iPhone Air is Apple’s biggest design gamble
The iPhone Air is not simply an iPhone 17 Plus with a new name. It introduces a design-first option for buyers who want a large, smooth display in a much thinner and lighter body.

- A POWERFUL FITNESS TRACKER—With advanced metrics and motivating features like Pacer, Heart Rate Zones, training load, and Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence from your nearby iPhone*—Series 11 is made to help everyone stay active, from runners and hikers to strength-training enthusiasts.
Apple says the iPhone Air is just 5.6mm thick and uses a Grade 5 titanium frame. It has a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion refresh rates up to 120Hz, an Always-On display, and up to 3,000 nits of peak outdoor brightness.
Inside are Apple’s A19 Pro, N1, and C1X chips. Storage starts at 256GB and goes up to 1TB. The launch colors were space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue.
Camera and connectivity compromises
The Air has a single 48MP Fusion rear camera with optical-quality 2x telephoto capability. That is a significant distinction from the iPhone 17 Pro models, which have three dedicated 48MP cameras and much greater zoom flexibility. Its front camera is an 18MP Center Stage camera.
In relevant markets, including the United States, the iPhone Air is eSIM-only. That makes it worth checking carrier and travel compatibility before buying. Confirm that your carrier supports eSIM activation and transfer, that local prepaid providers support it, and that your international travel plans do not depend on carrying a physical SIM as a fallback. Apple says eSIM is supported by more than 500 carriers worldwide, but that does not guarantee support for every plan or destination.
The Air began at $999 in the U.S.—only $100 below the iPhone 17 Pro at launch. That makes it a design-led purchase rather than an obvious value option. Buyers concerned about battery endurance could also add Apple’s separate $99 iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, although doing so partially defeats the point of carrying an exceptionally thin phone. Apple also announced a $49 case, $39 bumper, and $59 crossbody strap.
Apple’s “all-day battery life” description should be treated as a manufacturer claim rather than a guarantee. Endurance depends on brightness, cellular reception, camera use, gaming, background activity, temperature, and battery health.
iPhone 17 brings ProMotion to the standard model
The standard iPhone 17 received a more substantial upgrade than its position in the lineup might suggest. It has a 6.3-inch display with ProMotion up to 120Hz and an Always-On mode, features that had been more closely associated with Apple’s Pro phones.

Other changes include the A19 chip, a 48MP Fusion main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, optical-quality 2x telephoto capability, and an 18MP Center Stage front camera. The front is protected by Ceramic Shield 2.
Storage starts at 256GB, with a 512GB option, and launch colors included black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. The U.S. launch price was $799.
Apple said the iPhone 17 could deliver up to 30 hours of video playback and charge to 50 percent in 20 minutes with an optional high-wattage USB-C power adapter. Those are Apple’s stated figures, not independent test results.
For most buyers, the iPhone 17 was the lineup’s sensible default: it offered a 120Hz display, more base storage, and a meaningful camera upgrade without the Air’s eSIM and single-camera trade-offs or the Pro models’ higher prices. It still does not match the Pro range for telephoto photography, sustained performance, professional video, or thermal design.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max target creators and power users
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max retain the features that justify their higher prices. Both use the A19 Pro chip and a new aluminum unibody design with an Apple-designed vapor chamber for heat management.
The rear camera system consists of three 48MP Fusion cameras: Main, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto. Apple lists 4x optical zoom and 8x optical-quality zoom at 200mm, with up to 40x digital zoom. The front camera is an 18MP Center Stage model.
For video professionals, the Pro phones support ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock. Displays measure 6.3 inches on the Pro and 6.9 inches on the Pro Max, with ProMotion up to 120Hz and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness. Launch finishes were deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver.

Apple claimed that the A19 Pro and vapor chamber could provide up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the preceding generation. That is an Apple claim, not an independently verified benchmark. The Pro models make the most sense for mobile photographers, video creators, demanding gamers, and buyers who specifically need the largest display, battery, or storage configuration.
Apple Watch Series 11 adds health features and longer endurance
Apple Watch Series 11 launched in 42mm and 46mm sizes, with aluminum and polished titanium finishes. It started at $399 and offered optional 5G cellular connectivity where supported by a carrier and market.
Apple rated Series 11 for up to 24 hours of battery life and said 15 minutes of charging could provide up to eight hours of use. Its aluminum display glass was described as having twice the scratch resistance of Series 10 Ion-X glass.
Hypertension notifications are not blood-pressure measurement
The most consequential health announcement was a feature Apple calls hypertension notifications. The system analyzes optical heart-sensor data over time to look for signs associated with chronic high blood pressure.
It does not directly measure blood pressure, diagnose hypertension, detect every case, or replace a cuff. If a user receives a notification, Apple recommends taking readings with a third-party blood-pressure cuff for seven days and discussing the results with a healthcare provider.
Apple also says the feature is not intended for people under 22, people already diagnosed with hypertension, or people who are pregnant. Availability depends on regulatory clearance and region. Apple expected the feature to reach Series 9 and later and Ultra 2 and later with watchOS 26, subject to clearance.

