It added expanded Tides map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China, plus the ability for Camera Remote to pause an iPhone video recording. Apple’s security advisory covers Apple Watch Series 6 and later, but that advisory range is not a complete installation-eligibility chart; watchOS 11.2 is a historical release, with later watchOS 11 versions listed by Apple.
What changed in watchOS 11.2?
Apple highlighted two user-facing changes in its watchOS 11 update history:
- The Tides app gained expanded map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China.
- Camera Remote can pause recording of iPhone video.
Apple’s descriptions do not establish broader regional coverage or support for every recording mode or camera app. The update also included security fixes described in Apple’s security advisory.
Tides maps expand in China
The Tides app gained expanded map support for tidal conditions and coastal locations in China. Apple describes this as a regional expansion, not worldwide coverage or a wholesale redesign of the app.

- S9 SiP Processor: Advanced processor improves overall performance and enables on-device Siri functionality.
Camera Remote can pause iPhone video
After the update, Camera Remote can pause recording of iPhone video. Apple’s summary does not specify that the control works with every camera mode or third-party recording app, so those broader claims should not be assumed.
Compatibility and hardware applicability
Apple’s security advisory identifies Apple Watch Series 6 and later as the hardware range applicable to the listed security issues. That advisory language is not a complete installation compatibility matrix for watchOS 11.2. Check Apple’s current device-specific requirements and the update offered for your watch and paired iPhone to determine what you can install.

These are technical summaries of potential vulnerabilities, not a consumer threat assessment. The advisory does not establish that every owner was targeted or that the issues were exploited. Apple also notes that some entries were added or updated after the release date, so not every advisory detail should be attributed to December 11, 2024.
Apple’s security documentation says: “For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available.” The advisory lists vulnerability entries and CVE identifiers, but does not provide a single complete issue total or an overall severity ranking for the release.
