How does the Premier B01 look?
The design balances a traditional chronograph layout with details that keep it from reading like a purely utilitarian sports watch. The dial is bi-compax, with two sub-registers; rectangular pushers, grooves along the case sides and an open sapphire caseback reinforce its vintage-leaning character. Breitling presents the Premier as a line Willy Breitling designed in the 1940s for watches devoted purely to style. That is the brand’s account of its heritage.

WatchTime’s March 24, 2023 hands-on coverage connects the design to the Premier Ref. 777 from 1945. Its description notes a tachymeter, extended minute-counter markings, a sunray dial, polished applied numerals and fluted case sides. These observations provide useful design context, but are not a substitute for inspecting the specific reference in person.
What changed in the 2023 revision?
Hodinkee’s March 21, 2023 introduction described the revised steel model as having applied Arabic numerals instead of baton markers, syringe-style hands, a changed sub-register layout and “Chronograph Premier” dial text. It reported five dial colors—black, blue, salmon, green and cream—and a bracelet option. These are launch-era details; configurations can vary by reference and may change, so check Breitling’s current listing before assuming a color or bracelet is available.
What does the B01 movement offer?
Breitling specifies an automatic Manufacture Caliber 01 with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, a 1/4-second chronograph indication and a 30-minute counter. It lists a frequency of 28,800 v.p.h. and 41 jewels, and describes the caliber as a COSC-certified chronometer.

WatchTime’s 2023 account says the revised B01 uses a column wheel and vertical clutch. It describes the COSC certification context as a rate range of −4 to +6 seconds per day; that is a certification range, not a timing result for every individual watch. Fratello’s reviewer reported smooth, easy chronograph operation and noted hacking and quick-set date functions on the reviewed example. Those are that reviewer’s handling observations, not independent testing of this article’s watch.

The manufacturer lists a 42 mm diameter and 13.65 mm thickness, but those figures alone cannot predict fit: wrist shape, strap position and personal preference matter. Fratello’s reviewer measured roughly 50 mm lug to lug and said the downward-curving lugs helped the watch hug the wrist despite its diameter. Treat that as an attributed measurement and one wearer’s impression, rather than a formal Breitling dimension or a guarantee it will suit every wrist.
Fratello’s reviewer liked the strap and deployant clasp but thought the crown looked oversized. WatchTime described good daytime legibility and reported that the beige-toned Super-LumiNova on the large hands glowed at night. The date sits at six o’clock, and the display back reveals the movement. These are reviewers’ impressions of the watches they handled.

Which strap fits this reference?
Breitling lists a 22 mm lug width for AB0118221B1X2 and supplies it with a curved anthracite calfskin strap. A 22 mm width is a starting point for replacement straps, not proof that any strap will fit: the supplied strap is curved, and end shape, thickness and clasp compatibility can also matter. The Premier family includes bracelet and other leather configurations, but availability depends on the reference.
How should you assess its value against other chronographs?
Fratello placed the Premier in the USD 7,000–10,000 chronograph landscape at the time of its review, naming the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and Zenith Chronomaster El Primero as comparison points and the Rolex Daytona as a more expensive reference in the markets discussed. That is historical framing, not a current, like-for-like price comparison.
For a present-day decision, compare specific references using the same market and date. Focus on case diameter, thickness and lug-to-lug fit; movement and reserve; chronograph architecture and functions; water resistance; dial readability; strap or bracelet configuration; and current local price. The available coverage does not establish current competitor prices, so older figures should not be treated as today’s buying guide.
How do 2023 launch prices compare with today’s listing?
Launch coverage helps explain historical pricing but should not be mistaken for current MSRP. Hodinkee reported US launch-era prices of USD 9,100 on strap and USD 9,500 on bracelet in 2023. WatchTime reported German launch-era prices of EUR 8,600 on crocodile strap and EUR 8,950 on steel bracelet in March 2023. These figures refer to different configurations and markets from Breitling’s current US listing.
