The Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 38mm most likely refers to the Chronomaster Original: a modern 38 mm chronograph inspired by the 1969 A386. It is a family, not one specific watch, so the dial, strap or bracelet, reference and price depend on the configuration. For the documented reference 03.3200.3600/69.C902, the key features are the automatic El Primero 3600, a 1/10-second chronograph and an approximately 60-hour power reserve.

What is the Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 38mm?

The name commonly points to the Chronomaster Original, Zenith’s contemporary interpretation of its 1969 A386 chronograph. The phrase alone does not identify a single catalog reference: Zenith has announced different dial and edition variants, and their straps, bracelets and other details can differ. The specifications below therefore identify the reference they apply to rather than treating every Chronomaster Original as identical.

For one documented standard reference, 03.3200.3600/69.C902, Zenith’s 2021 technical sheet lists a stainless-steel 38 mm case, sapphire case back, 5 ATM water resistance and automatic El Primero 3600 movement.

How does the 1/10-second chronograph work?

The El Primero 3600 runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz). Zenith says the chronograph’s central hand completes one full rotation in 10 seconds, allowing the elapsed time to be read in tenths of a second. This is the chronograph’s displayed timing resolution; it does not, by itself, establish the watch’s everyday timekeeping accuracy.

On reference 03.3200.3600/69.C902, Zenith specifies a 60-minute counter at six o’clock, a 60-second counter at three, small seconds at nine and a date at 4:30. These indications distinguish the chronograph’s elapsed-time displays from the watch’s ordinary time display.

How long is the power reserve?

Zenith lists an approximately 60-hour power reserve for reference 03.3200.3600/69.C902. That is the stated reserve for this reference, not a guarantee that every watch in the broader Chronomaster family has the same movement or reserve.

Is the 38 mm Chronomaster water resistant?

The cited modern Chronomaster Original references are rated to 5 ATM: the 2021 sheet for 03.3200.3600/69.C902 and Zenith’s 2026 Paris Edition announcement both give that rating. Check the individual reference’s documentation for its rating and care guidance rather than assuming that all watches with A386-inspired styling share the same water resistance.

One source of confusion is the separate A386 Revival. Its 2019 technical sheet lists the El Primero 400, at least 50 hours of reserve and 10 ATM water resistance. Those are Revival specifications, not specifications for the modern Chronomaster Original.

How do the documented references differ?

These examples show why the full reference matters. The price figures are from different dates and describe different watches; they are not a like-for-like current-price comparison.

Reference or variant Case and movement Dial and supplied straps Water resistance and reserve Source-specific price
03.3200.3600/69.C902 38 mm stainless steel; automatic El Primero 3600 Details not stated in the cited technical sheet 5 ATM; approximately 60 hours 8,400 CHF in Zenith’s 2021 technical sheet; historical listed price, not a verified current price
Blue-dial Chronomaster Original 38 mm family variant; the cited announcement describes the El Primero 3600 Blue dial; blue calfskin strap and three-link steel bracelet supplied Details not stated in the cited blue-dial announcement Not stated in the cited announcement
Paris Edition, 03.3207.3600/75.M3230 38 mm steel; El Primero 3600 Gradient verdigris dial; steel bracelet and additional black nubuck strap 5 ATM; 60 hours 11,800 CHF in Zenith’s 2026 announcement

Zenith describes the Paris Edition as a 50-piece edition. Its price and production quantity belong to that specific announcement and reference, not to the whole Chronomaster Original line.

What should you check before choosing one?

  • Full reference and edition: match the number on the listing to the watch’s documentation; a family name or dial description may not be enough to identify it.
  • Movement and functions: confirm whether the watch is an El Primero 3600 model and check the stated chronograph layout and reserve for that reference.
  • Included strap or bracelet: verify what is actually supplied. The blue-dial and Paris Edition announcements describe different packages.
  • Water-resistance rating: use the rating for the exact watch, not the higher rating of the separate A386 Revival.
  • Price date and source: Zenith’s 2021 figure for 03.3200.3600/69.C902 is historical; its 2026 Paris Edition price applies to that limited edition. Neither establishes a current price for another reference.

Zenith’s blue-dial announcement says the Chronomaster Original is available through Zenith boutiques, online and authorized retailers worldwide, but that does not confirm current stock at a particular seller. Confirm the reference, configuration, seller authorization and availability before buying.
