The original Yema Granvelle CMM.20 is a slim, dress-leaning automatic with a 39 mm cushion-shaped case, small seconds and an unusual micro-rotor movement. Its appeal rests on a particular mix: architectural case lines and a highly textured dial, backed by a 70-hour power reserve. That makes it more individual than a conventional round dress watch, but the layered dial may feel busy if you prefer restrained layouts.
What sets the original Granvelle CMM.20 apart?
The Granvelle is a dressier direction for Yema, whose catalog has often leaned toward sports watches. Its cushion case takes inspiration from the flat-topped arches in the courtyard of Granvelle Palace in Besançon. Brushed and polished surfaces, a coin-edge mid-case and compact lugs give the case more visual character than a plain circular profile.
The dial is equally distinctive. A white chapter ring frames cut-out markers, while a concentric pattern draws the eye toward the small-seconds register. The original was offered with metallic black, blue or green dials. Fratello’s Daan de Groot noted that the blue could look nearly black or purple depending on the light.
How does the Granvelle CMM.20 wear?
On a 17 cm wrist, de Groot found the 39 mm diameter and 47 mm lug-to-lug span comfortable, crediting the rounded corners and compact lugs. That is one reviewer’s experience rather than a fit guarantee; wrist shape and personal preference matter, especially with a cushion case that can wear differently from a round watch of the same diameter.

- SKELETON WATCH: Automatic watches for men or self winding watch is a mechanical timepiece in which the mainspring is wound automatically from natural motion, making a battery unnecessary; if your watch has stopped, rotate crown clockwise 40 times
- EDITOR'S NOTES: Get updated classic style and function with the Relic by Fossil Damon self-winding automatic mens watch; it has a black IP stainless steel case, exhibition caseback, luminous hands, and is water-resistant for hand washing & swimming
- DIAL: This men's watch is black with a round, sleek stainless steel case, and a gunmetal gray see-through skeleton dial and gray accents
- WATCH BAND: Black Relic by Fossil watch for men with a durable stainless steel bracelet and a secure fold-over clasp closure; links can be removed for a customized fit
- CASE & MOVEMENT: This mechanical watch for men features a 42mm case, 20mm band width, scratch resistant mineral crystal, accurate automatic movement with 3-hand analog display
At 8.6 mm thick, the watch has a slim profile for an automatic. The dial’s layered chapter ring and off-center concentric motif are less universally appealing: de Groot found them potentially busy. If you want a quiet, easy-to-read dress dial, the details may distract; if you want texture and a recognizable design, they are central to the watch’s character.
What movement is in the original Granvelle CMM.20?
The CMM.20 is an automatic caliber with a bidirectional tungsten micro-rotor. Yema lists a 4 Hz frequency (28,800 vibrations per hour), 33 jewels, a 70-hour power reserve, accuracy of -3/+7 seconds per day and a thickness of 3.70 mm. It also specifies Incabloc double-cone shock protection.
Yema says Olivier Mory designed and developed the caliber in La Chaux-de-Fonds, that its regulating organs are made in Switzerland, and that Yema makes the bridges and mainplates in Morteau. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the movement’s development and production.

How the original CMM.20 differs from newer Granvelle listings
Model identity matters when comparing specifications. Yema’s currently surfaced Granvelle product page describes the later Manufacture Morteau 29 (CMM.29), even though some page wording or paths retain CMM.20 references. The later page lists a five-year warranty, but that is not evidence of the original CMM.20’s warranty or exact configuration. Check the movement designation and exact reference on the listing before buying; do not assume newer CMM.29 details apply to the original.

Is the Yema Granvelle CMM.20 worth it?
The original’s case shape, small seconds and micro-rotor movement make the strongest case for choosing it over a more conventional dress watch. Its measurements and 70-hour reserve are practical strengths, while the distinctive dial is a matter of taste rather than an automatic advantage. It is most compelling for someone who actively wants architectural casework and concentric dial detail, not simply a slim watch for formal occasions.
Fratello reported a launch-era price of €1,990 in May 2025. That is historical context, not a verified current price or statement of availability; confirm both for the exact CMM.20 reference before making a comparison or purchase.
