Best LTE smartwatches in 2025 at a glance

| Samsung phones | Samsung Galaxy Watch7 LTE | Android; best with Samsung | $349.99–$379.99 | Typically more than small Apple or Pixel models | LTE and GPS can reduce endurance quickly |
| Rugged Android use | Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra | Android; best with Samsung | $649.99 | Best mainstream Android endurance here | Bulky and costly |
| Pixel and Fitbit users | Google Pixel Watch 3 LTE | Android 10 or newer; no iPhone | About $499 for the larger model | Usually daily charging | Same-carrier requirement for full cellular functionality |

LTE lets a watch make calls, send messages, stream music, use maps, receive notifications and access selected apps without a nearby phone. It does not turn the watch into a full smartphone, eliminate the need for a phone plan, or guarantee connectivity outside cellular coverage. The 2025 shortlist is concentrated around Apple, Samsung and Google; Garmin was a notable omission from conventional LTE smartwatch recommendations during the year. Wareable’s 2025 LTE smartwatch overview provides additional market context.

A cellular watch contains its own mobile-radio hardware and eSIM service. When it has an active plan and adequate signal, it can operate away from the phone for selected tasks:

- Contact emergency services and share location, where the feature and region support it.
“Standalone” is therefore shorthand for phone-free for selected tasks, not a complete phone replacement. The watch may still need the paired phone for initial setup, software updates, account management, authentication, syncing and some app functions. A watch can be connected through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or direct LTE; those are different operating conditions and do not provide identical functionality.
Does an LTE watch have its own phone number?
Usually, people still call and text the phone’s number. Carrier services generally use number sharing or number syncing, although the exact behavior varies by carrier and country. Google says a Pixel Watch shares the paired phone’s number after activation while still requiring separate cellular service. Google’s calling and SMS guidance explains the requirements.
Check compatibility before comparing features
Phone compatibility comes first. An Apple Watch is not an Android watch, and a Pixel Watch is not an iPhone accessory.
- iPhone: Apple Watch Series 10 Cellular or Apple Watch Ultra 2.
- Samsung Galaxy phone: Galaxy Watch7 LTE or Galaxy Watch Ultra.
- Google Pixel phone: Pixel Watch 3 LTE or Galaxy Watch7 LTE.
- Other Android phone: Check the exact Android version, model and feature restrictions before buying.
Google lists Android 10 or newer for Pixel Watch 3 compatibility and explicitly says iPhones are not supported. Google’s compatibility and LTE activation requirements should be treated as the authority for setup and network questions. Samsung health features can also favor Samsung phones, even where basic watch compatibility extends to other Android devices.
Best overall LTE smartwatch for iPhone: Apple Watch Series 10 GPS + Cellular
The Apple Watch Series 10 GPS + Cellular is the best balance of size, health tracking, apps, safety features and everyday phone-free convenience for most iPhone owners.
It handles calls, messages, notifications, payments, maps and third-party apps particularly well within Apple’s ecosystem. It comes in multiple sizes and is lighter and less bulky than the Ultra 2. Apple lists the S10 chip, ECG support, LTE/UMTS connectivity and GPS + Cellular configurations on its official comparison page.
Its compromise is endurance. Treat it as a daily-charge watch, particularly if you use LTE calls, GPS workouts, music streaming or an always-on display. Contemporary 2025 comparison coverage put cellular pricing at roughly $499 for the smaller case and $529 for the larger one; exact price depends on size, finish and retailer. Tom’s Guide’s comparison is a useful historical pricing reference.

