The Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze Brown pairs a compact 39 mm CuAl8 bronze case with a warm brown gradient dial and a black sapphire bezel insert. Baltic currently lists a 47 mm lug-to-lug length, 20 mm lugs, a Miyota 9039 automatic movement and 200 m water resistance. Its bronze is designed to develop patina, so the case’s appearance will change with use.
What makes the Bronze Brown distinctive?
The watch’s appeal lies in the contrast between warm, changing bronze and a darker bezel and dial treatment. The brown dial fades from a lighter center toward a darker minute track, while gilt-colored details pick up the warmth of the case. The black sapphire bezel insert adds a sharper visual boundary.
Those visual observations come from Rebecca Doulton’s hands-on review for Monochrome Watches, published 4 August 2023; they are reviewer impressions rather than an independent assessment here. Doulton also notes that the domed sapphire crystal can create distortion near the edges of the dial.

#1 Best Overall
- Material: CUSN8 bronze case, bezel, stainless steel case back, synthetic sapphire crystal, suede leather band, stainless steel buckle
| Specification | Baltic listing |
|---|---|
| Case and bezel | CuAl8 bronze |
| Case diameter | 39 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 47 mm |
| Thickness | 13 mm overall; 11 mm excluding the crystal |
| Lug width | 20 mm |
| Bezel | Unidirectional, 120 clicks, bronze with a sapphire insert |
| Crystal | Double-domed sapphire |
| Dial | Gradient brown with Super-LumiNova C1 |
| Movement | Automatic Miyota 9039 |
| Power reserve | 42 hours |
| Crown | Screw-down |
| Water resistance | 200 m / 20 ATM |
The 13 mm overall thickness includes the crystal; Baltic separately states 11 mm without it. Monochrome’s 2023 review lists a 12 mm case height, a different measurement, so the figures should not be treated as directly equivalent. The review also reports a 4 Hz beat rate, stop-seconds function and no date window.
How the bronze patina changes
Baltic says the CuAl8 copper-and-aluminum alloy will develop patina over time through contact and handling. This means the original bronze finish is not intended to remain fixed. Monochrome’s review describes the alloy as becoming less gold-colored over time and contrasts its patina with the greener appearance associated with standard copper-tin bronze.
Neither the manufacturer nor the cited review establishes a precise timetable, color, or uniform pattern for every watch. The eventual appearance depends on the individual watch’s use and exposure; there is no basis here to promise a particular result.
Size, straps and wearing considerations
The 39 mm diameter and 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement give useful reference points for judging fit, while the 20 mm lug width determines the strap width to look for. Baltic lists a vulcanized FKM rubber sport strap with a bronze buckle and says its straps fit this watch. Before choosing a third-party strap, confirm its width and attachment method, and check that its buckle works with the setup you want.

The crystal contributes to the published overall thickness: the manufacturer gives 13 mm with glass and 11 mm without it. On the dial, the double-domed sapphire and the reviewer-noted peripheral distortion are part of the visual character, but may matter to someone who prefers a flatter, less optically noticeable crystal.

The substantiated price is historical, not a current quote. Monochrome’s 13 April 2023 introduction gave a launch price of EUR 625 excluding tax, or EUR 750 including 20% VAT. That launch figure does not establish today’s price, regional tax treatment, stock, shipping cost or delivery timing. Check Baltic’s regional product page for current terms.
How it sits among the Bronze variants
Baltic’s product page also links the Aquascaphe Bronze Black and Blue Gilt. The cited information establishes these sibling names and the Brown model’s gradient brown dial with sapphire bezel insert; it does not establish a broader performance difference among the variants. Choose among them on the basis of the dial and bezel appearance, along with whether you want a bronze case that will change with wear.
