Apple’s “Awe Dropping” event took place at Apple Park on September 9, 2025. Apple introduced four new iPhones—the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—alongside Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch SE 3 and AirPods Pro 3. The iPhone Air was the event’s most distinctive announcement, while the Apple Watch updates focused on health, safety and battery life.
Preorders opened on September 12, with retail availability beginning September 19, 2025. Prices below are U.S. launch prices unless stated otherwise.

What Apple announced on September 9
The keynote revealed the new hardware lineup and Apple’s accompanying software direction, including iOS 26 and its Liquid Glass interface. Apple discussed availability and promotional carrier offers in a September 11 update; those later offers should not be confused with Apple’s standard list prices.

iPhone Air: the headline redesign
The iPhone Air is a separate model rather than a thinner version of the Pro. Apple lists it at 5.64mm thick and 165 grams, with a 6.5-inch OLED display, ProMotion up to 120Hz and an Always-On display. It uses titanium construction, Dynamic Island, the Action button and Camera Control. Apple also rates it IP68 for water and dust resistance.
Underneath, the phone uses Apple’s A19 Pro chip. That gives it a Pro-branded processor, but it does not give it the Pro camera system. The rear camera is a single 48MP Fusion system, while the iPhone 17 Pro models retain multiple rear cameras for greater shooting flexibility. The front camera is an 18MP Center Stage camera.
- Storage: 256GB, 512GB or 1TB.
- U.S. starting price: $999.
- Apple’s claimed video playback: up to 27 hours.
The Air’s appeal is straightforward: it is lighter and thinner than the conventional large iPhone designs while retaining a high-refresh-rate display and powerful silicon. The compromises are equally important. Buyers get one rear-camera system rather than the Pro arrangement, and the thin body necessarily leaves less room for battery capacity and thermal hardware than a larger Pro model. Apple’s battery and performance claims should be treated as Apple’s claims rather than independent test results.
Recommended Free Tools
The best description is therefore “design-led iPhone with high-end performance,” not “cheaper iPhone 17 Pro.” Choose it for portability and appearance; choose a Pro model for camera versatility, sustained workloads and maximum battery potential.
iPhone 17: the mainstream baseline
The standard iPhone 17 started at $799 in the U.S., with 256GB as the base storage and a 512GB option. It received a brighter, higher-refresh-rate display with ProMotion, the A19 chip, camera updates and the 18MP Center Stage front camera. Apple also introduced new finishes and exterior changes.
For many buyers, this is the value reference point for the entire range. It costs $200 less than the iPhone Air at the listed starting prices while offering the familiar standard-iPhone format. The Air is thinner and more distinctive, but the iPhone 17 may be the more sensible choice for buyers who want a mainstream phone without paying for the Air’s design or the Pro models’ camera hardware.
Apple’s store separates carrier-connected pricing from the price to connect to any carrier later. Trade-in credits and carrier promotions can change the effective cost, but they may require an eligible device, bill credits, a qualifying plan or new-line activation.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: a structural redesign
Apple redesigned the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max around a new rear camera platform that extends across the upper back. The models use an aluminum unibody design and were shown in finishes including Cosmic Orange. Apple said the internal redesign improves thermal management and creates more room for battery capacity.
The Pro range uses the A19 Pro generation of chips and a 48MP Fusion camera system across its rear cameras. Apple also highlighted Ceramic Shield 2 and improvements to photography and video, including telephoto capability and more advanced video tools. Claims about performance, durability and battery life remain manufacturer claims unless confirmed by independent testing.
The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1,099 in the U.S. The Pro Max is the larger model and is aimed at buyers who want the biggest display, the greatest battery capacity in the range and the highest available storage. The Pro is easier to handle and less expensive; the Pro Max is the maximum-specification option.
The redesign is not automatically an upgrade in every practical respect. Existing cases may not fit the new camera platform or body dimensions, so owners should verify compatibility rather than assume an older case will carry over. The same caution applies to accessories designed around precise camera cutouts. Apple presented the new construction as a performance and battery decision, but the available evidence does not establish an independent improvement in repairability or durability.