The smartwatch sends alerts for an irregular heart rhythm, or an unusually high or low heart rate.* You can view your overnight health tracking metrics with the Vitals app,* track your sleep score, and get sleep apnea notifications.*
- A GREAT FITNESS TRACKER—SE 3 can track your workouts in a healthy number of ways—from running and strength training to simply achieving your 10K steps a day. With real-time metrics and Workout Buddy powered by Apple Intelligence from your nearby iPhone,* you’ll hit your goals like never before.
- KEEP HELP CLOSE AT HAND—SE 3 is a smartwatch that can detect a hard fall or severe car crash and automatically help connect you to emergency services and notify your emergency contacts.* Check In can automatically notify a loved one when you’ve arrived at your destination.
- WOMEN’S HEALTH INSIGHTS—SE 3 has advanced sensors that track your wrist temperature while you sleep. With this smartwatch, you can log your periods and symptoms, get period predictions, and get notified of cycle deviations.*
- GREAT BATTERY LIFE AND FASTER CHARGING—Enjoy a smartwatch with all-day, 18-hour battery life* from sunup to sundown. Then charge up to twice as fast as SE 2* and get up to 8 hours of battery in just 15 minutes.*
Sleep Score
Sleep Score combines factors including sleep duration, bedtime consistency, wake periods, and time spent in sleep stages. Users can view it in the Sleep app, as a watch-face complication, in Smart Stack, and in the Health app on iPhone. Apple says its approach was informed by sleep-organization guidance and tested using data from the company’s Heart and Movement Study.
Ultra 3 and SE 3 complete the Apple Watch lineup
Apple Watch Ultra 3
Apple Watch Ultra 3 is aimed at outdoor, endurance, and adventure users. It adds satellite communications, including Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, and location sharing via satellite. Apple lists up to 42 hours of battery life, 5G cellular connectivity, and the largest display Apple had put in an Apple Watch at launch.

Satellite and cellular capabilities depend on geography, service availability, and applicable plans.
Apple Watch SE 3
The $249 Apple Watch SE 3 is the value model. It uses the S10 chip and adds an Always-On display and wrist-temperature sensing, while offering a lower-cost route to activity tracking, safety tools, notifications, and core Apple Watch functions.
It does not provide the full Series 11 feature set, so it is better suited to first-time buyers and budget-conscious users than to people specifically seeking Apple’s newest health features or the longer Series 11 battery rating.
AirPods Pro 3 focus on fit, fitness, and noise cancellation
AirPods Pro 3 started at $249. Apple introduced a smaller earbud design, five foam-infused ear-tip sizes including XXS, and IP57 sweat and water resistance.
Apple claimed up to twice as much active noise cancellation as AirPods Pro 2 and up to four times more noise reduction than the original AirPods Pro. Those are Apple’s claims based on its own testing methodology; “world’s best in-ear ANC” should not be presented as an independently established fact.

The earbuds add heart-rate sensing during workouts and workout tracking for more than 50 workout types. Apple lists up to eight hours of music playback with ANC enabled and up to 10 hours in Transparency mode.
AirPods Pro 3 also support Live Translation through Apple Intelligence and a compatible iPhone. This requires supported software, languages, and a nearby compatible device. Hearing-health features likewise vary by country or region, and the earbuds are not a substitute for medical hearing care.

iOS 26
iOS 26 became available as a free update on September 15, 2025. Its most visible change was the Liquid Glass redesign. Apple also introduced or expanded Apple Intelligence features, Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, visual intelligence, call and message screening, CarPlay, Apple Music, Maps, Wallet, Games, and Adaptive Power Mode.

watchOS 26
watchOS 26 began rolling out on September 15, 2025. It brought Sleep Score, hypertension notifications, Workout Buddy, a wrist-flick gesture, Live Translation in Messages, the Notes app, Hold Assist, Call Screening, and Liquid Glass interface changes.
Apple says watchOS 26 supports Apple Watch Series 6 or later, Apple Watch SE 2nd generation or later, and all Apple Watch Ultra models, paired with an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26. Compatibility with the operating system does not mean every feature works on every supported watch.

Owners of an iPhone 15 or 16 do not automatically need to upgrade. The strongest reasons are a specific need for ProMotion, the Air’s thin design, the newer camera systems, professional video features, or a larger battery and storage configuration. Watch owners on Series 9 or later should likewise confirm regional availability and personal eligibility before treating hypertension notifications as a reason to replace an otherwise suitable watch.
Important limitations to check before buying
- eSIM: Verify carrier, prepaid, and international support before choosing iPhone Air.
- Apple Intelligence: Features may require a particular device, operating system, language, region, and sometimes a compatible iPhone nearby.
- Health features: Hypertension notifications and AirPods hearing tools are not diagnoses, direct blood-pressure measurements, or replacements for clinical care.
- 5G Apple Watch: Cellular service requires a supported carrier, plan, market, and compatible setup.
- Satellite services: Coverage and availability depend on location and service conditions.
- Battery estimates: Apple’s figures are controlled-use claims; real endurance changes with brightness, cellular signal, camera use, gaming, temperature, and battery health.
- AirPods translation: Live Translation requires compatible Apple Intelligence hardware, supported software and languages, and regional availability.
Apple’s official product announcements remain the best source for the launch specifications: iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, Apple Watch Series 11, and AirPods Pro 3.