Best rugged LTE smartwatch for iPhone: Apple Watch Ultra 2
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the stronger iPhone choice for hiking, diving, running, cycling and outdoor work. Its titanium case, larger battery, Action button, siren, brighter display, advanced GPS features and stronger water and dust resistance justify the premium for users who will actually use them.
Cellular connectivity is standard on the Ultra line. Apple identifies GPS + Cellular, titanium construction, ECG support, LTE/UMTS connectivity and the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip in its comparison material.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The watch is large and heavy, can be uncomfortable on smaller wrists and remains a charging-dependent smartwatch rather than a multi-week sports watch. Its 2025 U.S. pricing position was around $799. That is a historical reference, not a claim about current 2026 retail pricing.
Buy it if: you want the toughest Apple Watch and will benefit from the extra battery and outdoor hardware.
Skip it if: you mainly need notifications, sleep tracking and occasional calls. The Series 10 is lighter and more sensible.
Best mainstream LTE smartwatch for Samsung users: Samsung Galaxy Watch7 LTE
The Samsung Galaxy Watch7 LTE is the best everyday cellular smartwatch for Samsung Galaxy owners and one of the safest Android recommendations overall. It combines Wear OS apps, Google services, health tracking, conventional smartwatch design and two case sizes without the price or bulk of the Ultra.
Samsung’s U.S. June 2025 MSRP schedule listed the 40mm LTE model at $349.99 and the 44mm LTE model at $379.99, a $50 cellular premium over the corresponding Bluetooth versions. Samsung’s MSRP document is the relevant historical source.

Battery life is generally more practical than that of the smallest Apple or Pixel watches, but LTE, GPS workouts, weak signal, streaming and an always-on display can still drain it quickly. Some advanced Samsung health features may require a Samsung phone or Samsung Health setup.
Buy it if: you use a Galaxy phone and want calls, music, maps and notifications without carrying the phone every time.
Choose Galaxy Watch Ultra instead if: you need a larger, tougher case and more endurance for outdoor use.
Best rugged Android LTE smartwatch: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra is the Android equivalent of an outdoor-first cellular smartwatch. It offers LTE, a larger and tougher design, stronger outdoor positioning, dual-frequency GPS and a larger battery than the standard Watch7.
It is a good fit for Android runners, hikers, cyclists and Samsung owners who want phone-free navigation, calls and music but do not want an Apple Watch. Samsung’s June 2025 U.S. MSRP listed it at $649.99. See Samsung’s price schedule.
The trade-off is size. It can be too bulky for small wrists, sleep tracking and ordinary office wear. Its endurance is better than mainstream Wear OS rivals, but it is not comparable to a non-cellular specialist sports watch that lasts for weeks. Samsung phones are also the safest choice for the complete feature set.
Best LTE smartwatch for Pixel and Fitbit users: Google Pixel Watch 3 LTE
The Google Pixel Watch 3 LTE is the best choice for users who prefer Google’s software, Pixel phones and Fitbit’s health ecosystem. Its clean Wear OS interface works with Google Maps, Wallet, Assistant and compatible apps, while the LTE model supports calls, texts, data, music and emergency services when properly activated.

- Stay connected to family and friends with calls, texts, and email, and stream music, podcasts, and audiobooks on the go, even when you don’t have your phone
- Always-on Retina display has nearly 20% more screen area than Series 6, making everything easier to see and use than ever before
- The most crack-resistant front crystal yet on an Apple Watch, IP6X dust resistance, and swimproof design just to name a few awesome features
- Take an anytime, anywhere - Get high and low heart rate, and irregular heart rhythm notifications - Measure your blood oxygen with a powerful sensor and app
- Track your daily activity on Apple Watch, and see your trends in the Fitness app - Stay in the moment with the new Mindfulness app, and reach your sleep goals with the Sleep app
The most important catch is carrier matching: Google says full talk, text and data functionality generally requires the watch and its Android companion phone to use the same carrier network. The watch also needs its own activated cellular service. An unlocked watch is not the same thing as universal carrier compatibility.
The Pixel Watch 3 is compact and polished but usually a daily-charge device, especially with LTE and workouts. 2025 comparison coverage put the larger LTE version at approximately $499, although promotions changed over time. Check the official product page for current availability rather than treating that figure as a present-day price.
Best budget LTE option: Samsung Galaxy Watch FE LTE
The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE LTE is worth considering when its discount is substantial. Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP listed the LTE model at $249.99. Samsung’s March price file provides the historical reference.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →It delivers cellular connectivity and access to Samsung’s smartwatch ecosystem, but its older hardware, smaller battery and shorter expected software runway make it a cautious recommendation. If a discounted Galaxy Watch7 LTE is only slightly more expensive, the newer model is likely the better long-term purchase.
Buy it if: the price is clearly lower and your needs are limited to calls, messages, notifications, basic fitness and occasional phone-free use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is LTE worth the extra cost?
LTE is worthwhile if you regularly run, cycle, hike or exercise without a phone; leave the phone at home for errands; need location sharing; or want a backup way to contact family or emergency services. It is also useful for people who frequently forget or misplace their phone.
LTE is probably unnecessary if your phone is always nearby and you mainly want notifications, sleep tracking, steps or heart-rate data. Bluetooth/Wi-Fi versions avoid the recurring cellular charge and may deliver longer battery life.