Series 11 was positioned as the mainstream health and fitness watch. Apple highlighted Sleep Score insights, hypertension notifications and up to 24 hours of battery life. The watch also received new finishes and bands, along with display and performance updates.
Apple Watch Series 11 started at $399 in the U.S. GPS and cellular configurations differ, and the final cost also depends on case material, size and band. Hypertension notifications were subject to FDA review in Apple’s September 11 availability update, so the feature should not be treated as universally available. Health features can also vary by country, language, software version and regulatory approval.
For an owner of Series 9 or Series 10, the upgrade case is strongest if Sleep Score, the newer health features or longer claimed battery life matter. Owners whose current watch already covers their health and notification needs may see less reason to replace it.

Apple Watch Ultra 3
Ultra 3 remained the outdoor and safety-focused option. Apple highlighted satellite communications for Emergency SOS, Messages and location sharing, in addition to the Ultra’s larger display, rugged construction and cellular connectivity.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteSatellite functions are not a universal substitute for cellular service. They depend on supported countries and networks, compatible software and a sufficiently unobstructed view of the sky. Apple’s technical documentation should be checked for the buyer’s region before purchase. Ultra 3 makes the most sense for hikers, travelers, endurance athletes and users who genuinely benefit from extended battery life and emergency connectivity. For ordinary notifications, workouts and payments, Series 11 is generally the more proportionate choice.
Apple Watch SE 3
The SE 3 brought newer capabilities to Apple’s entry-level watch line, including an Always-On display, wrist-temperature sensing and a performance update. It also carries health and safety functions inherited from newer Apple Watch generations, while omitting some of the premium features and materials available on Series 11 and Ultra 3.
Apple lists the Apple Watch SE 3 from $249 in the U.S. GPS and cellular versions are priced differently. It is the clearest choice for children, first-time Apple Watch buyers and budget-conscious users. Buyers who specifically want the broadest health feature set, premium display experience or more advanced materials should move up to Series 11 or Ultra 3.
AirPods Pro 3
AirPods Pro 3 introduced a revised acoustic design and fit, improved active noise cancellation and new health- and language-related capabilities. Apple also highlighted heart-rate or fitness sensing and Live Translation features.
The technical details and availability matter here. Battery-life and noise-cancellation improvements on Apple’s specification pages are based on Apple testing with preproduction hardware and prerelease software, not independent measurements. Translation and other advanced functions can require a compatible iPhone, iPad or Mac, current operating-system versions, supported languages and regional availability.
The charging case supports USB-C and Apple’s listed wireless charging methods, including MagSafe, Qi and Apple Watch charging where supported by the configuration. Precision Finding and some software features also depend on compatible Apple hardware.

AirPods Pro 3 are a logical choice for iPhone users who want the newest fit, noise control and health or translation features. The upgrade is less compelling for AirPods Pro 2 owners whose current earbuds still fit well and provide satisfactory noise cancellation. They are also a weaker choice for Android-first households because several headline features depend on Apple devices and software.

Which product should you buy?
- Best iPhone for thinness: iPhone Air, if its single rear camera and battery trade-offs are acceptable.
- Best iPhone for cameras and battery: iPhone 17 Pro Max, for buyers willing to pay more and carry a larger phone.
- Best value iPhone: iPhone 17, which establishes the range’s lower mainstream price.
- Best Apple Watch for most people: Series 11, with the broadest balance of health, fitness and daily-use features.
- Best outdoor Apple Watch: Ultra 3, particularly for users who can use satellite safety features in supported regions.
- Best budget Apple Watch: SE 3, especially for first-time buyers and families.
- Best earbuds upgrade: AirPods Pro 3 for users with compatible Apple devices who value the new fit, noise control and software features.
Final verdict
Apple’s September 2025 event was defined by product segmentation rather than one universal upgrade. The iPhone Air delivered the most unusual design, but its single-camera setup and likely battery compromises make it a specialist choice. The iPhone 17 is the sensible baseline, while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max remain the right options for photography, video and maximum battery capacity. On the watch side, Series 11 is the general-purpose pick, SE 3 is the value model and Ultra 3 is justified by outdoor and safety needs—not by ordinary smartwatch use alone.
Before buying, verify the exact regional price, carrier conditions, storage, accessory fit and availability of health, satellite and translation features.
