Verdict: The Even Realities G1 is one of the most convincing attempts to make smart glasses look and feel like ordinary prescription eyewear. Its restrained green heads-up display, navigation, and excellent teleprompter concept are genuinely useful. But it is not a phone replacement or a camera-based AI assistant: advanced features depend heavily on the companion app, Bluetooth, internet access, and cloud services.
Buy the G1 if you specifically want information projected into your vision—especially for navigation, presentations, discreet notifications, or camera-free privacy. Avoid it if you mainly want calls, music, photography, visual AI, or a mature app ecosystem.

The short version
- Best for: prescription-glasses users, presenters, discreet navigation, and buyers who want a camera-free display.
- Not for: visual AI, calls, music, photography, broad third-party apps, or robust offline use.
- Core idea: a conventional-looking pair of glasses with a binocular, green monochrome HUD.
- Main compromise: the display is on your face, but much of the product logic remains on your phone.
The G1 is better understood as a sophisticated heads-up-display accessory than as a miniature smartphone. That distinction explains both its appeal and its limitations.
What is the Even Realities G1?
The G1 combines conventional-looking frames with optical waveguide displays, microphones, touch-sensitive temple controls, head gestures, and voice input. It has no camera. The official specification lists a 640×200 display, 25-degree field of view, 20Hz refresh rate, 1,000-nit brightness, green Micro LED output, automatic brightness control, Bluetooth 5.2, and two microphones. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements; see Even’s official G1 page.

- ASK YOUR GLASSES ANYTHING WITH META AI — Get real-time suggestions, answers, object identification, and reminders hands-free. Requires Bluetooth connection to your smartphone and the Meta AI app. Ensure your phone has internet connectivity.
This is not full-color augmented reality. The interface is deliberately limited to text, simple graphics, notifications, navigation prompts, translation, notes, teleprompting, and voice-based AI. That restraint is what allows the glasses to remain relatively discreet and socially conventional.
Design, comfort, and prescription lenses
Even uses magnesium frames with titanium and silicone components, adjustable nose pads, and customized prescription lenses. Independent reviews generally praised the construction, balance, and normal-eyewear appearance. The electronics are integrated into the temples, but the weight distribution is designed to avoid the front-heavy feeling associated with many smart glasses.
Hardware comfort and display comfort are different questions. The frame may feel like ordinary eyewear, while prolonged reading, navigation, or teleprompting can still become visually tiring. Fit also matters optically: if the glasses slide or the nose pads are incorrectly adjusted, the display may no longer sit in the ideal position.
Prescription buyers should verify their exact prescription range, pupillary distance, frame measurements, and lens options with Even before ordering. The company requires a valid, unexpired prescription signed by a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist. Custom prescription products may not be eligible for return or exchange except for manufacturing defects; review the purchase guidance before paying.
The display: impressive, but intentionally small
The G1 places green text and simple graphics in the wearer’s field of view while preserving normal vision. It is not an immersive AR canvas. You glance upward or adjust your head angle to bring up the dashboard, then return your attention to the real world.
This is the product’s strongest engineering achievement. The display is unusually compelling for glasses that still look broadly like glasses. Reviewers found it useful without the visual isolation of a headset, although bright sunlight can produce projector visibility or reflections. Automatic brightness adjustment helps, but outdoor users should not assume perfect readability in every condition.
The limited field of view is a trade-off rather than an oversight. It keeps the interface discreet, but it also means the G1 is best for short prompts and glanceable information—not long documents, video, maps with extensive context, or immersive graphics.
Features that matter
Navigation
After configuring a destination in the app, the G1 can show turn-by-turn information. This is particularly useful when walking or cycling because it reduces the need to look down at a phone. However, it is not an independent GPS device: setup and much of the processing depend on the phone, and independent testing criticized the limited information and lack of audio prompts.

Featuring upgraded Bluetooth technology, these smart glasses pair instantly and stably with all iOS and Android smartphones. Navigation can also become more intrusive than expected if prompts remain visible too continuously. It works best as a glanceable reminder, not as a replacement for a detailed map.
Teleprompt
Teleprompt is arguably the G1’s most convincing professional feature. You enter or upload a script through the app, adjust scrolling speed, and read several lines at a time. Even says the display shows approximately four to eight lines and can use speech tracking to match scrolling to your delivery; see the official FAQ.
In practice, bullet points are likely more natural than a complete script. A full script can encourage the wearer to read rather than speak. There is also an eye-line issue: a camera filming the presenter may make the user appear slightly cross-eyed or look away from the audience.
For presenters, educators, salespeople, performers, and anyone who regularly speaks in public, teleprompting may justify the G1 more convincingly than its AI assistant.
Translation
The glasses can listen to speech and show translated text. Even’s FAQ lists 22 supported languages, although Arabic, Hindi, and Bengali can be translated but are not displayed directly. Translation requires an internet connection.
Independent testing found one-to-one spoken translation useful but imperfect and delayed. It is also fundamentally one-way unless both people have an appropriate setup. Since the G1 has no camera, it cannot translate a menu, sign, or printed document simply because you are looking at it.
QuickNote and notifications
QuickNote lets you record spoken notes and later view them in the display. The dashboard can also show notifications, reminders, time, weather, and related information. Whether this is faster than using a phone depends on the situation: voice capture is convenient when your hands are occupied, but transcription quality can suffer in noise and editing is still easier on a phone.

