The Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Squelette 5395 puts an unusually open mechanical display into a case Breguet lists at just 7.7 mm thick. Its automatic calibre 581SQ is specified at 3 mm thick, with a tourbillon, 80-hour power reserve and 4 Hz frequency. The result is a watch whose appeal rests on the contrast between compact proportions and a movement made to be seen—not on any independently established timing or wear test.

What is the Breguet 5395?

The 5395 is a skeletonised, automatic tourbillon in Breguet’s Classique collection. Breguet currently lists two versions: 18K rose gold, reference 5395BR/1S/9WU, and platinum, reference 5395PT/RS/9WU. Both have a 41 mm case, 7.7 mm overall thickness, 21 mm lug width and stated water resistance of 3 BAR. The specifications below come from Breguet’s rose-gold product page and platinum product page.

Specification 5395BR/1S/9WU 5395PT/RS/9WU

Power reserve 80 hours 80 hours

Breguet also specifies a flat silicon balance spring and hollow apple-shaped steel hands. The dimensions, precious-metal cases and alligator straps suggest a slim dress-style complicated watch, but that is an interpretation of the listed design and specifications, not a manufacturer category. A 3 BAR rating is not a swimming recommendation.

What makes the 581SQ unusual?

A slim movement with an exposed architecture

The calibre’s listed 3 mm thickness is the key to the “Extra-Plat” idea: the complete watch is 7.7 mm thick despite housing an automatic tourbillon. Breguet describes the movement’s layout as a rethinking of the tourbillon’s conception, then opens it further through skeletonisation. The bridges and components are part of the visual composition rather than hidden beneath a conventional dial.

Skeletonisation as a finishing exercise

Breguet says it removed “50% of the material” from the movement. That is the maison’s description; no independent measurement of the removed material is established here. The brand lists engraving, guilloché, bevelling and polishing among the crafts applied to the watch. These details matter because skeletonisation removes visual cover, making the shape and surface treatment of the remaining structure central to the display.

Tourbillon, frequency and cage weight

Breguet describes the tourbillon as placing the escapement and balance wheel in a mobile cage, a complication it calls one of the House’s emblems. The current product page lists the 581SQ at 4 Hz and an 80-hour reserve. Swatch Group’s 2019 archive describes the cage as weighing 0.290 g and characterises 4 Hz as particularly high for a tourbillon; these are the group’s published statements, not independent measurements in this review. See the 2019 Swatch Group archive entry.

How does the 5395 fit into Breguet’s tourbillon line?

The 5395 follows earlier Classique tourbillon references rather than standing in isolation. Swatch Group’s archive connects calibre 581 with the 5377 and 5367. Monochrome’s 2019 coverage frames the 5395 alongside the 5367, unveiled in 2018 with an enamel dial, and the 5377, introduced in 2014 with a guilloché dial and power-reserve indicator. Those models provide context for Breguet’s changing presentation of the tourbillon, but the available information does not establish that they share all specifications or the 5395’s visual treatment.

There is also a component-count discrepancy worth keeping visible: Breguet’s current English product listings give 327 components for the 581SQ, while Monochrome’s dated review reports 325 components and 33 jewels. These figures should not be merged or treated as a correction without confirming the movement version and the sources’ contexts.

Video and what it can show

Breguet’s official film, “Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Squelette 5395”, was published on 24 May 2019. It offers a manufacturer-produced view of the open movement and finishing; it is promotional footage, not independent inspection or a wear test.

Price, availability and what the specifications do not tell you

The retrieved Breguet product pages do not show a numeric retail price and direct readers to contact a point of sale. They do not establish current stock or regional availability, so price and availability need to be confirmed with Breguet or an authorised dealer in the buyer’s market. The available evidence also does not establish measured timekeeping performance, independent movement inspection or hands-on comfort. For ownership information, Breguet provides an official 5395 instruction manual.
