Will the DTU Shield fit a smaller wrist?
The reported case width is 38 mm, the lug-to-lug span is 44.9 mm, and thickness is 10.7 mm. These figures describe a watch that is relatively compact on paper, but they cannot establish a universal fit verdict: wrist shape, strap adjustment, and personal preference all matter, and the sources do not report wrist-specific fit testing.
For a practical comparison, measure or check the dimensions of a watch you already find comfortable. Lug-to-lug length is particularly useful for comparing how far a watch’s ends may extend across your wrist; thickness helps you assess how much it may stand above it. Treat the DTU Shield’s published measurements as reference points rather than a promise that it will fit every smaller wrist.

How robust is its construction?
Gear Patrol describes a sandblasted stainless-steel case, double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, a screw-down crown, and a fabric strap. It reports 100 m water resistance. The Watch Resource also lists a 100 m rating. Together, these are concrete construction and specification details, but they are not evidence of destructive testing or a guarantee for every water activity.
The dial is described by Gear Patrol as vertically brushed, silver-toned metal, with Old Radium-colored Super-LumiNova. That gives the Shield a more finished, metallic look than a strictly utilitarian matte dial, while the sandblasted case and fabric strap retain field-watch cues. The sources identify a fabric strap but do not establish its lug width or approved replacement compatibility, so confirm those details before buying a substitute.

Is the DTU Shield a real military watch?
Benrus has documented military field-watch history, but that history should not be confused with the status of this modern product. Benrus’s official Japanese history says the company was founded in New York in 1921 by Benjamin Lazrus and his brothers, and records a 1964 military field-watch contract under MIL-W-3818. Nor should it be conflated with the historical DTU-2A/P or its later reissue. Benrus Japan says the DTU-2A/P reissue drew on period MIL-3818B materials and used a Swiss quartz movement, distinguishing it from the original mechanical watch. What does it cost, and what should you confirm before buying?
The Watch Resource’s 2026 review and Gear Patrol’s 2025 launch coverage both report a price of US$1,595. That is a reported review or launch figure, not a verified current price or confirmation of present availability. Check Benrus or an authorized seller for live pricing and stock before making a purchase decision.
Benrus’s US support page describes a 24-month warranty, with online registration able to extend coverage by an additional year. It also sets out authorized-service requirements and exclusions for straps and crystals. The page does not clearly establish that a DTU Shield-specific guide is available.
