The movement is a Swiss STP 1-11 automatic, modified at York & Front’s request to remove the date wheel and complication. The stated power reserve is 44 hours. The no-date configuration is the most important styling decision in the watch. It keeps the dial clean and symmetrical, and the reviewer treats that as central to the Burrard’s appeal. The trade-off is that you lose the date window, so if you rely on it, the Burrard is the wrong choice.
The brand’s product page gives the accuracy rating as -0/+15 seconds per day, citing STP’s technical sheets. That is the manufacturer’s stated range for the movement, not a result measured on the reviewed watch. Judge the timekeeping by that stated range and by your own wear over several weeks, not by the review.

Crystal, case and water resistance
The crystal is a double-domed sapphire with an anti-reflective coating. Double-domed sapphire tends to reflect light differently from flat crystals, and the review describes the coating as keeping the dial readable in direct light. The case is 316L stainless steel according to the brand’s product page. The lugs are drilled, which the brand presents as a strap-change feature; the screw-down crown and numbered case back are the other visible details the review mentions.
The brand rates the watch at 100 m water resistance. That is a manufacturer specification. Neither the review nor this article tested it, so treat it as a rating rather than a verified depth. A 100 m rating is generally adequate for swimming and splashes, but it is not a diving rating, and the screw-down crown should be fully seated and tightened after exposure to water.

The 2022 review discussed a $499 debut price. That figure is historical. When the brand’s official product page was checked on October 8, 2026, it showed the Burrard Series 001 in stock at USD $425. The same page lists worldwide shipping, free shipping to North America, a 30-day return period, and a 24-month international warranty. Prices, shipping windows, inventory and return terms change, so confirm them on the brand’s page before you buy. The page also states that only 300 pieces were produced; that is a brand-published production figure, and present stock is the brand’s listing, not an independent count.

Strap and accessory fit
Because the lug width is 20 mm, a 20 mm watch strap is the right size category for a Burrard. The reviewer discusses swapping straps, and the drilled lugs make that practical. Before buying any strap, confirm that its spring-bar or attachment style suits the drilled lugs and that its material and buckle are what you want. No specific strap was tested for this article, so the 20 mm size is the only compatibility point to rely on.

The supplied watch roll is real leather and is useful for travel. It is an extra, not a reason to buy the watch, and the review presents it as a pleasant detail rather than a feature.
Who the Burrard suits, and who should pass
- Good fit: you want one everyday automatic that moves from a weekend to a suit without a date window, and you are comfortable with a 38 mm case and 12 mm thickness.
- Good fit: you value a clean, classic dial with lume and a sapphire crystal, and you are willing to swap straps.
- Poor fit: you rely on a date display every day.
- Poor fit: you need a watch that is tested or certified for diving, or you want a sizing verdict without trying the watch on yourself.
- Check first: buyers who prefer the white-dial version should confirm its availability on the brand’s page, since the review’s hands-on was with the black dial.
The reviewer’s own verdict is that the Burrard is a strong debut from a Canadian brand. On the specifications and the brand’s listing, that is a reasonable reading. Whether it is the right watch for your wrist and wardrobe is a question only you can settle by trying it on.
