However, this was a historical promotion, not a current deal. Oura has since released newer generations, and its current support documentation says Gen 3 rings are no longer sold directly by Oura.
The $249 price was genuinely notable, but the word “record” needs context: Engadget reported it as the lowest price it had tracked, rather than proving it was the lowest price ever across every retailer, seller, coupon, open-box unit, or used listing.
What the Oura Ring Gen 3 cost during the deal

Availability could vary by size, finish, seller, and Gen 3 body style. Gen 3 was offered in Heritage and Horizon designs, so an Amazon listing’s exact configuration mattered as much as its headline price.
Why $249 was significant—and why it was not automatically the best buy
The discount arrived after Oura announced the Ring 4 on October 3, 2024. That made Gen 3 the previous generation even while it was on sale. Gen 4 introduced Oura’s Smart Sensing platform, recessed sensors, a fully titanium construction, and sizes 4 through 15. Those improvements were most relevant to shoppers prioritizing newer hardware, comfort, or fit.

Gen 3 did not become unusable when Ring 4 launched. Oura documented continued software improvements for Gen 3 members, including features such as Daytime Stress, Automatic Activity Detection, and Cycle Insights. Still, software support is not the same as having the newest sensors or design, and Oura does not promise that every future feature will reach older hardware.
What Gen 3 tracked
Depending on model and software, Gen 3 provided sleep, nighttime biosignal, activity, and health-trend tracking. Its hardware included green, red, and infrared LEDs for daytime and activity heart-rate measurements, plus an additional temperature sensor. These are consumer wellness features—not medical diagnoses or substitutes for clinical care.
The ring’s strongest case was its compact form factor and emphasis on sleep, recovery, heart-rate, temperature, and activity trends. Buyers looking for medical-grade diagnosis, treatment recommendations, or a replacement for professional care should not buy it for those purposes.
The subscription changes the real price
The $249 hardware price was not the complete cost of ownership. Oura says the ring has only limited functionality without Membership; the full experience requires a recurring subscription.

Oura’s current U.S. Membership price is $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year, with one complimentary month for new members. Those are current 2026 prices and should not be treated as the exact subscription terms available during the 2024 Cyber Monday promotion. Membership is tied to the customer’s account, not the physical ring, so an existing member should not assume that buying another ring provides another free month. Using the current annual price only as an illustration, a $249 ring plus a year of Membership after the included first month would total approximately $318.99 before tax. At today’s annual rate, five years of Membership alone would cost $349.95. Neither calculation represents the actual 2024 checkout total, and future subscription prices may change.
Do not guess your size
Oura recommends using a sizing kit because its sizes differ slightly from standard U.S. ring sizes and half sizes are not available. A poor fit can affect comfort, wearability, and the consistency of collected data.
Engadget reported that the Gen 3 sizing-kit purchase could provide $10 toward the ring under the promotion’s retail terms. That credit was listing- and seller-dependent, so shoppers needed to confirm it at checkout. Also, do not assume a Gen 3 sizing kit works for Ring 4: Oura says sizing differs between generations.

- Confirm whether the listing includes a sizing kit or permits size confirmation after ordering.
- Check that any $10 credit applies to the exact seller and listing.
- Do not transfer a normal ring size without checking Oura’s sizing guidance.
- Review the retailer’s return window before opening or sizing the ring.

Gen 4’s newer sensing and construction may matter to shoppers who plan to wear the ring continuously for years. That does not establish that Gen 4 is categorically more accurate in every use case; the practical advantage is that it is newer hardware with updated fit and sensor design.
What to check if you find Gen 3 stock now
As of 2026, Oura says Gen 3 rings and chargers are no longer available directly from the company. Any remaining Amazon inventory should therefore be treated as retailer, third-party, refurbished, used, or old-stock merchandise until the listing confirms otherwise.
- Condition: Verify whether it is new, renewed, used, or open-box.
- Seller: Check the seller’s identity, authorization, and reputation.
- Battery: Older inventory and used rings may have reduced battery capacity.
- Accessories: Confirm that the correct charger is included.
- Account status: Ask whether the ring has been paired with another account and how it can be transferred.
- Returns: Retail purchases must generally be returned through the retailer, and policies vary. Oura’s guidance is available on its retail-purchases support page.
- Current price: Do not assume the 2024 $249 price is still available.
Who should have bought the $249 Gen 3?
It made the most sense for a budget-conscious shopper specifically interested in Oura’s sleep and recovery ecosystem, an existing user seeking a discounted replacement, or someone comfortable paying for Membership who did not value Ring 4’s hardware improvements highly.
It was a poor fit for subscription-averse buyers, anyone wanting the newest hardware, shoppers unable to confirm sizing or returns, and anyone purchasing from an unfamiliar seller. Buyers expecting clinical diagnosis or treatment should also look elsewhere for appropriate medical care.

What about Oura Ring 5?
Ring 4 is no longer the newest Oura generation. Oura’s support documentation identifies Ring 5 as the current generation as of July 2026. Oura describes it as thinner than Ring 4, with 40% less volume and updated sensing hardware. No reliable current retail price is established here, so shoppers should check Oura or an authorized retailer directly rather than relying on an old launch price.
Verdict
The December 2, 2024 Cyber Monday promotion was a strong historical discount: $249 for black or silver Gen 3, with larger finishes priced at $279 or $349. But it was only a good purchase for shoppers who accepted older hardware, confirmed the size and seller, and budgeted for Membership.
If a Gen 3 appears today, buy only when the condition, battery, charger, returns, and price are clearly favorable. If the price gap to a newer Oura model is modest, newer hardware and lower age-related risk are usually more compelling. If you do not want a subscription, skip Oura rather than treating the discounted ring as a subscription-free bargain.