(Auxiliary route guidance, prioritizing safe observation of the real-world environment.)
Even AI
The name “AI” needs careful qualification. G1 AI accepts voice input, but there is no camera. It cannot inspect an object, read a sign, analyze an image, or understand what you are looking at. That is a major difference from camera-equipped glasses such as Ray-Ban Meta.
AI responses can also be slow enough to undermine the hands-free promise, particularly when a task requires cloud processing. The G1 is better at showing prepared or short-form information than at sustaining a fast, conversational assistant experience.
Phone dependence is the central limitation
Setup normally involves installing the Even Realities app, pairing over Bluetooth, granting permissions for notifications, calendar, microphone, and location as needed, and configuring the features. Advanced functions are commonly initiated or managed through the app. Even says the G1 works with iOS and most Android phones, while firmware and app updates are delivered through the app.
That means the G1 is not self-contained. Translation needs internet access, navigation needs phone support, AI relies on cloud services, and a Bluetooth interruption can reduce the glasses to a much simpler display accessory. Buyers expecting completely hands-free computing should treat this as a deal-breaker, not a minor inconvenience.
Battery, charging, and durability
Even claims up to 1.5 days per charge, depending on usage. The wireless charging case can recharge the glasses 2.5 times, and a full charge typically takes two to three hours. “Up to 1.5 days” is a best-case manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed result during heavy navigation, teleprompting, translation, frequent AI queries, or many notifications.
The G1 is intended for splashes and light rain, not swimming, water sports, or prolonged water exposure. Treat it as eyewear with limited water resistance rather than as waterproof electronics. The official health and safety guidance also advises caution while driving and consultation with a medical professional or device manufacturer for users with pacemakers, hearing aids, insulin pumps, or other electronic medical devices.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Privacy: camera-free does not mean data-free
The absence of a camera is a meaningful advantage. The G1 cannot photograph people, identify objects visually, or scan documents from your point of view. That makes it easier to explain in workplaces and social settings than camera-equipped glasses.

Before relying on it for sensitive conversations, check app permissions and Even’s current privacy information. Consider what happens to voice notes and AI queries, whether recording indicators are visible, and whether a feature processes data locally or remotely. Even says the product uses encryption and complies with GDPR and CPRA, but those claims do not eliminate the need for sensible microphone etiquette.

Price and value
Accessible review coverage places the base price at approximately $599, with prescription lenses reported at roughly $129–$150 extra, clip-on sunglasses at about $100, and a translation subscription reported from $4.99 per month. These are price signals from cited coverage rather than a guaranteed live checkout total; verify the current price on Even’s product page.
The value calculation changes substantially for prescription users. If you already need new prescription glasses, the incremental cost of adding a useful display may be defensible. For someone with perfect vision, the G1 is harder to justify because its feature set is narrower than camera-and-audio alternatives.
G1 versus alternatives
Ray-Ban Meta: Better suited to calls, music, photography, and camera-based visual AI. It is the wrong choice if your priority is private text projected into the lens.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteRayNeo X3 Pro: A more ambitious full-color AR direction, but generally bulkier and more expensive than the G1. See the TechRadar review for the cited comparison.
Halliday Smart Glasses: Another camera-free, information-focused option. Compare display position, prescription support, battery life, software maturity, and availability rather than assuming the products are interchangeable.
Who should buy the Even Realities G1?
- Prescription-glasses users: Buy if a HUD is worth adding to eyewear you already need, after confirming prescription compatibility.
- Presenters: Strongest recommendation, particularly if discreet bullet-point prompting is more valuable than an AI assistant.
- Travelers: Useful for walking directions and spoken translation, provided internet access and phone dependence are acceptable.
- Privacy-conscious buyers: A compelling camera-free alternative, with the important caveat that microphones and cloud services remain.
- AI enthusiasts: Probably wait or choose camera-equipped glasses if visual understanding and fast conversation are priorities.
- Outdoor users: Test expectations against bright-sun reflections and limited weather resistance.
- Smartwatch replacements: Not recommended. The G1 is not a complete notification, communication, or app platform.
Final verdict
The Even Realities G1 gets closer than most smart glasses to the form factor people actually want: ordinary-looking eyewear that adds small amounts of information without isolating you from the world. Its display, physical design, navigation, and especially teleprompting are real strengths.
But the G1 is not the complete smart-glasses platform its marketing may suggest. It has no camera, no full-color AR, no independent cellular connection, limited third-party software, cloud-dependent features, slow AI in some situations, and substantial phone reliance. It is a credible everyday product for a specific audience—not a universal recommendation.
