Bulgari Diagono Scuba Review: History, Specs and 2015 References

Bulgari’s 2015 Diagono Scuba came in four 41 mm configurations with a BVL 191 automatic movement and stated 300 m water resistance. Here’s how the references differ—and what that rating means for a used watch.

The Bulgari Diagono Scuba is a 41 mm luxury sports watch with a distinctly Italian design and a manufacturer-stated water resistance of up to 300 metres. Bulgari’s 2015 catalog lists four versions, all with the automatic BVL 191 Solotempo movement, instantaneous date and a 42-hour power reserve. Those figures describe the model—not the present condition of a particular pre-owned watch.

What is the Bulgari Diagono Scuba?

The Scuba is the nautical interpretation of Bulgari’s Diagono sports-watch line. Its appeal rests on a combination of a substantial stated dive-watch rating, varied precious-metal and steel configurations, and the Diagono’s distinctive strap-attachment design. Bulgari’s historical description presents it as a watch intended to move between sport and more formal settings; that is brand positioning, not independent evidence of comparative performance.

The design’s history has two dates that should not be confused. The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) dates the nautical Diagono introduction to 1994. Bulgari’s 2016 brochure separately attributes the tube-and-screw strap connection to a 1988 design rethink. The latter is about Diagono design history, not the Scuba’s launch. GPHG’s Diagono Scuba history and Bulgari’s 2016 Diagono brochure provide those respective accounts.

What changed for the 2015 generation?

Bulgari presented a new four-version Diagono Scuba in 2015, using its BVL 191 Solotempo automatic calibre. A contemporary review described the redesign as retaining key elements of the original while giving the watch a cleaner dial and a simplified rubber strap. That is period editorial context rather than a hands-on assessment here. Time and Watches’ 2015 coverage discusses the redesign.

2015 Bulgari Diagono Scuba specifications

Bulgari’s 2015 catalog gives the following core specifications for the four configurations it lists:

  • Case diameter: 41 mm.
  • Movement: automatic BVL 191 Solotempo mechanical manufacture movement.
  • Functions: hours, minutes, seconds and instantaneous date.
  • Power reserve: 42 hours.
  • Water resistance: stated by Bulgari as up to 300 metres.

The GPHG record for reference 102324 specifies a 41 mm steel case, 10.75 mm thickness, self-winding movement, 42-hour power reserve and 300 m stated water resistance, with hours, minutes, seconds and date functions. Those dimensions and details are tied to that recorded reference; do not assume every Scuba configuration has the same case thickness. The catalog and GPHG records are available in Bulgari’s 2015 Watches Catalogue and the GPHG reference entry.

How the four catalog references differ

Bulgari’s 2015 catalog lists the following combinations. Match the full reference number and configuration when comparing listings; GPHG’s separate designation 102324 should not be treated as interchangeable with these DP41 catalog references without further documentation.

Catalog reference Case and dial Bracelet or strap
DP41BSVSD 41 mm steel case; black dial Rubber strap with ardillon buckle
DP41BSSSD 41 mm steel case; black dial Steel bracelet
DP41WSPGSD 41 mm steel and 18 kt pink gold case; silver opaline dial Two-tone steel and pink gold bracelet
DPP41BGVSD 41 mm 18 kt pink gold case; black dial Rubber strap with 18 kt pink gold ardillon buckle

The practical distinction is primarily one of material, dial appearance and how the watch is fastened: the catalog offers steel or precious-metal cases, black or silver opaline dials, and rubber or metal options. The sources do not establish a universally preferable version or comparative comfort.

Does 300 metres mean a used Scuba is ready for diving?

No. The 300 m figure is Bulgari’s stated specification for the model, not a current water-resistance test of an individual watch. The cited records do not establish the service history, seal condition or present performance of any particular example, nor do they establish a formal dive-watch standard certification.

For a pre-owned watch intended for water use, verify the exact reference and ask a qualified watch service provider to assess the watch and perform a current water-resistance test. A model’s original rating cannot establish the condition of an older watch by itself.

What to check when buying a pre-owned Diagono Scuba

  1. Identify the exact reference. Compare the complete number with the case material, dial and bracelet or strap; do not assume the GPHG designation 102324 is the same as a DP41 catalog reference.
  2. Confirm what is included. Check whether the watch has its original bracelet or strap and buckle, especially if the listing’s photos or description show a configuration different from the catalog reference.
  3. Ask for service and test documentation. For water use, seek a recent water-resistance test for that specific watch and clarify who performed it. No general model specification substitutes for that evidence.
  4. Assess the individual watch’s condition. Case, crown, seals, movement and service history are listing-specific; the model records do not establish the condition or value of any example currently offered.

Neither current retail availability nor resale pricing is established by the cited sources. GPHG displays a launch-era price of 5,900 CHF excluding VAT for its listed reference, but that historical figure is not a current market price.
