Apple is reportedly accelerating work on three AI-focused wearables: smart glasses, an iPhone-connected pendant or pin, and camera-equipped AirPods. Bloomberg’s reporting suggests all three are being designed to give Siri more visual and audio context. A later Bloomberg update said the camera-equipped AirPods had reached late-stage development, making them the most advanced of the projects. Apple has announced the Siri AI software direction, but it has not officially announced any of these three products, their names, prices, or release dates.
The short version
According to Bloomberg’s February 17, 2026 report, Apple is working on three new wearable categories built around Siri and visual intelligence:

- Smart glasses with cameras, microphones and speakers, reportedly without a display in the initial concept.
- An AI pendant or pin that could clip to clothing or hang from a necklace while using an iPhone for much of its processing.
- Camera-equipped AirPods intended mainly for environmental awareness and AI assistance rather than conventional photography.
These should be treated as reported development projects, not a confirmed product lineup. The evidence is also uneven. Bloomberg reported on May 7 that the camera-equipped AirPods had reached an advanced stage of development. By contrast, the pendant was reportedly still early-stage and could be canceled.

What Bloomberg reported
Bloomberg, citing people familiar with Apple’s plans, said the company was accelerating work on all three devices. The common idea is to make Siri more useful by giving it access to visual and audio context: what the wearer is looking at, where they are, what they are hearing and which task they are trying to complete.
That is different from saying Apple has completed the products or scheduled a launch. Apple had not publicly confirmed the reported hardware in the coverage available here. Prototype details can change substantially, and projects can be delayed or canceled before reaching consumers.
Reported Apple smart glasses: closer to Ray-Ban smart glasses than Vision Pro
The reported glasses should not be described as “Apple Vision glasses” or as an augmented-reality headset. The initial concept described in coverage of Bloomberg’s report reportedly has no display. That would make the product closer to camera-and-audio smart glasses than to Apple’s display-based Vision Pro.
According to 9to5Mac’s account of the reported details, the glasses could include:
- Speakers and microphones for voice interaction.
- A high-resolution camera for photos and video.
- A second camera intended for computer vision and environmental understanding.
- Potential Siri functions involving navigation, object recognition, Reminders and contextual assistance.
- Apple-designed frames in multiple sizes and colors.
Early prototypes reportedly used a cable-connected battery pack and iPhone, while newer prototypes embedded more components in the frame. That suggests Apple was still working through fundamental design questions involving weight, power, processing and connectivity.
The likely experience would be audio-first: ask Siri a question, let the cameras identify or interpret something in front of you, and hear the response through the glasses’ speakers. The absence of a display would reduce the complexity of the product, but it would also limit how much information can be presented privately and at a glance.
Apple versus Meta’s smart glasses
The most direct comparison is Meta’s existing Ray-Ban smart-glasses line, which already combines cameras, microphones, speakers and voice-assistant features in a conventional eyewear form factor.

Rank #2
- GET SMARTER HEALTH INSIGHTS—Apple Watch SE 3 is an advanced health tracker that helps you better understand your body. The smartwatch sends alerts for an irregular heart rhythm, or an unusually high or low heart rate.* You can view your overnight health tracking metrics with the Vitals app,* track your sleep score, and get sleep apnea notifications.*

Apple’s potential advantages would be iPhone integration, Siri, Apple Intelligence, Maps, Reminders and the company’s broader device ecosystem. Meta has the advantage of an established product category and market presence. Apple would therefore be entering an existing market, not inventing smart glasses from scratch.
Apple may also be pursuing glasses as a less radical alternative to another Vision Pro-style headset: a lighter, display-free product that adds ambient AI without placing a full computer screen over the user’s eyes.
The reported AI pendant or pin
The pendant is the least certain of the three projects. Earlier reporting summarized by 9to5Mac described a roughly AirTag-sized, thin and circular device, with aluminum-and-glass construction under consideration. It could be clipped to clothing or worn around the neck.
Reported hardware possibilities include:
- Two cameras.
- Three microphones.
- Possibly a speaker.
- No display or projector.
- Heavy reliance on an iPhone for processing and connectivity.
The product would reportedly act as an “eyes and ears” extension for Siri rather than as a standalone phone replacement. The speaker was said to be under debate, an important detail because a speakerless version might require AirPods for two-way conversations.

The comparison with the Humane AI Pin is useful only at the category level: both are screenless AI wearables. The reported Apple design differs in several important ways. It would reportedly depend heavily on the iPhone, would not use a projector-based interface and may function primarily as a sensor accessory for Siri rather than as an independent computer.
That iPhone dependency could make the pendant smaller and simpler, but it would also limit its usefulness when the phone is unavailable. It could require a compatible iPhone nearby for processing, network access and personal data.
The pendant also faces difficult social and privacy questions. A camera worn on clothing can be less obvious than one on a pair of glasses, making it harder for people nearby to know when visual analysis is active. Its final design and even its survival as a product remain uncertain; the project was reportedly early-stage and cancelable.

Why camera-equipped AirPods may arrive first
Bloomberg’s May 7 update that the camera-equipped AirPods had reached late-stage development is the strongest maturity signal attached to any of the three reported products. That does not guarantee a launch, but it separates the AirPods project from the more speculative pendant.

