Reviews agree more on its basic specification than on its bracelet: one reviewer praises its comfort and finishing, while an owner-reviewer criticizes the bracelet and crown on his example. The main buying questions are which version you are considering, whether its bracelet and clasp suit you, and what it costs now; the cited prices below are historical, not current quotes.
What are the reported Contra A39 specifications?
The measurements and technical details below come from watch reviews, not an independently verified current manufacturer specification. The 2025 Mainspring review describes the Forest Green version; the 2024 Two Broke Watch Snobs review covers an earlier release.
| Specification | Reported details |
|---|---|
| Case | 39 mm diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug, 11.8 mm thick and 20 mm lug width, as reported by Mainspring in 2025. Two Broke Watch Snobs reported a 39 mm case and approximately 12 mm thickness in 2024. |
| Movement | Miyota 9039 automatic, no-date; 42-hour power reserve, reported by both reviews. Two Broke Watch Snobs gives 28,800 beats per hour; Mainspring describes it as 4 Hz. |
| Water resistance | 300 m, as reported by both reviews. A rating alone does not establish the condition or suitability of a particular used or new watch for a dive. |
| Crystal and bezel | Mainspring reports a double-domed sapphire crystal with two layers of inner anti-reflective coating, plus a 120-click bezel with a steel insert and lumed pip. |
| Bracelet details | Reports vary by release. The 2024 Two Broke Watch Snobs review describes quick-release spring bars, a 20-to-16 mm taper, micro-adjustment holes and a separate diver-extension clasp. Mainspring says its 2025 version made tool-less four-position micro-adjustment standard. |
For fit, the 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful alongside the 39 mm diameter: it gives a more complete sense of how much wrist space the case occupies. The 20 mm lug width also leaves open the option of a compatible third-party strap.
How do the dial versions and bracelet iterations differ?
The reviewed colorways span two release periods. Two Broke Watch Snobs covered Raisin Black and Charcoal Blue in 2024; Mainspring reviewed Forest Green and Polar White variants in 2025. Mainspring describes the later versions as retaining the basic specification package while receiving revised finishing and standard tool-less clasp adjustment.
#1 Best Overall
- Round watch featuring corrugated unidirectional bezel, luminous hands/markers, and magnified date window at 3 o'clock
- 40 mm, Length: 210mm, 23k gold-plated stainless steel case with mineral dial window. Movement Caliber: NH35A
- Japanese automatic movement with analog display
- Gold & Stainless steel tone bracelet with foldover clasp with safety closure
- Water resistant to 200 m (660 ft): In general, suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not scuba diving.
Do not assume every Contra A39 has the same clasp or bracelet setup. The earlier review describes adjustment holes and a separate extension clasp; the later one reports a four-position, tool-less mechanism. Tech Writer EDC also recounts receiving a clasp that did not match the reviewer’s order. If buying, confirm the exact version and what is included with the seller rather than relying on a general model description.
What do reviewers say about wearing it?
Opinions on the bracelet are notably different, and the available accounts are individual reviews rather than a controlled comparison. Nathan Schultz at Two Broke Watch Snobs calls the watch a “slow burner” and emphasizes its comfort, detail, bracelet and versatile styling. His assessment of the bracelet is positive.

Blair Witkowski at Tech Writer EDC reports a less satisfying experience with his Charcoal Blue preorder: he criticizes the bracelet feel and crown operation and describes a clasp mismatch in his order. He says changing to a rubber strap made a “huge difference” to his experience. That account is specific to his purchase and should not be treated as a universal verdict on every production version.
If considering a strap change, a 20 mm rubber watch strap is a plausible option based on the reported lug width and Witkowski’s experience. Check that the strap width and spring-bar or other attachment arrangement fit the particular watch; the strap is an optional third-party alternative, not a Belhamel component established by these reviews.

- Water resistant to 30 m (99 ft): In general, withstands splashes or brief immersion in water, but not suitable for swimming.
Is the Belhamel Contra A39 worth pursuing?
The Contra A39 merits a closer look if you want a relatively compact automatic sport/diver design and the reported combination of 39 mm sizing, 300 m water resistance and a Miyota 9039 appeals to you. The evidence is less conclusive on the detail most likely to shape daily satisfaction: bracelet and clasp feel. One reviewer found them comfortable and well finished; another disliked the bracelet and crown on his unit and preferred a rubber strap.
Before committing, identify the dial and release iteration, confirm the actual clasp and included components, and assess the current price and seller terms independently. The reviews document past offers and reviewer impressions; they do not establish current availability, warranty coverage or a manufacturer-confirmed specification sheet.
