Lange & Söhne 1815 34 mm and Breguet Classique Souscription 2025 are both manually wound, 3-bar dress watches, but they take very different approaches to timekeeping. The Lange is the smaller, thinner, conventional three-hand watch; the Breguet is larger and thicker, with a single central hand and a stated 24-hour advantage in power reserve. The better fit depends on whether you want compact proportions and seconds indication or the Souscription’s simplified display and white enamel dial.
Which watches are being compared?
This is a comparison of the 2025 A. Lange & Söhne 1815 in 34 mm—specifically white-gold reference 220.028—and Breguet’s Classique Souscription 2025, reference 2025BH/28/9W6. It is not a comparison with a vintage Souscription pocket watch or another Breguet Classique. Lange also lists the 1815 in pink gold as reference 220.037. The 1815 name refers to the birth year of founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange. Lange’s reference page and 1815 collection page identify the watch and its variants; Breguet’s product page identifies its 2025 model.

Which is better for your wrist and display preferences?
Choose the Lange for a compact, conventional layout
At 34 mm across and 6.4 mm thick, the 1815 is 6 mm smaller in diameter and 4.4 mm thinner than the Breguet. Its three-hand display includes subsidiary seconds, so it provides a familiar way to read hours and minutes while keeping track of seconds. The 34 mm proportions and three-hand format are suited to someone looking for a discreet dress watch with seconds indication. Those dimensions alone do not establish how it will fit a particular wrist: lug-to-lug measurements are not stated on the cited pages.

Choose the Breguet if you want a single-hand watch
The Souscription’s single central hour hand gives time-reading a different rhythm from the Lange’s three-hand layout. It has no seconds hand. Its 40 mm diameter and 10.8 mm thickness make it the larger and thicker option on paper, but those figures do not prove that it will feel too large or uncomfortable on a particular wrist; verified lug-to-lug measurements and comparative on-wrist testing are not available here.
How do the dials express each watch’s history?
Lange: pocket-watch cues in a three-hand 1815
Lange’s description highlights a railway-track minute scale, Arabic numerals, lancet-shaped hands, and subsidiary seconds at 6, drawing on pocket-watch design. Its press material calls the 34 mm model a more discreet take on the three-hand watch. The blue dial on white-gold reference 220.028 is made of 925 silver. Lange also describes the L152.1 calibre’s hand-engraved balance cock, three-quarter plate, screwed gold chatons, and Glashütte ribbing; these are manufacturer-reported construction details, not an independent finishing assessment. Lange’s 2025 announcement gives its design and movement description.

Breguet: an enamel dial and the Souscription concept
Breguet presents the 2025 Souscription as a wristwatch inspired by its historical Souscription pocket-watch concept. Its April 24, 2025 announcement describes a white Grand Feu enamel dial, a flame-blued steel single hand, Breguet Arabic numerals, and a circular railroad-track minute scale. The dial also carries a discreet “Souscription” inscription, a unique serial number, and a secret signature. These details serve a different kind of historical reference from the Lange’s pocket-watch cues: Breguet centers the design on the single-hand Souscription idea. See Breguet’s release.
Does the Breguet’s 96-hour reserve make it the more practical choice?
Breguet publishes a 96-hour reserve, 24 hours more than Lange’s stated 72 hours. That is about four days versus three days on the manufacturers’ figures, not a guarantee of actual running time in every use. Both watches are manually wound, so the longer stated reserve gives the Breguet a longer interval before winding is required if each runs to its published specification. No independent running-time test is established here.

- Consider the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 34 mm if you prefer a smaller, thinner case, a conventional three-hand display with seconds, and a blue silver dial.
- Consider the Breguet Classique Souscription 2025 if the larger case, single-hand display, white Grand Feu enamel, and Souscription heritage are the features you value.
These are preference-based conclusions from published features, not a verdict about accuracy, comfort, or comparative finishing. Neither brand’s cited page provides a numerical retail price: Lange lists “Price upon request” for reference 220.028 and directs buyers to a boutique; Breguet directs buyers to a point of sale for its recommended retail price. Regional stock, wait times, and secondary-market values are not established. Breguet announced that the watch received the 2025 GPHG Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix on November 14, 2025; that award is not a comparative quality score against the Lange. Breguet’s award announcement.
