The BALL Engineer Master II Skindiver II (reference DM3108A-SCJ-BK) is a modern dive watch with vintage styling, inspired by a 1962 Ball Skindiver. Time+Tide’s 2018 hands-on review describes a substantial 43 mm-wide, 14 mm-thick case, a COSC-certified BALL RR1103-C movement and a package with both rubber and steel bracelet options. Whether it is worth buying now depends on the condition, price and completeness of the individual listing: the review’s Australian price is historical, and BALL’s current catalog does not establish that this exact reference is still in production.

What is the BALL Engineer Master II Skindiver II?

The Skindiver II is a contemporary watch released in 2015, drawing on the design of a 1962 Ball Skindiver. It offers a vintage-inspired look without being a vintage watch itself. In the 2018 review, Cameron Wong describes its intended appeal as being for “anyone who wants a dive watch with a vintage look, but not the usual problems that buying vintage brings.” Time+Tide’s review is the source for the model history and the reviewer’s assessment.

How big is the Skindiver II?

The reviewed reference is listed at 43 mm wide and 14 mm thick. Those dimensions make it a relatively substantial watch; consider both measurements against watches you already find comfortable. The review does not establish lug-to-lug length or how the case wears across different wrist sizes, so the listed width alone cannot predict fit.

What does the review establish about its movement and equipment?

Time+Tide identifies the movement as BALL RR1103-C and states that it is COSC certified. That is the article’s specification for the model, not the result of an independent timing test of the reviewed sample.

  • Water resistant to 200 m (660 ft): In general, suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not scuba diving.

The reviewed package included a black rubber strap and a multilink steel bracelet with a folding clasp and small diver’s extension. Contents can vary with condition, seller and whether a watch is complete, so confirm that both are present in any particular sale listing rather than assuming they come with every example.

Is the Skindiver II worth buying today?

It may suit a buyer seeking a sizeable modern dive watch with vintage styling and the flexibility of rubber and bracelet wear. A purchase decision should turn on the specific watch in front of you: verify the reference, condition, included accessories and asking price. The available model review does not provide a current market valuation or establish the present availability of this reference.

The review listed an Australian price of $3,845 in 2018. That is a historical price, not a current quote or a reliable guide to today’s used-market value. BALL’s current Engineer Master II catalog includes Skindiver Heritage models, but those are distinct from the older Skindiver II and do not prove that reference DM3108A-SCJ-BK remains in production.

How to assess a listing for reference DM3108A-SCJ-BK

  1. Check the identity. Look for the full reference, DM3108A-SCJ-BK, and compare it with the watch and paperwork shown. Do not treat a Skindiver Heritage listing as the same model.
  2. Inspect condition and completeness. Ask for clear photos of the watch and any included strap, bracelet, clasp and diver’s extension. The review’s package is a useful point of comparison, not a guarantee about every sale.
  3. Evaluate the asking price on its own terms. The 2018 Australian figure cannot establish current value. Compare the actual condition and included items; no current price or verified merchant listing is established here.
  4. Confirm operating guidance for the exact reference. BALL’s 2025 owner manual gives family-level guidance that Engineer Master II Diver inner bezels use H3 micro gas tubes and that the crown must be screwed down before diving. Those points should not be assumed to describe this exact Skindiver II without confirmation in its reference-specific documentation. Consult the correct manual and have the watch’s condition checked before relying on it for diving.

How it differs from current BALL Skindiver Heritage watches

The Skindiver II discussed here is the older reference DM3108A-SCJ-BK; Skindiver Heritage models shown in BALL’s current catalog are separate watches. A useful comparison would verify the exact reference, case dimensions, movement and certification, water resistance, illumination system, included strap or bracelet, and current price and availability for each model. The available sources do not establish all those specifications for the Skindiver II, so they should not be inferred from a Heritage model or from family-level guidance.
