The modern version keeps the original’s case design, but adds a domed sapphire crystal and a display caseback. Zenith offered it on either a calf-leather strap or a stainless-steel ladder bracelet.
How the Revival relates to the 1969 A385
Zenith presented the Chronomaster Revival A385 in 2021 as a reproduction of its 1969 A385 reference. The company says it used the original blueprints and production plans to recreate the 37 mm tonneau-shaped stainless-steel case, including its pump-style pushers. The two specified departures are practical updates: a domed sapphire crystal replaces the original acrylic, and a display back replaces the original solid steel caseback. Zenith’s launch account describes the revival as faithful to the original case design.
Zenith also connects the original watch to “Operation Sky” in 1970. According to the manufacturer, an A385 was attached to the landing gear of an Air France Boeing 707 on a Paris-to-New York flight to test resistance to temperature, wind, and air-pressure changes; Zenith says the watch was still functioning after landing. This is the company’s historical account, not an independently verified test report.
Case, dial and display
The steel case measures 37 mm and has the original’s cushion-like tonneau shape. Its brown smoked-gradient dial is paired with white chronograph counters. Zenith specifies rhodium-plated, faceted markers and hands coated with beige Super-LumiNova.

The display is arranged for both timekeeping and elapsed-time measurement: central hour and minute hands, small seconds at 9 o’clock, a central chronograph hand, a 30-minute counter at 3, and a 12-hour counter at 6. A tachymeter scale runs around the dial, and the date appears at 4:30. Zenith lists water resistance at 5 ATM.
El Primero 400 movement and specifications
Both listed A385 configurations use the automatic El Primero 400, a column-wheel chronograph movement. Zenith specifies a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz, and a minimum power reserve of 50 hours.

Leather strap or ladder bracelet?
Zenith documented two versions. Their movement, case, dial, and stated water resistance are shared; the principal differences are the attachment, clasp, and historical launch price.

The strap gives the watch a warmer, more overtly vintage look; the steel ladder bracelet emphasizes the case’s metal construction. The available product specifications do not establish which wears more comfortably or performs better, so the choice is best treated as a matter of preference. The manufacturer’s sheet establishes the dimensions, movement specifications, dial layout, water-resistance rating, and two configurations. It does not establish current sales status or market pricing, real-world accuracy, wrist fit, comfort, or performance in water. The 5 ATM rating is a stated specification, not a report of water-use testing.
