It is not solid gold. Its 200 m water-resistance rating and practical features give the conspicuous finish a functional-watch foundation, but the look is deliberately bold rather than discreet. Fratello reported a 300-piece limited run and a US$4,995 price in September 2024; neither figure verifies current stock or today’s price.
What is the Zodiac ZO9308?
ZO9308 is a limited-edition Super Sea Wolf Compression Diver with a deep-blue sunray dial, black ceramic bezel insert, and bright yellow-gold-plated exterior. Fratello’s exact-model review identifies the case and five-row bracelet as stainless steel with 18K gold plating—not solid gold. The dial has applied luminous indexes and a date window. The contrast is the point: blue and black provide some visual balance, but the gold case and bracelet make this a conspicuous watch. Fratello reviewer Lex Stolk describes the aesthetic as initially uncomfortable but ultimately fun and provocative. That reaction is subjective; the model is best suited to someone who actively wants a gold-toned diver, not a watch that blends into an outfit.

These exact-reference specifications are reported in Fratello’s review. Zodiac’s Compression Diver collection page provides family-level context: it describes Super Sea Wolf Compression models with Swiss-made STP 1-11 or 1-21 movements, Super-LumiNova hands and indexes, up to 20 ATM water resistance, 40 mm cases, rotating bezels, and interchangeable straps or bracelets. Those family statements should not be treated as proof of every detail on this limited edition.

How it wears
On paper, the 40 mm diameter is moderate, but the 48.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement and angular lugs matter when judging fit. Wrist shape and the way a bracelet sits can change how those dimensions feel. In his review, Stolk says the watch sat comfortably on his 18 cm wrist and felt like other Super Sea Wolf Compression Divers. He also liked the long, angular lugs, writing, “I do love the long, angular lugs, for instance.” Those are his individual impressions, not a guarantee of fit for another wrist.
Stolk reports that the five-row bracelet’s spring-loaded expandable butterfly clasp caused him no complaint. Anyone considering a used example should check the bracelet and clasp condition directly rather than assume the review reflects the condition of a particular listing.
Is it a functional dive watch?
The ZO9308 combines an automatic movement, unidirectional rotating bezel, sapphire crystal, and a stated 200 m water-resistance rating. That is a substantial dive-watch specification on paper, not evidence of independent testing. A rating alone does not establish that a particular watch remains water-resistant today or is suitable for a specific dive. For a pre-owned watch, ask about service and pressure testing, and have its condition assessed before relying on it in water.

Who should consider the ZO9308?
- Consider it if you want a gold-plated rather than solid-gold watch, enjoy a highly visible yellow-gold finish, and value an automatic movement with a 200 m stated rating.
- Look elsewhere if you prefer understated steel or black styling, need a fit confirmed on your own wrist, or require verified present-day pricing and availability before deciding.
For brand context, Zodiac’s official history says Ariste Calame opened a workshop in Le Locle in 1882 and that the brand launched the Sea Wolf at the 1953 Basel Watch Fair. Zodiac’s account is the basis for that specific date; Fratello notes that the precise first-release year is debated. (Zodiac’s official history; Fratello.)
