Sotheby’s describes it as a 2,000-piece limited edition in tantalum and stainless steel. Collector reporting also associates Faldo with several other Royal Oak references, but those are distinct watches with different materials and stated edition sizes.
What is the Nick Faldo Royal Oak?
The Royal Oak Championship Edition, ref. 56175TT.OO.0789TT.01, is the clearest answer to a search for an “Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Nick Faldo.” Sotheby’s 2026 auction listing identifies a grey dial, 33 mm case, quartz calibre 2612, and a case and bracelet combining tantalum and stainless steel. Sotheby’s states that 2,000 pieces were produced. Sotheby’s lot 2526.
Sotheby’s says the edition was created to honor Faldo and commemorate his back-to-back major victories in the early 1990s. Its catalog description is the source for that association; it should not be treated as a first-person statement from Faldo or an official Audemars Piguet archive record.
What makes reference 56175TT distinctive?
Tantalum and stainless steel
The Championship Edition is not an all-steel Royal Oak: Sotheby’s describes its case and bracelet as a combination of tantalum and stainless steel. Sotheby’s catalog notes characterize tantalum as resistant to corrosion and wear, while also noting that it is difficult to machine and tool. The 2026 listing calls this combination the first use of steel and tantalum within the Royal Oak collection. Quartz movement and compact size
The cited 56175TT example is 33 mm and uses quartz calibre 2612, according to Sotheby’s. Those specifications distinguish it from the mechanical movements and larger cases often associated with other Royal Oak models; do not assume specifications from another reference apply to this watch.
Other Royal Oak references associated with Nick Faldo
Fratello’s 2009 collector article lists three additional Faldo-associated Royal Oaks. These references differ from the Championship Edition in material and stated edition size; Fratello’s figures are secondary-source reporting, not confirmed here against Audemars Piguet records. The differing counts do not conflict with the 2,000-piece figure for ref. 56175TT: they refer to separate references. Because the available information for these earlier watches comes from collector reporting, treat both the counts and accessory details as attributed claims rather than verified manufacturer specifications.
How many were made, and what is known about price?
Sotheby’s 2026 listing states that 2,000 examples of the 56175TT Championship Edition were produced. The 2026 Sotheby’s lot carried an estimate of 100,000–200,000 HKD. The listing says the auction closed, but the result is behind a login; the estimate therefore is not a confirmed sale price or a current market valuation. No current realized value is established by that listing.

Reference number alone is not enough to establish what a particular watch is, how it has been maintained, or what is included. Compare examples using the details below, and treat the resulting condition and price assessment as specific to that watch and sale.

- Reference and edition: Match the reference to the claimed materials, movement, dial, and edition; do not transfer specifications or production counts from one Faldo-associated model to another.
- Materials and components: Check the case, bezel, and bracelet against the description, particularly for a mixed-material example. Ask what evidence supports the identity of individual parts.
- Condition and service: Request the available service history and ask whether the movement has been tested. In the 2026 Sotheby’s listing, the movement had not been tested for timekeeping accuracy and might need service—a caution about that specific lot, not every 56175TT.
- Documentation and accessories: Establish what papers, provenance, and accessories actually accompany the example. Do not assume a reported golf-bag accessory is present with every watch.
- Price evidence: Distinguish an auction estimate, a seller’s asking price, and a completed sale with a disclosed result. They are different kinds of evidence.
Sotheby’s also cautions in the cited listing that it does not guarantee future working order or the authenticity of individual component parts after repairs or restoration. That limitation makes inspection and the documentation for the particular watch especially important. Sotheby’s lot 2526.
