LIC Leather is a Belgian specialist in aftermarket watch straps, with options spanning traditional leathers, Alcantara and an apple-based vegan material. The right choice depends on your watch’s lug width, the strap’s dimensions, and the look and finish you want—not on a universal ranking of materials.
What LIC makes—and what the 2021 article covered
Rob Nudds’s March 1, 2021 Fratello Watches article, “A Selection Of LIC Straps From Belgium For Your Attention”, introduced LIC Leather through a selection of straps in different materials, colors and finishes. Nudds wrote, “LIC Leather from Belgium is one such specialist I would, after wearing its products for a while, heartily recommend.” That is his personal assessment, not an independent test of every current model.
LIC’s official product pages currently describe examples including buffalo leather, Alcantara and an apple-based vegan material. The company profile on LinkedIn says LIC has made straps by hand in Ostend since 1971; that history is company-profile information rather than a claim on the company’s own product pages. Materials mentioned across the 2021 article and current listings also include calf leather, suede, alligator and frog leather. They should not be taken to mean every material is available in every model or collection.

How to choose a strap for your watch
Start with lug width and strap dimensions
Measure or verify the distance between the watch’s lugs before ordering. LIC describes its straps as compatible with straight-lug watches, while retailer listings show that widths and lengths may be selectable. Check both the lug width and the strap length against your watch and wrist; a strap that fits the lug width can still be the wrong length.
Choose material and finish for the look you want
Leather, suede, Alcantara and the apple-based material create different appearances and have different product descriptions. The available sources do not establish that one is more durable than another. In his 2021 article, Nudds said he preferred a matte alligator finish and named a gray French calf strap as his favorite from the selection. Those are his preferences, not a general recommendation.

Check attachment and buckle choices
Options vary by model. LIC’s Himalaya Black page lists quick-release spring bars and optional buckles. Verify the specific strap’s product page before assuming it includes a buckle or offers a particular attachment system.
Are LIC straps made for Hermès or Cartier?
Watchbands.co.uk describes LIC straps as replacement straps for watches including Hermès and Cartier, and explicitly notes that the straps are not made by those watch brands. Treat them as aftermarket options; the cited information does not establish brand endorsement.
