The current standard steel-bracelet model, reference 03.A384.400/21.M384, is 37 mm, runs at 36,000 VpH (5 Hz), offers approximately 50 hours of power reserve, and is rated to 5 ATM. That makes it a compelling specialist choice—not an automatic fit for every wrist, routine, or water activity.
Which A384 does this verdict cover?
This article focuses on Zenith’s current standard steel-bracelet Chronomaster Revival El Primero A384, reference 03.A384.400/21.M384. Zenith describes it as a faithful reproduction of the 1969 A384, with a tonneau-shaped case, panda dial, and steel ladder bracelet. The official product listing gives a 37 mm diameter, about 50 hours of power reserve, 36,000 VpH (5 Hz), and 5 ATM water resistance (Zenith’s standard-model listing; Zenith’s English product description).

There are other A384 Revival references, and their specifications should not be transferred to this one. The Tropical version, reference 03.A384.400/69.M384, has a warm brown dial and is a separate variant (Zenith’s A384 Revival Tropical article). The 2019 50th-anniversary edition, reference 03.A384.400/21.C815, is also distinct: its technical sheet lists 10 ATM water resistance, unlike the current standard model’s 5 ATM (Zenith’s anniversary-edition technical sheet).
What makes the A384 appealing as an only watch?
A compact chronograph with a strong point of view
The 37 mm diameter and tonneau case give the A384 a different presence from a conventional round, three-hand watch. Zenith pairs the panda dial with central hour and minute hands, small seconds, central chronograph seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, a tachymetric scale, and a date at 4:30, as detailed in its product and technical materials (Zenith’s standard-model listing; Zenith’s A384 Revival Tropical article). The chronograph is useful if you actually time things; otherwise, its subdials and scale remain a prominent part of the watch’s look.

A high-frequency El Primero movement
The standard listing specifies the El Primero automatic chronograph at 36,000 VpH (5 Hz) and approximately 50 hours of power reserve. Zenith calls the El Primero the world’s first automatic chronograph calibre; that is the manufacturer’s historical claim, rather than an independently adjudicated conclusion about competing 1969 launches (Zenith’s standard-model listing).
A distinctive bracelet, not a neutral design
The standard reference is listed with a steel ladder bracelet, a defining part of the A384’s visual character. Zenith’s 2019 anniversary-edition sheet describes that edition as available on a ladder bracelet or black alligator strap, but that does not establish strap compatibility or lug width for the current standard reference (Zenith’s anniversary-edition technical sheet). If you expect to change straps, verify fit for the exact reference before buying one.

Where does it fall short as a one-watch choice?
Its water rating calls for a realistic routine
The current standard model is listed at 5 ATM. Do not read that figure as making the watch a dedicated dive watch or proof of suitability for every water activity. The 10 ATM figure belongs to the separate 2019 anniversary reference, not the standard steel-bracelet model. If regular swimming or another specific water activity is part of your routine, confirm the manufacturer’s guidance for that use rather than relying on a different A384’s rating.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The design may be tiring if you want an unobtrusive daily watch
The panda dial, tonneau case, tachymetric scale, and ladder bracelet make this a visually distinctive chronograph. Those features are the attraction for someone who wants character; they may be a drawback if you prefer a restrained watch that disappears under a cuff or suits every setting. A diameter figure alone cannot tell you whether the case and bracelet will feel comfortable on your wrist, so try the exact model on if possible.

Mechanical ownership is part of the decision
A chronograph is worth choosing as an only watch if you like its functions and are comfortable with a mechanical watch as your regular timepiece. The listed reserve is approximately 50 hours, not a guarantee that the watch will keep running through every stretch off the wrist. Zenith’s cited materials here do not establish a service interval or service cost, so those should be confirmed directly for your circumstances.

Use these questions to decide whether it can be your one watch
- Will you enjoy the look day after day? The dial, tonneau case, and bracelet are central to the watch, not details you can ignore.
- Will you use the chronograph? If timing is useful to you, the complication has a practical role; if not, decide whether you still want its visual complexity.
- Does 5 ATM suit your real activities? Consider your routine and verify guidance for the water exposure you expect.
- Can you try the exact watch on? The 37 mm measurement does not settle comfort, wrist fit, or how the case wears.
- Are you comfortable with a mechanical chronograph as your daily watch? Consider how you will wear and care for it, and ask Zenith or an authorized retailer about ownership questions not answered by the product listing.
Price and availability depend on region
A Zenith regional listing showed €10,000 and sold-out status when checked in 2026. That snapshot does not establish the price or stock in another market or at a later date. Confirm the exact reference and local availability with Zenith or an authorized retailer before making a purchase.