Do not assume a specific monthly fee: carrier pricing, eligibility and plan rules change. The Galaxy Watch7’s documented 2025 cellular premium was $50, but the service charge is a separate ongoing cost.
Battery life: what to realistically expect
Manufacturer “up to” figures are not standardized. Apple, Google and Samsung use different test conditions, and Apple distinguishes Bluetooth-connected use from on-demand cellular use in its comparison material. Apple’s comparison page illustrates why headline figures should not be compared directly across brands.
Plan around these practical expectations:
- Series 10: generally daily charging.
- Pixel Watch 3: generally daily charging, especially with LTE and exercise tracking.
- Galaxy Watch7: often better endurance than the smallest Apple or Pixel models, but LTE still adds significant drain.
- Galaxy Watch Ultra: the better Android option for endurance and outdoor use, but not a multi-week watch.
- Ultra 2: better Apple Watch endurance, though still far shorter than dedicated long-battery sports watches.
The biggest battery penalties usually come from weak signal, long calls, streaming music without the phone, GPS plus LTE, frequent notifications, always-on displays and extreme temperatures.
Carrier and activation checklist
Check all of the following before ordering:
- Does your carrier support the exact watch model and regional version?
- Is your phone compatible with that watch?
- Does your specific phone plan support number sharing or a smartwatch line?
- Is the watch and phone required to be on the same carrier?
- Are prepaid, MVNO, business and family plans eligible?
- Are international roaming and emergency calling supported where you need them?
- Will the carrier charge activation, multi-device or plan-upgrade fees?
- Can you activate a bring-your-own-device watch, or must it be purchased from the carrier?
Common activation failures include an unsupported plan, an imported watch, different carriers for phone and watch, prepaid restrictions, a full multi-device limit, eSIM errors or corporate-account restrictions. If activation fails, confirm eligibility with the carrier, verify the watch’s intended region, update the manufacturer’s phone app and repeat setup through the official app rather than assuming the hardware is defective.
Emergency and safety features
LTE can make emergency calling, fall detection, crash detection, SOS alerts and location sharing more useful when the phone is absent. It is not a guarantee of service: the watch still needs battery, signal and a supported feature in your region. Some functions can use a nearby phone or Wi-Fi, while others require cellular connectivity.
Google specifically notes that emergency functionality differs between LTE and non-LTE Pixel Watch models; without 4G LTE, a paired phone may need to be nearby for some emergency functions. Google’s emergency-function guidance explains the distinction.
These watches are not replacements for a satellite communicator, satellite SOS device or professional medical-alert system. Nor should an adult smartwatch automatically be treated as a child-tracking watch: check family setup, carrier costs, location behavior, school rules, battery life and whether the child can disable or remove it.
LTE versus Bluetooth/Wi-Fi: which should you buy?
- Choose Bluetooth/Wi-Fi if you rarely leave your phone behind and want lower ownership cost and potentially longer battery life.
- Choose LTE if phone-free workouts, errands, streaming, calls or safety communication are recurring needs.
- Choose a rugged LTE model if you need extra battery, durability and outdoor controls—not merely because it is marketed as the premium option.
- Choose a specialist sports watch instead if your priority is multi-day or multi-week battery life and you can live without conventional LTE calling and app connectivity.
Alternatives when LTE is not essential
Bluetooth-only versions of the same Apple, Samsung and Google watches are the simplest alternative. Garmin may be a better choice for long battery life and specialist training analysis, but conventional Garmin LTE was not part of the mainstream 2025 shortlist. A satellite communicator is more appropriate for remote areas without cellular coverage, while a dedicated medical-alert or child-tracking product may better fit those specific safety needs.
