AirPods Pro 2 originally launched on September 23, 2022, at $249 in the United States. Apple followed with a USB-C charging-case version on September 22, 2023, also priced at $249. The two versions share the H2-based AirPods Pro 2 platform, but they are not identical: the USB-C model adds an IP54-rated case and lossless audio support with Apple Vision Pro.
In the current buying context, AirPods Pro 2 are no longer Apple’s newest Pro earbuds. Apple’s U.S. store lists AirPods Pro 3 at $249 in the supplied price snapshot, so Pro 2 make the most sense when discounted—or when their mature feature set is specifically what you want. Apple announced the original AirPods Pro 2 in 2022, and the USB-C revision in 2023.

The 2023 product was an updated second-generation model, not a completely new generation. Both use Apple’s H2 chip and retain the main Pro 2 audio, noise-control and battery features. The connector, dust resistance, bundled cable and Vision Pro lossless-audio capability differ.

How much do AirPods Pro 2 cost?
The original U.S. launch price was $249, and Apple kept that price for the USB-C revision. In the supplied U.S. store snapshot, Apple lists AirPods Pro 2 at $249: check Apple’s product page for the live price and availability.
That price is not automatically a good deal anymore. Apple’s U.S. store also lists AirPods Pro 3 at $249 in the same research snapshot, making the newer model the more logical choice when prices are equal or nearly equal. Pro 2 become more compelling when a reputable retailer offers a substantial discount on a new USB-C pair.
Prices, stock and the availability of Lightning versus USB-C units can change quickly. Before buying, compare the actual price of Pro 2 with AirPods Pro 3, confirm the case connector, and check the seller’s return policy.

AirPods Pro 2 replaced the original H1 platform with Apple’s H2 chip and added or improved several important features:
- Stronger active noise cancellation. Apple described it as up to twice as effective as the original AirPods Pro under its testing conditions; that is an Apple claim, not a guarantee for every listener or frequency.
- Adaptive Transparency, with later software updates adding Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness.
- Touch-stem volume control.
- Longer stated battery life.
- A redesigned MagSafe case with a speaker, lanyard loop and Find My support.
- Four ear-tip sizes, including XS.
- Later Hearing Test, Hearing Aid and Hearing Protection functions in supported markets.
These software-enabled additions do not all arrive simply because a listener owns the hardware. Compatible Apple devices, operating systems and current AirPods firmware may be required.
AirPods Pro 2 features
Noise control and audio
- Active Noise Cancellation: reduces external sound, with performance heavily dependent on the ear-tip seal.
- Transparency mode: lets surrounding sound through for awareness and conversation.
- Adaptive Audio: adjusts noise-control behavior according to the environment.
- Conversation Awareness: lowers media volume when the wearer speaks.
- Adaptive EQ: adjusts sound based on fit and seal.
- Personalized Spatial Audio: supports dynamic head tracking with compatible content and Apple devices.
- Voice Isolation and Siri-related features: availability depends on compatible software and hardware.
The USB-C version also supports lossless audio with a compatible Apple Vision Pro setup. This is a specialized Vision Pro feature, not a general lossless Bluetooth advantage for phones, laptops or Android devices.

Case and Find My features
The MagSafe Charging Case includes a built-in speaker and lanyard loop. Find My can help locate the case and earbuds, provided the relevant Apple-device and account requirements are met. The USB-C case can charge through USB-C, MagSafe, Qi-certified chargers and an Apple Watch charger.
AirPods Pro 2 specifications
The following figures apply to the USB-C model. For the original Lightning version, consult Apple’s separate technical specifications.
| Specification | AirPods Pro 2 USB-C |
|---|---|
| Introduction year | 2023 |
| Chip | Apple H2 |
| Wireless standard | Bluetooth 5.3 |
| Earbud weight | 5.3g each |
| Case weight | 50.8g |
| Earbud dimensions | 30.9 × 21.8 × 24.0mm |
| Ear tips | XS, S, M and L |

