Swimming depends on the water-resistance marking on your exact Edifice watch; for showering, take it off. Casio’s everyday-use guidance says watches marked 5BAR, 10BAR, or 20BAR are suitable for swimming, while a watch with no BAR mark is not. Casio cautions against baths and exposure to soap or detergent, so a swimming rating should not be treated as shower approval. Check the case back and the manual for your model before exposing it to water.
Check the BAR marking on your exact watch
“Edifice chronograph” names a family, not a single water-resistance rating. Find the marking on the case back, then check the Casio guide for the watch’s module. Casio’s official operating precautions give these examples of daily use for watches marked WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT on the back:

Why showering is different
Casio advises against wearing the watch in a bath, heated swimming pool, sauna, or high-temperature, high-humidity environment. Its guidance also warns against exposure to soap or detergent, including during washing tasks, because it can reduce water resistance and may cause the glass to fog. The manual does not separately approve showering; since showers commonly involve soap, removing the watch is the cautious choice even if its rating permits swimming.
#1 Best Overall
- Silver-tone watch featuring left-handed crown and black dial with 1/20-second chronograph function, slide-rotating inner bezel, and date window
- 45.5 mm stainless steel case with mineral dial window
- Quartz movement with analog display
- Stainless steel band featuring fold-over push-button clasp with safety
- Water resistant to 100 m (330 ft): In general, suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not scuba diving
Use these precautions around water
- Do not operate the crown or buttons while the watch is wet or submerged.
- After seawater exposure, rinse off salt and dirt with plain water.
- Leather bands should not be directly exposed to water, according to Casio’s guidance.
- If fogging clears relatively quickly after a temperature change, Casio says that alone does not necessarily indicate a problem. If fogging persists or moisture is visible inside the glass, stop using the watch and contact the retailer or an authorized Casio service center.
Keep the seals in serviceable condition
Casio recommends replacing gaskets periodically, approximately every two or three years, to help maintain water resistance. It says water resistance is inspected by a trained technician during battery replacement and recommends having that work done by the original retailer or an authorized Casio service center. A rating on the case back cannot establish the current condition of an older or unserviced watch.
One model example is not a family-wide rating
Casio lists the EFB-730D-2BV as water resistant up to 10 bar. That specification applies to this model only; do not infer the rating of another Edifice chronograph from its family name or appearance.
