Best Garmin vívoactive 5 Alternatives for Fitness and Everyday Use

The best alternative depends first on your phone and whether you need GPS built into the watch. Choose the Garmin Venu 3 if you want to stay with Garmin while adding features such as on-wrist calls and voice-assistant support; consider the Amazfit Active 2 for a lower-cost GPS smartwatch; and look at the Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 for basic activity tracking if you do not need built-in GPS. For iPhone integration, an Apple Watch may fit more naturally, but confirm the current model and compatibility before buying.

What the vívoactive 5 already offers

The vívoactive 5 is a useful baseline: Garmin describes it as an AMOLED fitness smartwatch with built-in GPS, health monitoring, sleep and stress features, Garmin Pay, music storage, and Android and iOS support. Garmin lists up to 11 days of smartwatch battery life, or up to 5 days with the display always on. Those are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results. Garmin’s Singapore product page also says the watch is not a medical device.

Garmin’s version 8 owner manual, dated September 2025, estimates up to 21 hours in GPS-only mode, 17 hours using all-systems GNSS, and 8 hours using all-systems GPS with music. Garmin cautions that actual battery life depends on enabled features, including activity tracking, wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS, and connected sensors. These estimates use different modes and should not be treated as a direct comparison with another watch’s everyday runtime. Garmin vívoactive 5 owner manual: battery life.

Best alternatives by what you want to change

Garmin Venu 3: more smartwatch functions in Garmin’s ecosystem

The Venu 3 is the clearest fit if you like Garmin but want more everyday interaction from your wrist. Android Authority identifies on-wrist phone calls, voice-assistant support, and an ECG app as features distinguishing it from the vívoactive 5. The outlet describes the Venu 3 as higher-priced, but that pricing may no longer reflect current local listings. Check regional price and availability, and confirm that the specific feature you want works with your phone and location. Android Authority’s vívoactive 5 review.

Amazfit Active 2: a budget GPS smartwatch

The Amazfit Active 2 is worth considering if you want a lower-cost smartwatch with GPS and workout tracking. TechRadar’s iPhone smartwatch guide describes it as having an AMOLED screen and GPS; its reviewer reported more than five days of use during a heavy-use test and found it comfortable. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed runtime or a controlled comparison with the vívoactive 5. Your settings and use can change battery life. TechRadar’s iPhone smartwatch guide.

Samsung Galaxy Fit 3: basic tracking, but no built-in GPS

The Galaxy Fit 3 may suit gym sessions, classes, and light running when you want a budget activity tracker rather than a full GPS smartwatch. TechRadar reports up to 13 days of battery life and specifically notes that the Fit 3 has no built-in GPS. For outdoor routes, distance, and pace without carrying your phone, that is a significant limitation; a tracker without its own GPS may rely on connected-phone GPS instead. TechRadar’s guide contains conflicting iPhone-compatibility information, so do not assume it will work fully with an iPhone: verify support for your exact regional model before purchasing. Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch: consider the phone ecosystem first

Android Authority’s vívoactive 5 review also names Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 10, and Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 as alternatives. Those model references do not establish which is the latest choice or best value now. Use them as starting points for comparing ecosystems, then check the current model, phone compatibility, regional feature availability, and local price. TechRadar characterizes Apple Watch as a natural choice for iPhone integration and everyday conveniences, while Garmin can offer longer battery life and more structured training tools. That is an editorial comparison, not a guarantee for every model or wearer. Android Authority’s review; TechRadar’s iPhone smartwatch guide.

How to choose the right replacement

  1. Start with your phone. Check compatibility for the exact watch and phone combination. Basic pairing does not guarantee that replies, health features, or apps will be available.
  2. Decide whether you need GPS without your phone. For recording outdoor routes, distance, and pace phone-free, choose a model with built-in GPS. A tracker that lacks it may still cover indoor workouts or use GPS from a connected phone.
  3. Compare battery figures on like-for-like terms. Separate everyday smartwatch estimates from GPS or GPS-plus-music runtime, and distinguish manufacturer estimates from reviewer reports. Always-on display, GPS, music, notifications, and health sensors can all affect runtime.
  4. Match tracking depth to your routine. Everyday activity, sleep, and wellness tracking are not the same as structured training analysis or sport-specific tools. Choose the level of detail you will use rather than assuming more metrics are automatically better.
  5. List the wrist features you actually need. Calls, notifications, payments, apps, and voice assistants vary by model and phone. The Venu 3’s call and assistant functions are a reason to consider it if those are priorities.
  6. Check total ownership details before paying. Verify current local price, availability, any subscription requirements, and whether the functions you want are supported in your region. The cited guides do not provide a current, like-for-like total-cost comparison.
  7. Think about comfort. A watch or tracker only helps if you will wear it consistently; consider how it feels during workouts, sleep, and ordinary daily use.

What the available comparisons can—and cannot—tell you

The cited product pages and buying guides describe features and report individual battery estimates or reviewer experiences. They do not establish a controlled, common-protocol head-to-head test of all these alternatives, nor do they establish that one has more accurate health measurements. Treat battery figures as specific to the source and conditions stated, and compare the functions that matter to your own routine.
