Airain’s current product page lists it at €3,450 and specifies a 39 mm case, 50 m water resistance and a hand-wound flyback chronograph movement with a 63-hour power reserve. Those current specifications differ from the version Monochrome covered in 2022, so the older review’s €2,600 price and AM1 movement should be treated as historical, not current.

What changed since the 2022 hands-on?
Monochrome’s article, dated 8 February 2022, describes a version with a La Joux-Perret AM1 movement, 60-hour reserve, 24 jewels and a domed Hesalite crystal. It lists a 39.5 mm case, 10.85 mm height excluding the crystal, 47.7 mm lug-to-lug and 50 m water resistance. The article gave a price of €2,600 at that time and described cognac-brown or black suede strap options with a steel pin buckle.
Airain’s current listing instead specifies the AM2 by Manufacture AMT, a 63-hour reserve, 23 jewels and sapphire crystal. Dimensions also differ slightly: the current detailed specifications give 39 mm case diameter and 47.5 mm lug-to-lug. The sources document the differing versions, but do not establish when each change occurred or whether every reference or region was updated at the same time. Do not use the 2022 price or specifications as a description of the current listing.

Monochrome called the black-dial edition non-limited in its February 2022 article. Airain currently lists a core Type 20 alongside separate limited editions on its collection page. That supports treating this black-dial model as the non-limited offering described by Monochrome, rather than as one of the separately identified limited releases; current stock or production quantities are not stated.
Airain’s collection page lists both Type 20 and Type 21 at €3,450 at the time accessed: Airain Type 20 and Type 21 collection.
What does the flyback function do?
A flyback chronograph can be reset and restarted with one operation, rather than stopping the chronograph, resetting it and starting it again in separate steps. That makes it useful for timing consecutive intervals. Airain presents the function as part of the Type 20’s pilot-oriented design; the available specifications do not establish measured accuracy or performance in actual flight use.

How does the Type 20 differ from the Type 21?
Airain describes the Type 20 as based on the original 1950s specification for French military pilots. In the brand’s account, the Type 21 reflects a 1956 French Ministry of Defence update intended to improve durability and serviceability. This is Airain’s framing of the lineage; the cited collection information does not provide a complete side-by-side specification comparison for the two models.
Will the case fit your wrist?
The current detailed specification gives a 39 mm case, 47.5 mm lug-to-lug and 14.77 mm overall height. Those figures describe the watch, not how it will wear on a particular wrist: wrist shape, strap adjustment and personal preference all affect fit. If thickness is a concern, note that the 10.85 mm figure excludes the crystal and is not the full height of the current watch.