Possible functions include spatial awareness, translation, visual recognition and contextual assistance. The AirPods could work with an iPhone as part of a wider network of sensors.
“Camera-equipped” does not automatically mean “AirPods that record video.” The reported use case is closer to low-profile computer vision: cameras help Siri understand the wearer’s surroundings. Final sensor behavior, recording capabilities, privacy indicators and hardware design remain unconfirmed. The product could resemble existing AirPods Pro models, but its final appearance, name and specifications are not known.
AirPods may be the most practical of the three form factors because consumers already understand the category. Apple would not need to persuade buyers to wear an entirely new kind of device. It would still need to explain why cameras belong on earbuds, how they affect battery life and how nearby people can tell when the sensors are active.
Siri AI is now official—but the wearables are not
The February hardware reports make more sense in light of Apple’s June 8, 2026 announcement of Siri AI. Apple says the updated assistant can understand visual content, use personal context, recognize what is on a screen and support camera-based visual interaction. The company also says Siri AI works across products including iPhone, Apple Watch, CarPlay and AirPods.
This confirms the software direction behind the reported wearables: Apple is building toward an assistant that can interpret more than a spoken command in isolation. A camera on glasses, a pendant or AirPods could supply the missing context.
It does not confirm that any of those devices will ship. Apple’s official announcement did not establish names, designs, launch dates, prices or compatibility for the rumored products.

For Apple’s announced Siri AI software, the company lists support across selected newer hardware, including iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro models, newer iPads and Macs, Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. That is the compatibility information for the announced software—not a confirmed compatibility list for future wearables.
Why Apple may be pursuing three form factors
The product mix suggests Apple may be testing different answers to the same problem: how to make AI available without requiring users to take out a phone or look at a screen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Glasses: place the camera near the user’s field of view and provide hands-free audio, but require users to wear technology on their face.
- Pendant: avoids glasses and could appeal to people who want a separate wearable, but may be harder to aim and reportedly depends heavily on an iPhone.
- AirPods: use a familiar product category and provide audio interaction, but cameras on earbuds raise unusual privacy and power questions.
Bloomberg’s reporting framed the pendant and AirPods as alternatives for people who may not want a device on their face. That is an inference from the reported product mix, not an officially stated Apple market-segmentation plan.

Privacy and consent
Wearable cameras and microphones create questions Apple would need to answer before launch:
- How will nearby people know when recording or visual analysis is active?
- Are images processed on the device, on the iPhone or in the cloud?
- How long is visual data retained?
- Can third-party apps access the sensor streams?
- Will the products be restricted in schools, workplaces, hospitals or private venues?
No final privacy policy or sensor behavior for these unannounced products is verified. Buyers should not assume that Apple’s existing privacy messaging answers every question about future camera-equipped wearables.
Battery life
Always-on or frequently activated cameras, microphones, wireless connections and AI processing can consume substantial power. The important distinction will be whether cameras capture continuously or activate only after a command, how much processing happens locally, and how much is handled by the iPhone.
No battery figures are verified for the glasses, pendant or camera-equipped AirPods. Standby endurance and active AI-use endurance could also differ significantly.

Connectivity and compatibility
The pendant is reportedly designed to rely heavily on an iPhone. It may therefore be limited or unusable without a compatible phone nearby, with cellular access and much of the processing supplied by the phone rather than the wearable itself.
That could also mean Siri failures are caused by the phone, network access or account permissions rather than by the wearable hardware. Apple’s eventual compatibility requirements will matter as much as the industrial design.
Siri reliability
The usefulness of all three products depends on Siri interpreting context accurately and taking actions safely. Potential failure modes include misidentifying an object, giving an incorrect translation or navigation instruction, misunderstanding a private conversation as a command, or performing an unintended action.
Apple’s Siri AI announcement establishes the multimodal direction, but it does not demonstrate real-world performance on future wearable hardware.
Social acceptance
Smart glasses may be prohibited in some workplaces or venues. A visible camera on AirPods could make people uncomfortable, while a pendant may be less conspicuous but more difficult for the wearer to direct. Many users may prefer an audio-only experience, particularly if Apple cannot make recording status unmistakable.
What is known about timing?
- February 17, 2026: Bloomberg reported accelerated work on glasses, a pendant and camera-equipped AirPods.
- February 17, 2026: 9to5Mac reported that camera-equipped AirPods could arrive as early as 2026, while the pendant could arrive as early as 2027 but remained cancelable.
- May 7, 2026: Bloomberg reported that the camera-equipped AirPods had reached late-stage development.
- June 8, 2026: Apple officially announced Siri AI and expanded visual-intelligence capabilities.
- As of August 18, 2026: the reviewed sources had not established an official Apple announcement, final name, price or retail date for any of the three rumored wearables.
“Could launch as early as” is not the same as “will launch in.” Apple’s prototype work can change scope, slip beyond an estimated window or stop entirely.
Should you buy something now or wait?
- Need earbuds now: Buy current AirPods based on their available audio, call and ecosystem features—not on the expectation that a camera model is guaranteed.
- Want smart glasses now: Consider available Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses if you accept their camera-and-audio design and ecosystem. They are the closest existing comparison to Apple’s reported glasses.
- Want Apple-specific AI integration: Wait for an official Apple announcement rather than buying on rumor alone. There is no confirmed retail date or price to use for a purchase decision.
- Dislike wearable cameras: Avoid camera-equipped products until Apple explains recording indicators, processing and data retention in detail.
- Want an Apple wearable without a camera: Apple Watch remains an available ecosystem option through Apple’s Watch lineup, but it is not a substitute for the reported visual-AI products.
Final verdict
Apple appears to be moving toward ambient, camera-assisted AI hardware built around Siri. The three reported projects should not be treated as a single confirmed launch plan, however. Camera-equipped AirPods have the strongest development signal after Bloomberg’s late-stage report. The glasses look strategically important because they would challenge Meta without becoming a Vision Pro-style headset. The pendant is the most speculative and reportedly remains vulnerable to cancellation.
Recommended Free Tools
The clearest current conclusion is simple: Apple has officially shown the Siri AI software foundation, but the rumored hardware remains unannounced. Buy an existing product only if it meets your needs today; wait for Apple if the combination of iPhone integration, visual context and Siri is worth trading certainty for.
