Apple’s September 9, 2025 event introduced Apple Watch Ultra 3, Series 11, and SE 3 alongside iPhone Air, AirPods Pro 3, and the iPhone 17 lineup. For watch buyers, Ultra 3 is the headline: it keeps a 49mm titanium case and adds satellite features, supported-market 5G, a brighter display, and longer rated battery life. Apple opened preorders September 12, with store availability beginning September 19, 2025.
This is a post-event recap, not a live event feed. The details below summarize Apple’s announcements and launch specifications.
Apple Event 2025: the key announcements

Apple Watch Ultra 3: what changed
Apple Watch Ultra 3 retains the large 49mm titanium case, in Natural Titanium and Black Titanium. Its main changes are satellite communication, 5G cellular support in supported markets and with supported carriers, an updated display, and a longer advertised battery life, according to Apple’s Ultra 3 announcement.
Brighter, more efficient display
Apple says Ultra 3 uses an LTPO3 wide-angle OLED display with thinner borders and brightness of up to 3,000 nits. Its always-on display can refresh as slowly as 1Hz. These are Apple’s launch specifications; the practical benefit is easier reading outdoors while keeping information visible on the always-on screen.
Battery and charging
Apple rates Apple Watch Ultra 3 for:
- Up to 42 hours of normal use.
- Up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode.
- Up to 12 hours of additional battery life from a 15-minute fast charge.
These are Apple’s estimates, not guarantees. GPS use, cellular connectivity, workout tracking, display brightness, and satellite features can affect real-world endurance. The 42-hour rating gives Ultra 3 more headroom for overnight health tracking and multi-day trips than a watch that needs daily charging.
Satellite communication is useful, but not a replacement for cellular service
Apple says Ultra 3 can use satellite features when Wi-Fi and cellular networks are unavailable. These include Messages via satellite, Find My location sharing via satellite, and Emergency SOS via satellite.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

The limitations matter:
- You need a clear view of the sky.
- The watch guides you through the connection process with its onscreen Connection Assistant.
- Satellite communication does not provide ordinary, full-time cellular service.
- Find My location sharing via satellite can send your location to previously added contacts once every 15 minutes.
- Apple says satellite features are included free for two years with Apple Watch Ultra 3.
This can matter to hikers, sailors, campers, and others who travel beyond reliable network coverage. Satellite messaging can take longer, requires suitable conditions, and is not a substitute for a cellular signal.

New health features: sleep score and hypertension notifications
Apple Watch Ultra 3 adds a sleep score and hypertension notifications. The hypertension feature does not measure blood pressure. Apple says it analyzes heart-sensor data over 30-day periods for patterns associated with possible hypertension. After a notification, Apple recommends taking readings with a third-party blood-pressure cuff for seven days and discussing the results with a healthcare provider.
Apple says the feature is not intended for people under 22, people already diagnosed with hypertension, or use during pregnancy. Apple’s September 9 launch announcement described the feature as under regulatory review; later Apple documentation describes FDA-cleared hypertension notifications as available. Availability may depend on region, software version, and regulatory status.
WatchRanker verdict: Treat hypertension notifications as a prompt to investigate, not as a diagnosis or a substitute for a medical blood-pressure monitor.

Apple’s official product name is iPhone Air, not “iPhone 17 Air” or “iPhone 17 Slim.” It starts at $999 in the United States and is available with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, according to Apple’s iPhone Air announcement and specifications.
Apple lists these headline specifications:
- 5.64mm thickness and 165-gram weight.
- 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display.
- Dynamic Island, Always-On display, and ProMotion up to 120Hz.
- A19 Pro chip, N1 wireless chip, and C1X cellular modem.
- 48MP Fusion Main rear camera and 18MP Center Stage front camera.
- Up to 27 hours of video playback.
- Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, and Sky Blue finishes.
iPhone Air is eSIM-only and does not accept a physical SIM card. Apple also sells an optional $99 iPhone Air MagSafe Battery. Apple claims up to 40 hours of video playback with that accessory; it is not included with the phone.

AirPods Pro 3 add workout heart-rate tracking
AirPods Pro 3 launched at $249. Apple claims up to twice the Active Noise Cancellation performance of AirPods Pro 2 and up to four times that of the original AirPods Pro. Apple also lists an improved fit and IP57 dust, sweat, and water resistance.
For Apple Watch users, another notable addition is workout heart-rate sensing. AirPods Pro 3 can track heart rate during exercise and support more than 50 workout types through the Fitness app on iPhone. Apple rates listening time at up to eight hours with ANC enabled, or up to 6.5 hours when workout heart-rate sensing is enabled. The charging case provides up to 24 hours of total listening time with ANC enabled.
The case supports MagSafe, Apple Watch charging, Qi-certified charging, and USB-C, according to Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 announcement.
Live Translation requirements
Live Translation is not an AirPods-only feature and is not available with every iPhone. Apple’s current requirements include AirPods Pro 3 with current firmware, an iPhone 15 Pro or later, iOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence enabled, the Translate app, and downloaded language packs.
The feature is in beta and may vary by language and region. Apple also supports Live Translation with AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 with ANC, so it is not exclusive to AirPods Pro 3.

watchOS 26 and compatibility
watchOS 26 became available as a free update on September 15, 2025. Apple says it requires an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26.

That compatibility requirement matters when comparing Ultra 3 with an older Apple Watch: buying the new hardware does not remove the need for a compatible iPhone, and some features may have additional regional, carrier, or regulatory requirements. Apple’s September 2025 software announcement gives the release date and compatibility requirement.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you buy Apple Watch Ultra 3?
Ultra 3 is the clearest choice for buyers who want long battery life, a large bright screen, rugged titanium construction, cellular connectivity, or communication options away from networks. Its satellite features are most relevant to outdoor users who understand their limitations.
For ordinary daily wear, the decision is less automatic. The 49mm case is large, the $799 starting price is high, and many users may not need satellite messaging or 5G on their wrist. Apple Watch Series 11 may be more practical for buyers seeking a general-purpose Apple Watch, while SE 3 targets buyers looking for a lower-cost entry point.
iPhone Air and AirPods Pro 3 round out the event, but for watch shoppers the central question remains whether Ultra 3’s endurance and off-grid capabilities justify its size and price.

Are AirPods Pro 3 water resistant?
Apple lists AirPods Pro 3 as IP57 resistant to dust, sweat, and water. This rating does not make them suitable for every exposure or use condition.
The Bottom Line
Apple Event 2025 delivered a meaningful upgrade for serious Apple Watch users rather than a routine case refresh. Apple Watch Ultra 3 combines a 3,000-nit display, up to 42 hours of normal-use battery life, supported-market 5G, and limited satellite communication at $799. Apple’s launch specifications and support documentation also make clear that satellite tools and hypertension notifications have restrictions: they are not substitutes for a cellular network, a blood-pressure cuff, or professional medical advice.
