Verdict: Zeitwinkel is a small Swiss maker selling hand-assembled automatic watches at premium prices, with current listed examples starting at CHF 16,107 including Swiss VAT. The appeal is a distinctive catalogue and the maker’s account of careful, small-scale production; the trade-off is that key ownership questions—including independent accuracy results, repair costs and resale performance—are not established by the available evidence. This is best treated as a considered purchase, with model, delivery, taxes and service terms confirmed directly before ordering.
What is Zeitwinkel?
Zeitwinkel says it was founded in 2006 by three friends and makes its automatic watches in Saint-Imier, Switzerland. A secondary profile identifies the founders as Ivica Maksimovic, Peter Nikolaus and Albert Edelmann. The company describes itself as independent and says it produces about 100 watches annually; that figure is the maker’s stated current capacity, not an independently audited production count. Zeitwinkel’s official site sets out its own account of the brand and manufacture.
That scale helps explain the proposition: buyers are not choosing from mass-market pricing or a broad service network, but from a small catalogue positioned around Swiss manufacture, individual finishing and low-volume output. Those characteristics describe the brand’s approach; they do not by themselves prove superior timekeeping, reliability or long-term value.
What does the collection offer?
The current official collection spans several designs and sizes, from 39 mm to 42.5 mm. The selection includes central- and decentral-seconds layouts, large-date variants, and sapphire or enamel dial treatments. Exact configurations, movement references and availability differ by model, so the diameter or feature of one watch should not be assumed to apply to the entire range. The official collection overview is the place to check the current configuration.

What does the price buy?
Zeitwinkel says its movements took three years to develop and are exclusive to the brand. Its manufacture description presents a mix of CNC equipment, older machinery, hand-made components and externally made parts sourced from the region. The company says incoming external components are checked, plates and bridges are angled and decorated, and one watchmaker completes a movement through its first oscillation. It also says each watch is regulated in five positions and tested for precision over several days. These are manufacturer descriptions of process, not independent test results or a guarantee of a particular daily rate. Read the manufacturer’s account of its manufacture with that distinction in mind.

There is no single Zeitwinkel calibre shared across every reference: movement and configuration vary by model. For a buyer, the practical value case therefore rests on a combination of design, small-scale production and the specific movement and finishing in the watch being considered—not simply on the label “manufacture.” Ask the seller for the reference-specific movement details and what is included in the quoted price.
What do independent reviews say?
There is some hands-on coverage, but it should be read model by model. In December 2024, Robin Nooy reviewed a 240° NOIR prototype for Monochrome. Zeitwinkel reproduces his opinion that the watch was “a sleek and stealthy addition to Zeitwinkel’s already impressive line-up” and praises the movement’s appearance. That is a reviewer’s assessment of a prototype, quoted on the brand’s blog; it is not a verified finding about production examples or performance. Zeitwinkel’s blog lists the coverage and its attribution.

The brand’s blog also lists Monochrome coverage of the 273° Saphir Fumé (September 2024) and 188° MAKS (September 2023), Worn & Wound coverage of the 273° Saphir Fumé (January 2025), and Collective Horology hands-on coverage of the 240° NOIR (January 2025). These offer routes to outside impressions, but no independent statistical study establishes Zeitwinkel’s accuracy, reliability, owner satisfaction or resale value.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should owners know about warranty and service?
Zeitwinkel states that its factory warranty lasts 24 months from purchase—or receipt for an internet purchase—and covers defects in materials or workmanship subject to its conditions. The watch passport must be completed and serial numbers intact. Unauthorized third-party intervention is excluded and may void coverage. The company recommends professional inspection and service every three years. After warranty expiry, maintenance and repairs are chargeable; Zeitwinkel says it cannot provide a binding repair estimate before inspecting the watch. Review the service and warranty terms, and contact Zeitwinkel or an authorized service partner before shipping a watch.

Who should consider a Zeitwinkel?
- Consider one if you value an independent maker’s design language, small stated production scale and a specific dial or layout in the current range.
- Compare carefully if your decision depends on proven comparative accuracy, extensive local servicing, predictable repair pricing or resale value; the evidence available here does not establish those advantages.
- Before committing, try the exact case size if possible, verify the precise reference and movement, establish the delivered price in your country, and get written clarity on lead time and service arrangements.