| Rating | IP54 for earbuds and case |

IP54 is not waterproofing. It indicates dust, sweat and water resistance under specified conditions; it does not permit swimming, submersion or high-pressure water exposure. Resistance can decline through normal wear or damage.
AirPods Pro 2 hearing-health features
AirPods Pro 2 can provide three hearing-health functions in supported regions and configurations:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Hearing Test: a clinically validated hearing test accessed through a compatible Apple device.
- Hearing Aid: intended for adults with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss, subject to compatibility and regulatory authorization.
- Hearing Protection: helps reduce exposure to loud environmental sound, subject to fit, settings, battery state and software.
These capabilities are not universally available. Country or regional authorization, the exact iPhone or iPad model, operating-system version, AirPods firmware and pairing setup can all matter. Verify your own market and device before buying for hearing support. Apple’s regulatory instructions show a settings path beginning with Settings → [Name]’s AirPods Pro 2 → Hearing Health → Hearing: Hearing Aid instructions.
Rank #3
- Active Noise Cancellation reduces unwanted background noise
- Adaptive Transparency lets outside sounds in while reducing loud environmental noise
- Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking places sound all around you
- Multiple ear tips (XS, S, M, L)
- Touch control lets you swipe to adjust volume, press to direct media playback, answer or end calls, and press and hold to switch between listening modes
AirPods Pro 2 are not a universal replacement for professionally fitted hearing aids. Seek medical care for sudden hearing loss, one-sided or rapidly changing hearing, pain, drainage, severe tinnitus or other concerning symptoms. Professional hearing care may be necessary for fitting, diagnosis, ongoing adjustment and clinical management.
Battery life, charging and durability
Apple rates AirPods Pro 2 for up to six hours of listening on one charge and up to 30 hours with the case. With Spatial Audio and head tracking enabled, the stated figure falls to up to 5.5 hours. Apple also says approximately five minutes in the case can provide around one hour of listening under its test conditions.
Actual runtime varies with volume, call use, listening modes, Spatial Audio, software, temperature and battery age. “Up to” figures should not be treated as a guarantee. The small earbud batteries are not ordinarily user-replaceable, so an older or secondhand pair may perform substantially worse than a new one.
Do not charge wet earbuds or a wet case. IP54 protection is not permanent, and AirPods Pro 2 should not be used for swimming.

AirPods Pro 2 can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, including Android phones, but Apple-specific functions are limited outside the Apple ecosystem. Full functionality requires compatible Apple hardware, current operating-system software and current AirPods firmware.
Hearing Test and Hearing Aid require supported iPhone or iPad models and current software; do not rely on the broad statement that they work with every iPhone. Vision Pro lossless audio is limited to the USB-C model and a compatible Apple Vision Pro setup. Check Apple’s current requirements before purchase: AirPods Pro 2 technical support.

USB-C versus Lightning: which AirPods Pro 2 should you buy?
| USB-C model | Lightning model |
|---|---|
| USB-C charging | Lightning charging |
| IP54 rating for earbuds and case | Earlier case specification |
| Lossless audio with compatible Vision Pro | No USB-C-specific Vision Pro lossless capability |
| Better match for current USB-C accessories | Useful if heavily discounted or you already use Lightning accessories |
The USB-C version is the safer choice for a new buyer unless the Lightning model is meaningfully cheaper. It is more convenient alongside modern iPhones, iPads and Macs and has the stronger case rating. It is not automatically better-sounding for ordinary Bluetooth listening, however, and Vision Pro lossless audio matters only to Vision Pro owners.

Are AirPods Pro 2 still worth buying in 2026?
Buy AirPods Pro 2 when
- The USB-C model is clearly cheaper than AirPods Pro 3.
- You already use compatible Apple devices and want strong ANC, Transparency mode, Spatial Audio and silicone ear tips.
- You want the Pro 2 hearing-health feature set and it is supported in your region.
- You find new stock from a reputable seller with a good return policy.
Choose AirPods Pro 3 when
AirPods Pro 3 are the newer Pro generation. If their price is the same or close to Pro 2, they are generally the more future-facing purchase for buyers who want Apple’s latest Pro hardware and features. Compare the two models on Apple’s current pages before deciding: AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3.
Choose AirPods 4 with ANC when
AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation are the better direction for readers who dislike silicone ear tips, prefer a more open fit or want a lower-priced Apple ANC option. The supplied Apple store snapshot lists AirPods 4 at $129. They do not provide the same sealed fit, full Pro feature set or Pro hearing-health positioning.
Choose conventional hearing aids when
Professional hearing care is the better route for significant, asymmetric, rapidly changing or medically unexplained hearing loss, or when you need custom fitting, clinical support, specialized accessories or insurance coverage. AirPods can be useful consumer hearing technology, but they should not delay an evaluation.
Common problems and buying risks
Hearing Aid is unavailable
- Update the paired iPhone or iPad.
- Charge and reconnect the AirPods.
- Check the AirPods firmware.
- Confirm the exact earbud generation and case version.
- Look under AirPods settings for Hearing Health.
- Check whether the feature is authorized in your country or region.
If the feature remains unavailable or does not meet your needs, seek professional hearing care.
Noise cancellation seems weak
Try the Ear Tip Fit Test and another ear-tip size. A poor seal, earwax, blocked microphone meshes, dirt, an active Transparency or Adaptive Audio mode, or unrealistic expectations can all reduce the perceived effect. Clean the earbuds using Apple’s cleaning guidance, compare Noise Cancellation with Transparency and Off, then reset and re-pair if behavior remains abnormal.
Buying used or counterfeit AirPods
Prefer Apple or an established retailer. For used units, check serial number and warranty coverage, verify that the case really has a USB-C port if advertised as USB-C, and test pairing, Find My, ANC, charging, microphones and battery performance before the return window closes. An unusually low price from an unknown marketplace is a warning sign.
