The Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph pairs a 42 mm stainless-steel case with the automatic El Primero 3600, whose central chronograph hand makes a full turn every ten seconds to display tenths of a second. Its strongest appeal is that unusually legible high-frequency chronograph display, backed by a 10 ATM rating and an interchangeable bracelet-and-strap setup.
What is the Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph?
It is a sport-oriented member of Zenith’s Defy Skyline range, built around the El Primero chronograph movement. The US-listed stainless-steel model is reference 03.9500.3600/21.I001. Zenith specifies a 42 mm steel case, automatic movement, 1/10-second chronograph function, and 10 ATM water resistance on its official product page.

Those specifications position it as a substantial everyday sports chronograph rather than a small, discreet dress watch. The headline feature, however, is not simply that it measures elapsed time: it is how quickly the chronograph hand travels around the dial.
How does the El Primero 3600’s 1/10-second chronograph work?
Zenith says the automatic El Primero 3600 runs at 5 Hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour. When the chronograph is running, its central seconds hand completes one full revolution every ten seconds. That faster sweep lets the dial indicate tenths of a second, rather than requiring the wearer to infer tenths from a conventional one-minute central chronograph hand. These are manufacturer specifications explained in Zenith’s 2024 press release.
#1 Best Overall
The 5 Hz figure describes the movement’s operating frequency; it is not a claim that every timing result is accurate to a tenth of a second under all conditions. The tenth display is the practical distinction: the chronograph’s central hand moves through its scale at a rate designed to show tenths directly.
What does the steel configuration include?
The cited black-dial steel reference is listed with a three-link stainless-steel bracelet and a black patterned rubber strap. Zenith describes the bracelet and supplied strap as interchangeable, with the rubber strap using a steel folding buckle. The manufacturer’s 2024 release says the bracelet “can be swapped with the supplied star-patterned rubber strap with steel folding buckle.”
This makes the included strap a meaningful part of the configuration: the watch can shift from a more integrated steel-bracelet appearance to a sportier rubber-strap look without treating a separately purchased strap as guaranteed. Fitment and availability of replacement parts should be confirmed for the exact reference.

Is the Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph water resistant?
Zenith lists the cited stainless-steel model at 10 ATM. That is the manufacturer’s stated water-resistance rating, not an independent test result. The rating alone does not answer whether a particular used watch remains water resistant today; condition and servicing matter for any individual example.
